Welcome to the Spring Meeting at Bangor-on-Dee Racecourse. Our first Saturday meeting of the year and a pleasant sign that warm Spring days are ahead.

Today we have seven exciting races on the card. Our first race is The Irish Thoroughbred Marketing Gateway to Quality Maiden Hurdle Race at 1.23pm. Our fourth race is our highest value race of the day – The Broughton Hall Estates Handicap Hurdle, with a prize of £20,000 which sees Grand National entrant Minella Trump having a final prep run before Aintree. Finally, the day’s racing will close at 4.53pm with the Thank You to Bangor-on-Dee Grounds Team Hurdle Race, named in recognition of the incredible grounds team here at Bangor-on-Dee.

OFFICIAL BHA RATINGS

The BHA Handicappers allot ratings to horses once they have taken part in a sufficient number of races to enable the Handicappers to make a numerical assessment of each horse’s ability

The principal purpose of the ratings is to determine the weight to be carried by each runner in handicap races, with the Handicappers aiming to provide each participant with an equal chance based on its best recent form under its optimum conditions. A horse rated 100, for example, would be set to carry 1lb more than a horse rated 99 (ignoring any penalties or allowances).

The ratings published in the racecard for handicap races are the ratings that were used to calculate the weight to be carried by each horse, whilst in non-handicaps races the rating shown is that of each runner at the time that the entries for the race were confirmed. Any subsequently published change to a rating, either up or down, is shown in brackets following the rating.

A bookmaker taking each way bets will display the terms on which he/she accepts such bets on the top of his/her board. This is a bet for your selection to win or be placed.

In conjunction with The RCA, the bookmakers have introduced standard each-way terms. Bookmakers will provide these terms, or better, when offering each-way betting.

· Fewer than 5 runners – all to win

5-7 runners – 1/4 odds a place 1-2

· 8 or more runners – 1/5 odds a place 1-2-3

Handicaps with 12-15 runners – 1/4 odds a place 1-2-3

· Handicaps with 16 or more runners – 1/4 odds a place 1-2-3-4

AWAY BETTING

Many bookmakers will also take bets at the other race meetings today. They offer a comprehensive service, including bets settled TAX FREE at Starting Price (S.P.)

BETTING WITHOUT THE FAVOURITE

At reduced odds you can back a horse and collect if it wins or runs second to the horse nominated by the bookmaker as favourite.

PLACING YOUR BET

Shop around for the best odds against your selection. When you have decided on where to place your bet, state the number of your chosen horse and the stake, for example “number 4, £2 win”. Listen to the bookmaker repeat the number of the horse and the stake to his/her clerk and hand your stake to the bookmaker You will then be given an itemised receipt that gives details of the bet and shows potential winnings. You should keep this ticket safe.

COLLECTING YOUR WINNINGS

If your selection wins (or, in the case of a place bet, is placed), hand the ticket back to the bookmaker for settlement. NEVER destroy your ticket until after the “Weighed In” announcement has been made. There may still be a Stewards’ Enquiry and the first past the post, or placed horses, may be disqualified. On rare occasions even the horse coming fourth has been awarded the race You may bet with confidence with any bookmaker as they have all been approved by the Administration of Gambling on Tracks Ltd, which administers the betting rings at each of Britain’s 60 racecourses. The AGT also offers a full late pay service, in case a bookmaker leaves the course before you have collected your winnings.

In the unlikely event that no independent bookmaker turns up to service either end of the racecourse (Bangor and Overton car parks), Bangor Sport will be able to service all betting requirements. Bangor Sport will offer to either ‘take the price’ or use the SP as a means of settling any bet. Feel The Pinch won the Thank You To Bangor-On-Dee Groundstaff Team Handicap Hurdle (4.53) 12 months ago and although he returns on the back of a fall here, he was bang in contention and can gain compensation on his first start for Robbie Llewellyn.

ED KEEPER sets a decent standard on the evidence of his two runs to date, having found some improvement from his Ffos Las debut when finishing second at Chepstow in January The form has worked out, with the winner scoring again under a penalty and the third also getting off the mark in this sphere, so the Sam Thomas-trained five-year-old appears to have been found a nice opportunity Si Elegant has to enter calculations, along with Present Fair

WALK IN THE STORM filled the runner-up spot on her handicap bow over 2m4f at Ffos Las earlier in the month and the manner of that performance suggested that Ian Williams’ mare would benefit from this step up in trip. William Ewart returned from a wind operation on the same card and is capable of improving, while others to note include Invincible De Mee and Hunsbury

TWOTWOTHREE took a step forward on his latest outing when runner-up at Doncaster after a wind operation and the drop back in trip is unlikely to stop him from going one better Heritier is only 2lb higher than for his last win, which came at Market Rasen in November, and he has to be considered, despite a below-par effort at Plumpton when last seen. Muse Of Fire and Cenotice appeal most of the remainder.

Minella Trump returns to timber following a prolific campaign over fences, but he has been off since June and it could be worth taking a chance on EL MUCHACHO. The Milton Harris-trained six-year-old struggled in the Morebattle at Kelso earlier this month and is worth another chance up in trip. Carlisle winner Tanganyika is feared most, while the consistent Thereisnodoubt adds further spice to the mix.

This can go the way of the hat-trick seeking ROCK HURLEY, who makes his handicap debut following an eyecatching success in France just after Christmas. Now switched to Donald McCain after being bought for 125,000 euros, he could be capable of defying the welter burden of 12 stone. Foster’sisland can give the selection most to think about, while Tap Tap Boom is another to bear in mind.

