HOW TO BET WITH A RACECOURSE BOOKMAKER
WAYS TO BET
STRAIGHT EACH WAY
Win only A bookmaker taking each way bets will display the terms on which he/she accepts such bets on the top of his/her board. This is a bet for your selection to win or be placed.
STANDARD TERMS FOR EACH WAY BETTING
In conjunction with The RCA, the bookmakers have introduced standard each-way terms. Bookmakers will provide these terms, or better, when offering each-way betting.
· Fewer than 5 runners – all to win
5-7 runners 1/4 odds a place 1-2
· 8 or more runners – 1/5 odds a place 1-2-3
Handicaps with 12-15 runners 1/4 odds a place 1-2-3
· Handicaps with 16 or more runners 1/4 odds a place 1-2-3-4
AWAY BETTING
Many bookmakers will also take bets at the other race meetings today. They offer a comprehensive service, including bets settled TAX FREE at Starting Price (S.P.)
BETTING WITHOUT THE FAVOURITE
At reduced odds you can back a horse and collect if it wins or runs second to the horse nominated by the bookmaker as favourite.
PLACING YOUR BET
Shop around for the best odds against your selection. When you have decided on where to place your bet, state the number of your chosen horse and the stake, for example “number 4, £2 win”. Listen to the bookmaker repeat the number of the horse and the stake to his/her clerk and hand your stake to the bookmaker You will then be given an itemised receipt that gives details of the bet and shows potential winnings. You should keep this ticket safe.
COLLECTING YOUR WINNINGS
If your selection wins (or, in the case of a place bet, is placed), hand the ticket back to the bookmaker for settlement. NEVER destroy your ticket until after the “Weighed In” announcement has been made. There may still be a Stewards’ Enquiry and the first past the post, or placed horses, may be disqualified. On rare occasions even the horse coming fourth has been awarded the race You may bet with confidence with any bookmaker as they have all been approved by the Administration of Gambling on Tracks Ltd, which administers the betting rings at each of Britain’s 60 racecourses. The AGT also offers a full late pay service, in case a bookmaker leaves the course before you have collected your winnings.
Late pay claims should be sent to AGT, 3A Kings Hall,Parsons Green, St Ives, Cambridgeshire PE27 4WY.
Tel: 01480 499180
In the unlikely event that no independent bookmaker turns up to service either end of the racecourse (Bangor and Overton car parks), Bangor Sport will be able to service all betting requirements. Bangor Sport will offer to either ‘take the price’ or use the SP as a means of settling any bet. We will endeavour to show all races (including all those from away courses) on screens at either end of the course. If you have any queries, please ask a member of staff for help.

OFFICIAL BHA RATINGS
The BHA Handicappers allot ratings to horses once they have taken part in a sufficient number of races to enable the Handicappers to make a numerical assessment of each horse’s ability
The principal purpose of the ratings is to determine the weight to be carried by each runner in handicap races, with the Handicappers aiming to provide each participant with an equal chance based on its best recent form under its optimum conditions. A horse rated 100, for example, would be set to carry 1lb more than a horse rated 99 (ignoring any penalties or allowances).
The ratings published in the racecard for handicap races are the ratings that were used to calculate the weight to be carried by each horse, whilst in non-handicaps races the rating shown is that of each runner at the time that the entries for the race were confirmed. Any subsequently published change to a rating, either up or down, is shown in brackets following the rating.

Win Without Backing a Winner!
The Tote Placepot is often described as the UK’s most enjoyable racing pool bet, the first bet of the day and a renowned raceday ritual; you simply pick a horse to place in each of the first 6 races of a meeting.
With an average pay out of £474 to a £1 stake at Tote.co.uk in 2021 the Placepot is the ultimate bet for small stakes, big possibilities.
How to play the Placepot like a pro
Try perming your placepot
“Perming” your placepot simply means choosing more than one horse in each race. Whilst this increases your stake it also increases your chance of winning.
You only need one of them to make the places in each race to win the placepot, but you can also win multiple times in the same bet if you manage to get more than one placed in any of the races.
Are
Banker Legs
The attraction of the Placepot to most bettors is the “small stake, big win” possibility and they therefore want to keep the number of selections per race and total stake to a reasonable amount.
Picking just one horse in a race (leg) allows you to keep your total lines down and potentially use more selections in another more competitive leg. Look to find a race where there is a horse you simply can’t see finishing outside the places.
Target Vulnerable Favourites
On the other hand, leaving out vulnerable favourites is the key to unlocking the big dividends the Placepot has to offer. The more favourites fail to place, the bigger the dividend is going to be. This is because the biggest share of the money in each race will be riding on the favourite.
Where to play?
The best option is to play the Placepot with Tote, the home of the Placepot.
When playing directly at Tote.co.uk or via the app you will receive a 10% boost on your winnings thanks to Tote+.

