I am delighted to welcome you to Bangor-on-Dee for our Summer Saturday, our last fixture of the 2022/23 season.

Today we have seven brilliant races on the card. The first will begin the day’s excitement at 1:40pm with The tote.co.uk bet £5 get £20 ‘National Hunt’ Maiden Hurdle Race. At 3.25pm we have the most valuable race of the day, The Bangor-on-Dee Handicap Steeple Chase with a total prize fund of £20,000 The day draws to a close at 5:10pm with The Stella Artois Mares’ Open National Hunt Flat Race.

EACH WAY

A bookmaker taking each way bets will display the terms on which he/she accepts such bets on the top of his/her board. This is a bet for your selection to win or be placed.

STANDARD TERMS FOR EACH WAY BETTING

In conjunction with The RCA, the bookmakers have introduced standard each-way terms. Bookmakers will provide these terms, or better, when offering each-way betting.

· Fewer than 5 runners – all to win

5-7 runners – 1/4 odds a place 1-2

· 8 or more runners – 1/5 odds a place 1-2-3

Handicaps with 12-15 runners – 1/4 odds a place 1-2-3

· Handicaps with 16 or more runners – 1/4 odds a place 1-2-3-4

AWAY BETTING

Many bookmakers will also take bets at the other race meetings today. They offer a comprehensive service, including bets settled TAX FREE at Starting Price (S.P.)

BETTING WITHOUT THE FAVOURITE

At reduced odds you can back a horse and collect if it wins or runs second to the horse nominated by the bookmaker as favourite.

PLACING YOUR BET

Shop around for the best odds against your selection. When you have decided on where to place your bet, state the number of your chosen horse and the stake, for example “number 4, £2 win”. Listen to the bookmaker repeat the number of the horse and the stake to his/her clerk and hand your stake to the bookmaker You will then be given an itemised receipt that gives details of the bet and shows potential winnings. You should keep this ticket safe.

COLLECTING YOUR WINNINGS

If your selection wins (or, in the case of a place bet, is placed), hand the ticket back to the bookmaker for settlement. NEVER destroy your ticket until after the “Weighed In” announcement has been made. There may still be a Stewards’ Enquiry and the first past the post, or placed horses, may be disqualified. On rare occasions even the horse coming fourth has been awarded the race You may bet with confidence with any bookmaker as they have all been approved by the Administration of Gambling on Tracks Ltd, which administers the betting rings at each of Britain’s 60 racecourses. The AGT also offers a full late pay service, in case a bookmaker leaves the course before you have collected your winnings.

OFFICIAL BHA RATINGS

The BHA Handicappers allot ratings to horses once they have taken part in a sufficient number of races to enable the Handicappers to make a numerical assessment of each horse’s ability

The principal purpose of the ratings is to determine the weight to be carried by each runner in handicap races, with the Handicappers aiming to provide each participant with an equal chance based on its best recent form under its optimum conditions. A horse rated 100, for example, would be set to carry 1lb more than a horse rated 99 (ignoring any penalties or allowances).

The ratings published in the racecard for handicap races are the ratings that were used to calculate the weight to be carried by each horse, whilst in non-handicaps races the rating shown is that of each runner at the time that the entries for the race were confirmed. Any subsequently published change to a rating, either up or down, is shown in brackets following the rating.

Trainer Alan King boasts a 26 percent strike-rate (10-38) at Bangor-on-Dee in the last five seasons and today the Wiltshire handler saddles two chances with Heart Of A Lion in the 2:50 and Pumpkin’s Pride in the 4:35.

POTTLERATH arrives having notched up back-to-back victories at Worcester and Warwick last month. His rivals have a bit to prove at present, none more so than Inishbiggle, who is yet to complete from his two starts over fences, so Matt Shepherd’s gelding looks worth siding with once again from a 3lb raised mark. Twice-placed in points, Dragon Rock ought to possess the ability required to have a say on his fencing bow

Donald McCain accounts for a third of the field, of which Trick Of The Tail, who Brian Hughes would seem to prefer, might be his leading hope. On Cloud Nine finished third, albeit well beaten, on her first start following wind surgery, though she could take another step forward today Preference, however, is for MASTER PLAYER. He has shown a fair level of ability in Irish bumpers and it would come as no surprise were he to improve over timber.

DO NO WRONG lived up to his namesake when readily accounting for nine rivals at Cartmel a fortnight ago and Justin Landy’s unexposed chaser is fancied to repeat the dose from a 4lb higher mark. Junior Massini has taken well to fences and he should mount another stern challenge in a bid to follow up on his recent Warwick success, while Everyday Champagne, second on each of his last three starts, heads the remainder

HIDALGO DE L’ISLE scored over course and distance three weeks ago and the six-year-old remains the one to beat, despite a 5lb rise in the ratings. Glorious Zoff also returned to winning ways on his most recent start and he could prove to be the main threat to the selection off just 2lb higher. A case can be made for all of the remainder but Lakefield Flyer is the pick of them.

HEARTBREAK KID bounced back to form with an impressive victory over this track and trip last month and he may well be able to defy a 5lb rise in the ratings here. Norley was a well-held third on that occasion but he had been progressive prior to that defeat and should not be underestimated. Yggdrasil may benefit from the application of first-time blinkers and is another to consider

WIN: HEARTBREAK KID

BALRANALD won a similar event over C&D last month when benefiting from a drop back in trip and he looks a key player off just 4lb higher A wind operation appears to have brought about some improvement and it would be no surprise to see him back that performance up. Armattiekan, who was second in that aforementioned race, has a feasible chance of turning the form around off 5lb better terms, while En Avant appeals most from the rest.

ROSE IN THE PARK, who swapped hands for 70,000 pounds after she won an Irish point-topoint in March, looks a highly appealing newcomer to racing under Rules and is fancied to make a winning start for her new connections. She is a half-sister to Blow By Blow, who was a Grade 1 winner in this sphere before making into a useful hurdler, so ticks the right boxes on pedigree. Madam Ryder and Maggie O are others to monitor in the betting.

Race Summary:

Having established himself in better company than this last year, it hasn’t been plain sailing for RAASEL of late. That said, there were clear excuses in the Temple Stakes here a fortnight ago so he’s worth chancing at this level. Equilateral was second in that aforementioned race over C&D and he has to be feared, with Regional well worth his place in this company.

BETTING RING MANAGER

The Betting Ring Managers Inspection Pitch is located in the Tattersalls Enclosure, (please see racecourse map). He will be available in each enclosure to assist in any betting dispute.

GENERAL

All badges, car park labels and hospitality packages are sold subject to these terms and conditions.

FORCE MAJEURE

1 The company shall not be liable to the racegoer for any failure or omission or breach caused by an event or events beyond the control of the company such as but not limited to war, civil disturbance, order of a Government Ministry or department or public authority, fire, flood, natural catastrophe, royal demise, labour dispute, lock-out, withdrawal of labour or breakdown or interruption of services or transport (public or otherwise) or death or illness of a key person.

1.1 Upon the happening of such an event the obligations of the company and any period of time then running shall be suspended for the period of the event plus such time as may be required to resume normality.

1.2 Such an event shall not entitle the racegoer to take any steps against the company for breach or to terminate the agreement or otherwise

PRIOR TO THE COMMENCEMENT OF THE RACEMEETING

2 Where badges, car park labels or hospitality packages are sold for a specified area of the Racecourse, the Company will use its best endeavours to ensure that the specified area is available for use at the specified time If however the specified area cannot be used, for reasons not within the control of the Company, then the Company shall be entitled to offer a reasonable alternative. If no alternative is offered by the Company the customer will be entitled to a full refund of all monies received from him or her by the Company.

3 Refunds, other than those covered by clause 2 immediately above will not be considered unless badges/labels are returned to the racecourse, not less than 7 days prior to the race meeting and successfully resold. All refunds will be subject to an administration charge of 15% of the total refund.

ONCE THE RACE MEETING HAS COMMENCED

4 The climbing of fences, stands or any other buildings is forbidden.

5 Any person failing to comply with instructions from a steward or police officer may be ejected from the Racecourse.

6 Please observe the designated no drinking areas. Alcoholic beverages must not be carried to or consumed in these areas.

7 Amateur photography is accepted but only without flash equipment.

8 Portable telephones may not be used anywhere on the Racecourse for betting purposes. Flags, banners and other articles and any behaviour such as drunkenness, abusive conduct, singing or shouting which may constitute an annoyance to spectators or distract or frighten the horses are prohibited.

9 Transfers between enclosures may be possible on the day, subject to availability.

10 Parking or setting down on the site is prohibited, other than at the official car parks.

11 Lost or stolen badges will not be replaced.

12 Hospitality badges are sold on the understanding that no money in respect of unused badges will be reimbursed.

13 Subject to the provisions of clause 1 which shall prevail over this clause, in the event of abandonment before racing, or up to the “Weighed-In” of the first race there will be a full refund of badge and car parking costs. In the event of abandonment after the “Weighed-In” of the first race up to the “Weighed-In” of the third race or nominated feature race, whichever is later there will be a 50% refund of badge and car parking costs. In the event of abandonment thereafter there will be no refunds. No cash refunds to be paid on the day. All refunds to be administered after the meeting by post.

Where any customer is entitled (pursuant to clause 13) to any refund, in order to qualify for such refund the customer must follow the procedure listed opposite:

13.1 Make a note of the reference numbers of all badges and car park labels (these numbers will be found on the front of each badge or label).
