15. Aguide to the horse’s recentform and star rating. Each horse has been given a star rating, these are defined below:
HHHHH Selected to win the race
HHHHI Good chance of being placed.
HHHII By no means out of the reckoning but at least one or two hold stronger claims
HHIII Unlikely to win but not totally without hope.
HIIII Can be given little or no chance.
16. Jockey’s Name. If there is a number next to the name, this indicates that the jockey can claim that amount in weight (lbs) off the stated riding weight
The BHA Handicappers allot ratings to horses once they have taken part in a sufficient number of races to enable the Handicappers to make a numerical assessment of each horse’s ability
The principal purpose of the ratings is to determine the weight to be carried by each runner in handicap races, with the Handicappers aiming to provide each participant with an equal chance based on its best recent form under its optimum conditions. A horse rated 100, for example, would be set to carry 1lb more than a horse rated 99 (ignoring any penalties or allowances).
The ratings published in the racecard for handicap races are the ratings that were used to calculate the weight to be carried by each horse, whilst in non-handicaps races the rating shown is that of each runner at the time that the entries for the race were confirmed. Any subsequently published change to a rating, either up or down, is shown in brackets following the rating.

EACH WAY
A bookmaker taking each way bets will display the terms on which he/she accepts such bets on the top of his/her board. This is a bet for your selection to win or be placed.
In conjunction with The RCA, the bookmakers have introduced standard each-way terms. Bookmakers will provide these terms, or better, when offering each-way betting.
· Fewer than 5 runners – all to win
5-7 runners – 1/4 odds a place 1-2
· 8 or more runners – 1/5 odds a place 1-2-3
Handicaps with 12-15 runners – 1/4 odds a place 1-2-3
· Handicaps with 16 or more runners – 1/4 odds a place 1-2-3-4
Many bookmakers will also take bets at the other race meetings today. They offer a comprehensive service, including bets settled TAX FREE at Starting Price (S.P.)
At reduced odds you can back a horse and collect if it wins or runs second to the horse nominated by the bookmaker as favourite.
Shop around for the best odds against your selection. When you have decided on where to place your bet, state the number of your chosen horse and the stake, for example “number 4, £2 win”. Listen to the bookmaker repeat the number of the horse and the stake to his/her clerk and hand your stake to the bookmaker You will then be given an itemised receipt that gives details of the bet and shows potential winnings. You should keep this ticket safe.
If your selection wins (or, in the case of a place bet, is placed), hand the ticket back to the bookmaker for settlement. NEVER destroy your ticket until after the “Weighed In” announcement has been made. There may still be a Stewards’ Enquiry and the first past the post, or placed horses, may be disqualified. On rare occasions even the horse coming fourth has been awarded the race You may bet with confidence with any bookmaker as they have all been approved by the Administration of Gambling on Tracks Ltd, which administers the betting rings at each of Britain’s 60 racecourses. The AGT also offers a full late pay service, in case a bookmaker leaves the course before you have collected your winnings.
Late pay claims should be sent to AGT, 3A Kings Hall,Parsons Green, St Ives, Cambridgeshire PE27 4WY.
Tel: 01480 499180
In the unlikely event that no independent bookmaker turns up to service either end of the racecourse (Bangor and Overton car parks), Bangor Sport will be able to service all betting requirements. Bangor Sport will offer to either ‘take the price’ or use the SP as a means of settling any bet. We will endeavour to show all races (including all those from away courses) on screens at either end of the course. If you have any queries, please ask a member of staff for help.
A left-handed track of approximately one mile three furlongs in circumference. There are nine relatively easy fences per circuit and a run-in of 325 yards. Three tight turns make the course somewhat sharp in nature

Alan King is operating at a 29% strike-rate (5-17) with his chasers at Bangor over the past five seasons and today the Wiltshire handler saddles Madiba Passion in the Weatherbys nhstallions.co.uk Handicap Chase at 1:40.
A competitive novice hurdle, where slight preference is for STORMINHOME, who wasn’t beaten far at Ffos Las last time out and is bred to appreciate the step up in trip, being a point-to-point winner. His experienced stablemate Sporting Mike can give him the most to think about, especially with Beau Morgan taking 7lb off, while Pougne Aminta got off the mark in fine style at Wetherby last month and commands plenty of respect
WIN: STORMINHOME
DANGER: SPORTING MIKE
GANDHI MAKER has been a revelation in this sphere since the turn of the year and he still looked to be holding every chance at Carlisle when coming to grief. A return to better ground is likely to benefit him further and the seven-year-old is preferred to recent C&D winner Blueberry Wine, who stepped forward from his return at Leicester, and course specialist Feel The Pinch, who scored here over hurdles on his penultimate effort.
WIN: GANDHI MAKER
DANGER: BLUEBERRY WINE
VANDEMERE has shown more than enough in his two starts under Rules to suggest that a mark of 107 is manageable on his handicap debut. The form of his stable is another plus and he may have have too much for recent Market Rasen winner Ghasham and Thankyourluckystar, who has strong claims on his penultimate success at Ludlow. Completing the shortlist are the likes of Hidor De Bersy, Iceman Dennis and Jipekaa Machin.
WIN: VANDERMERE
DANGER: GHASHAM
LE TUEUR has been a model of consistency since moving to Sarah Humphrey this season, having won a couple of times last month. This stout stayer will be suited by a strong pace and still appears to be on a decent mark, with Jay Tidball claiming a handy 7lb allowance. Although Storm Tiger is yet to get off the mark under Rules, he has gone close a few times recently and is likely to be thereabouts. On The Platform has shown a clear liking for this track in the past and is another worthy of consideration.
WIN: LE TUEUR
DANGER: STORM TIGER
NOTHINGTOCHANCE got off the mark in impressive style at Fakenham last month and has been allocated an opening mark of 109. That may underestimate her ability, being a full-sister to Edwardstone, and she is taken to concede weight all round and make it two on the spin. Zucayan hasn’t been seen for just under a year but is capable of entering calculations, while Spirit Of Regulus was last seen going down narrowly at Doncaster in February conceding 7lb all-round and has had wind surgery since.
DANGER: ZUCAYAN RA CE 5
WIN: NOTHINGTOCHANCE
A 6lb rise may not be enough to stop BLUE HAWAII following up last month’s easy win at Sedgefield. The step up in trip appeared to do the trick on that occasion and everything points to another big performance from the daughter of Jeremy The Ben Pauling-trained On Springs is another last-time-out winner, having won at Doncaster in February, and is sure to be suited by these drying conditions, while others to consider include Yggdrasil and Taste The Fear
DANGER: ON SPRINGS RA CE 6
WIN: BLUE HAWAII
As one of only a couple with previous experience of racing in a bumper, Josh The Boss is a good starting point, even though he was a surprise winner of a similar contest at Kempton last month. A 7lb penalty does him no favours, however, and MRS TABITHA, a half-sister to the high-class hurdler/chaser Presenting Percy, may represent better value granted her sex allowance on debut for an in-form yard. Atlantic View and Golden Identity are other newcomers to note.
WIN: MRS TABITHA
DANGER: JOSH THE BOSS
The third-place finish in a Listed bumper at Cheltenham registered by DANCING IN BRAZIL on his penultimate start sets a high standard and he is taken to bounce back from a disappointing effort when he attempted to back it up at Kempton in February. Alan King’s gelding was hampered when winding up with his effort that day and a smoother passage should see him in a better light Push The Button and Bingo Little look the pick of the remainder
WIN: DANCING IN BRAZIL
DANGER: PUSH THE BUTTON

10 horses have been declared for the second race on today’s eight-race card, with four of them being previous course-and-distance winners.
Feel The Pinch has run just twice for Robbie Llewellyn and was successful in a hurdle race here for the rookie trainer a month ago, before finishing third in a handicap chase at Stratford. Formerly trained by Fergal O’Brien, he won a handicap chase on heavy ground over today’s course-and-distance and the nine-year-old has won three times – from four runs – in total at this track. Versatile in terms of ground, he clearly enjoys the air here in North Wales.
Further down the weights, both Twotwothree and Est Illic are another pair of course-and-distance winners, who haven’t been in the best of form of late, whilst the Donald McCain-trained Blueberry Wine won over this course-anddistance on his most recent start. The ground shouldn’t be too dissimilar either, so the seven-year-old could go well again, having been put up just 4lbs by the handicapper
The time before, Blueberry Wine was beaten by Sabbathical at Leicester and Evan Williams’ eight-year-old has dropped to a mark of 103, which is just 1lb higher than that winning mark at Leicester. Reverting to better ground should definitely help Adam Wedge’s mount.
Dorset-based trainer Anthony Honeyball doesn’t saddle too many runners at this track, but (hopefully) he sends up the hat-trick seeking Gabriel’s Getaway for this race and the six-year-old is unbeaten in two starts over fences to date. An easy winner at Taunton off a mark of 89, the runner-up has won twice since to give the form a solid look and he duly followed up at Lingfield, where he defied an 11lbs rise. He swooped late on that occasion to beat Madiba Passion by 1¾ lengths and with conditions quite similar (provided that the course doesn’t get too much rain before post time), it could well be that the improving youngster is able to maintain his unbeaten record over fences.
The runner-up has a 4lbs pull at the weights, so is entitled to close the gap, but Gabriel’s Getaway does appear to be a young chaser on a sharp upward curve and is certainly the horse with the most potential in the field. He has, however, also been declared to run at Exeter on Friday evening and if taking up that engagement, will almost certainly be a notable absentee from this event.
The weights are headed by Alastair Ralph’s Chanceux who finished in front of Feel The Pinch at Stratford earlier this month, when beaten a length on just his fourth chase start and reverting to better ground should help.
Glebe Road, who races from the foot of the weights, and Gandhi Maker complete the field and the last-named remains of some interest. In eight chase starts to date, he has only been sent off at odds greater than 4-1 on one occasion and he was still in contention when falling at Carlisle last time Having shifted left at times, reverting to a left-handed track should suit and he is another who ought to appreciate better ground. His chance, along with all of the other runners’ prospects, will be greatly increased if Gabriel’s Getaway does indeed run at Exeter rather than here.