OPERATION OVERLORD has already had two reported instances of wind surgery and they certainly looked to have had a positive impact on the gelding judged on his two efforts last season. His seasonal return was solid before he justified favouritism in good style at Ayr when he was last seen. He can pick up where he left off now making his debut over fences, while Longshanks and Kakamora both handle cut in the ground and look the pick of the opposition.
OVERLORD
KEPY BLANC was a wide-margin winner over C&D last month and the handicapper is justified in raising him 11lb for that performance. He’s open to improvement over fences and is hard to oppose. Master Malcolm is 2-6 in chases so far and arrives here on a hat-trick. He rates as the biggest threat if ready to go after a 230-day break, while Chess Player could also reach the frame.
WIN: KEPY BLANC
CE
DANGER: MASTER MALCOLM
These fences can be unforgiving and while Great D’Ange has looked good in his two completed starts in this sphere, he comes with the caveat of having fallen twice from four outings over the larger obstacles. Therefore, recent C&D winner METHODTOTHEMADNESS might be a safer option on this occasion. He jumped for fun here 27 days ago, creating the impression that a 7lb rise won’t be too much of an issue. Kayf Hernando and Animal complete the shortlist
WIN: METHODTOTHEMADNESS
CE
DANGER: GREAT D’ANGE
KEEP RUNNING caught the eye when bolting up over this course and distance on his return to action last month. He looks entitled to follow that up on his second stable start, but Gentle River built on his racecourse bow with a comfortable win in a bumper at this track last October and has claims if ready to roll off a break. Sergeant Wilson makes his hurdling debut and is another to consider
KEEP RUNNING DANGER: GENTLE RIVER
Robeam has paid a price for consistency lately and is now rated 11lb above his last winning mark, so preference is for the Henry Daly-trained LILY GLITTERS. She was last seen finishing a distant third over an extended 3m2f at Stratford in May and that was arguably a step too far for her given she was a previous winner over 3m. She remains open to improvement on her seasonal debut, while Prince Des Fichaux completes the shortlist
LILY GLITTERS
Herewegohoney secured a good win at Chepstow at the end of last season, but she has to shoulder top-weight for this contest Therefore, HILLFINCH shades the vote on her return to action. Stuart Edmunds’ charge finished a respectable third in a Listed bumper at Huntingdon last December and has shaped well over hurdles since, with the exception of her latest showing in March which could have been the result of a long season. Lime Drop is another to note.
HILLFINCH DANGER: HEREWEGOHONEY
TITANIUM BULLET shaped well when runner-up behind smart prospect Cape Vidal at Ffos Las on debut in May and, with improvement expected, the son of Shirocco gets the nod. Sam Thomas must always be respected in this sphere and any market confidence behind newcomer Lump Sum should be noted. Dj Pete was a creditable fourth on his racecourse debut at Southwell in April and that form has been boosted on a few occasions since.
TITANIUM BULLET
CUMHACHT has his first start for Rebecca Curtis having been narrowly denied at Thurles in March on debut There has been a few winners come out of that race since and he looks to hold solid credentials. Charlie Longsdon is often quick off the mark at this time of year and his Realisation, who was runner-up at Lisronagh in a point-to-point, looks dangerous. Peaky Boy was an expensive purchase at the Cheltenham Festival sale having won impressively between the flags in March.

THE ARTHUR SHONE MEMORIAL MARES’ HANDICAP HURDLE RACE
Arthur Shone was horse racing correspondent for The Wrexham Leader newspaper more than 30 years and sadly passed away in June 2021.
Arthur first penned a column for the Wrexham Leader in the late 1980s, and was their racing man ever after as well as serving as the public relations officer for the North West Area Point to Points, and was always to be seen regularly at North West racecourses, Aintree, Chester and Haydock. Brought up in Wrexham, Mr Shone also made regular contributions to Shropshire Star, Cheshire Life magazine and BBC Radio Wales and he wrote a book about Wrexham races which were run at Wrexham racecourse before the football club was established.
Arthur rarely missed a meeting at Bangor-on-Dee there had to be a very good reason. It has not been the same since he passed away not seeing him nipping in between the paddock and press room. He also wrote many articles on the history of Bangor-On-Dee races pieces that we still use today.
The photograph is of Arthur being presented with the magnum of champagne for winning the Expert Opinion Tipster competition at Bangor-on-Dee he won this numerous times, his main rival being Bob Williams who was the then racing correspondent for the Shropshire Star newspaper.

EVACUATION PROCEDURE
18 Bangor Racecourse has enhanced Safety & Security measures to ensure your safety, comfort and enjoyment of the day. However, an incident may occur which is beyond our control and it is important that you are aware of how we intend to look after you in the event of an emergency.
We employ professionally trained and experienced stewards who are located predominantly around the course and are identifiable by their uniform.
In the event of a situation that requires partial or full evacuation of the stands or racecourse, announcements will be broadcast and stewards will undertake the responsibility of ushering you to a place of safety; it is essential that you follow their instructions. Please take your immediate belongings with you and proceed out of the area quickly and calmly with the guidance of the stewards.
The above is precautionary only and we trust that the procedures will never be required. However, in the event of an emergency, remember:
• Take your belongings with you;
• Under the directions of the stewards, proceed quickly and calmly to the safe area.