METHODTOTHEMADNESS arrives here on the back of two victories at Musselburgh last month and a 2lb rise for the most recent of those wins may not be enough to stop her from making it a hat-trick. Feuille De Lune showed some promise when third at Huntingdon and she edges out Penny Mallow and Emmpressive Lady to be the pick of the remaining field.

KINGS JUSTICE was not disgraced when fifth at Doncaster a month ago and a reproduction of that level of form here would give him a big chance off a 2lb lower mark. Scherbobalob put in a career best over hurdles at Ludlow last time and merits consideration on his handicap debut. Ballabawn often makes the frame and is likely to be in the mix again, while Feel The Pinch is another to note.

BETTING RING MANAGER

The Betting Ring Managers Inspection Pitch is located in the Tattersalls Enclosure, (please see racecourse map). He will be available in each enclosure to assist in any betting dispute.

GENERAL

All badges, car park labels and hospitality packages are sold subject to these terms and conditions.

FORCE MAJEURE

1 The company shall not be liable to the racegoer for any failure or omission or breach caused by an event or events beyond the control of the company such as but not limited to war, civil disturbance, order of a Government Ministry or department or public authority, fire, flood, natural catastrophe, royal demise, labour dispute, lock-out, withdrawal of labour or breakdown or interruption of services or transport (public or otherwise) or death or illness of a key person.

1.1 Upon the happening of such an event the obligations of the company and any period of time then running shall be suspended for the period of the event plus such time as may be required to resume normality.

1.2 Such an event shall not entitle the racegoer to take any steps against the company for breach or to terminate the agreement or otherwise

PRIOR TO THE COMMENCEMENT OF THE RACEMEETING

2 Where badges, car park labels or hospitality packages are sold for a specified area of the Racecourse, the Company will use its best endeavours to ensure that the specified area is available for use at the specified time If however the specified area cannot be used, for reasons not within the control of the Company, then the Company shall be entitled to offer a reasonable alternative. If no alternative is offered by the Company the customer will be entitled to a full refund of all monies received from him or her by the Company.

3 Refunds, other than those covered by clause 2 immediately above will not be considered unless badges/labels are returned to the racecourse, not less than 7 days prior to the race meeting and successfully resold. All refunds will be subject to an administration charge of 15% of the total refund.

ONCE THE RACE MEETING HAS COMMENCED

4 The climbing of fences, stands or any other buildings is forbidden.

5 Any person failing to comply with instructions from a steward or police officer may be ejected from the Racecourse.

6 Please observe the designated no drinking areas. Alcoholic beverages must not be carried to or consumed in these areas.

7 Amateur photography is accepted but only without flash equipment.

8 Portable telephones may not be used anywhere on the Racecourse for betting purposes. Flags, banners and other articles and any behaviour such as drunkenness, abusive conduct, singing or shouting which may constitute an annoyance to spectators or distract or frighten the horses are prohibited.

9 Transfers between enclosures may be possible on the day, subject to availability.

10 Parking or setting down on the site is prohibited, other than at the official car parks.

11 Lost or stolen badges will not be replaced.

12 Hospitality badges are sold on the understanding that no money in respect of unused badges will be reimbursed.

13 Subject to the provisions of clause 1 which shall prevail over this clause, in the event of abandonment before racing, or up to the “Weighed-In” of the first race there will be a full refund of badge and car parking costs. In the event of abandonment after the “Weighed-In” of the first race up to the “Weighed-In” of the third race or nominated feature race, whichever is later there will be a 50% refund of badge and car parking costs. In the event of abandonment thereafter there will be no refunds. No cash refunds to be paid on the day. All refunds to be administered after the meeting by post.

Where any customer is entitled (pursuant to clause 13) to any refund, in order to qualify for such refund the customer must follow the procedure listed opposite:

13.1 Make a note of the reference numbers of all badges and car park labels (these numbers will be found on the front of each badge or label).

13.2 Send the badges, and/or labels along with a covering letter stating the full name and address of the sender and, if different from that of sender, the full name and address of the purchaser of the badges or labels to: Refund Office, Chester Race Company Limited, The Racecourse, Chester, CH1 2LY. To be valid, requests for refunds must be received in writing within one month of the abandoned raceday. The Company shall have no responsibility or liability of any nature in respect of any refund request received after that time

14 All persons visiting the Racecourse are admitted subject to these Regulations and to the Rules of Racing. The Management reserves the right to refuse admission to/or to remove from the Racecourse, in its absolute discretion and without giving any reasons, any person failing to comply with such Rules and Regulations or whose presence is, in its absolute discretion, a source of danger or annoyance and shall have no obligation to give any reason therefore.

15 The Company shall in no circumstances be liable for any loss, damage, cost or expense or any consequential or indirect loss or damage of any kind.

16 The Horserace Betting Levy Board prize fund schemes provide for the estimated inclusion of £ 119,261 in rate card and incremental prize money at this racecourse from January to April 2023.

We employ professionally trained and experienced stewards who are located predominantly around the course and are identifiable by their uniform.

In the event of a situation that requires partial or full evacuation of the stands or racecourse, announcements will be broadcast and stewards will undertake the responsibility of ushering you to a place of safety; it is essential that you follow their instructions. Please take your immediate belongings with you and proceed out of the area quickly and calmly with the guidance of the stewards.

The above is precautionary only and we trust that the procedures will never be required. However, in the event of an emergency, remember:
