Paul Nicholls boasts an excellent 30% strike-rate (+£22.42 level stakes profit) with his chase runners at this venue and Secret Investor is his sole runner on today’s card in the opening 1.20 contest

SECRET INVESTOR is entitled to improve for his return off a long break at Chepstow in December and, given he saw off the exceptional Clan Des Obeaux in the Denman Chase in February 2021, he demands respect in this contest. Mister Whitaker makes his return to action after 308 days off the track but is feared most, while Dieu Vivant also merits consideration for a reputable stable.

WIN: SECRET INVESTOR

DANGER: MISTER WHITAKER

2022 Welsh Champion Hurdle heroine Effernock Fizz switches back to fences following two runs on the Flat and over timber this year and should not be taken lightly, but a 4lb rise from her latest success at Newcastle looks unlikely to stop MIAH GRACE following up in this contest. Fable disappointed last time but can’t be dismissed representing powerful connections.

WIN: MIAH GRACE

DANGER: EFFERNOCK FIZZ

There has been no stopping The Questioner in recent contests and the hat-trick seeking son of Ask has to enter calculations, despite a 6lb rise for his latest success at Doncaster, but it could pay to take a chance on GLITTERING LOVE. Only narrowly denied on his most recent outing over 3m2f at Kelso, he could improve for a stiffer stamina test and make his presence felt Eclair De Guye is another worthy of consideration.

WIN: GLITTERING LOVE

DANGER: THE QUESTIONER

GWENNIE MAY BOY wasn’t disgraced when finishing runner-up to a smart recruit in Grain d’Oudairies over C&D in November and he could prove tough to beat off this opening mark. Hidalgo De L’isle could also have more to offer in this sphere and may pose the chief threat if proving as effective on this drop to an extended 2m from 2m4f. Rewired is another to note on this quick turnout, after placing second on Saturday at Musselburgh.

WIN: GWENNIE MAY BOY

DANGER: HIDAGO DE L’ISLE

CRAMBO is clearly highly thought of having contested the Grade 1 Challow Hurdle at Newbury on New Year’s Eve and a subsequent wind procedure may see the six-year-old return to winning ways in this lesser event Waspy makes his hurdling bow after finishing third on his Rules debut in a bumper at Wetherby and this point-to-point winner may improve. Kankin is another to note.

WIN: CRAMBO

DANGER: WASPY

The step up in trip can work the oracle for BASFORD having been runner-up over shorter at Sedgefield the last twice. Conditions look to be in his favour and he can see off the likes of comfortable Ayr winner Horacio Apple’s and the unexposed Ramo, who is of interest on his first go at this distance off what looks a workable mark.

WIN: BASFORD

DANGER: HORACIO APPLE’S

Now that the penny has dropped for WELL VICKY, who won readily at Hereford last time, there should be plenty more to come from the daughter of Well Chosen. Spitfire Girl never went a yard on heavy ground at Ffos Las and she is much better judged on her narrow defeat at Uttoxeter in December, while Drash On Ruby looked to have benefitted from wind surgery when third on her most recent outing.

WIN: WELL VICKY

DANGER: SPITFIRE GIRL
