On today’s racecard we have seven races. The first, Jones Bros Conditional Jockeys’ Handicap Steeple Chase, will begin today’s events at 1:51pm. Later in the afternoon, we have the Educate Group Handicap Hurdle Race at 3:36pm. Finally, the days excitement will close with the Portal Construction Open Maiden National Hunt Flat Race at 5:16pm.

HOW TO BET WITH A RACECOURSE BOOKMAKER

WAYS TO BET

STRAIGHT EACH WAY

Win only

A bookmaker taking each way bets will display the terms on which he/she accepts such bets on the top of his/her board. This is a bet for your selection to win or be placed.

STANDARD TERMS FOR EACH WAY BETTING

In conjunction with The RCA, the bookmakers have introduced standard each-way terms. Bookmakers will provide these terms, or better, when offering each-way betting.

· Fewer than 5 runners – all to win

5-7 runners 1/4 odds a place 1-2

· 8 or more runners – 1/5 odds a place 1-2-3 Handicaps with 12-15 runners 1/4 odds a place 1-2-3

· Handicaps with 16 or more runners 1/4 odds a place 1-2-3-4

AWAY BETTING

Many bookmakers will also take bets at the other race meetings today. They offer a comprehensive service, including bets settled TAX FREE at Starting Price (S.P.)

BETTING WITHOUT THE FAVOURITE

At reduced odds you can back a horse and collect if it wins or runs second to the horse nominated by the bookmaker as favourite.

PLACING YOUR BET

Shop around for the best odds against your selection. When you have decided on where to place your bet, state the number of your chosen horse and the stake, for example “number 4, £2 win”. Listen to the bookmaker repeat the number of the horse and the stake to his/her clerk and hand your stake to the bookmaker You will then be given an itemised receipt that gives details of the bet and shows potential winnings. You should keep this ticket safe.

COLLECTING YOUR WINNINGS

If your selection wins (or, in the case of a place bet, is placed), hand the ticket back to the bookmaker for settlement. NEVER destroy your ticket until after the “Weighed In” announcement has been made. There may still be a Stewards’ Enquiry and the first past the post, or placed horses, may be disqualified. On rare occasions even the horse coming fourth has been awarded the race You may bet with confidence with any bookmaker as they have all been approved by the Administration of Gambling on Tracks Ltd, which administers the betting rings at each of Britain’s 60 racecourses. The AGT also offers a full late pay service, in case a bookmaker leaves the course before you have collected your winnings.

OFFICIAL BHA RATINGS

The BHA Handicappers allot ratings to horses once they have taken part in a sufficient number of races to enable the Handicappers to make a numerical assessment of each horse’s ability

The principal purpose of the ratings is to determine the weight to be carried by each runner in handicap races, with the Handicappers aiming to provide each participant with an equal chance based on its best recent form under its optimum conditions. A horse rated 100, for example, would be set to carry 1lb more than a horse rated 99 (ignoring any penalties or allowances).

The ratings published in the racecard for handicap races are the ratings that were used to calculate the weight to be carried by each horse, whilst in non-handicaps races the rating shown is that of each runner at the time that the entries for the race were confirmed. Any subsequently published change to a rating, either up or down, is shown in brackets following the rating.

A left-handed track of approximately one mile three furlongs in circumference. There are nine relatively easy fences per circuit and a run-in of 325 yards. Three tight turns make the course somewhat sharp in nature

Over the past five years, Nicky Henderson has a one-in-three strike-rate with hurdlers at Bangor.Go Chique is his only representative on today’s card so commands attention in the Educate Group Handicap Hurdle at 3.36.

The form of the race MIDNIGHT JEWEL landed at Fontwell has been franked, with the second winning since, and they pulled well clear of the rest so it’s unlikely a 5lb rise will prevent another bold showing from Charlie Longsdon’s gelding. Pens Man did it with a bit to spare when last seen at Southwell in July and he looks the biggest danger ahead of Obey The Rules, who is still yet to prove his stamina over this trip.

A few to consider here, but the Lucinda Russell team has been in excellent form and if transferring the ability she showed in three point-to-point runs, APPLE AWAY could be capable of making a winning start on her first run for the yard. Peerless Beauty can go well if bouncing back to form following a disappointing effort at Uttoxeter in May Famous Function, from the in-form Donald McCain yard, is another for the shortlist

Heritier is an interesting runner if freshened up by a break, but it’s difficult to look past GETAMAN following his victory at Kelso a fortnight ago, and it’s unlikely a 5lb rise will stop David Jeffreys’ charge going very well again. It will be a surprise if Kepy Blanc doesn’t end up better than a mark of 84 over fences and he’s another to consider with the likelihood of plenty more to come.

BLAKENEY POINT gets a confident vote after creating the impression that he’s back to something like his best with an easy win over C&D last month. Ted’s Friend previously finished well adrift of the selection when they met here back in July, but he’s much better off on these revised terms so rates as the best alternative. Madera Mist won a mares’ handicap chase at Cheltenham when she was last seen, while Go Chique runs for a powerful yard and also merits a betting check.

DANGER: TED’S FRIEND

Most of those with hurdling and bumper experience seem to be nothing out of the ordinary, so support for Flat recruits Thunder Flash and Tio Mio would be noteworthy However, KEEP RUNNING stands out on his French form and looks the safest option. Stroll On By and The Geordie Ginge are others likely to have been primed for the winter jumps campaign and are worth monitoring in the betting.

The patience shown in bringing GLENDRUID along seems to be paying dividends and he may well flourish now that more emphasis is put on his stamina. He did jump to the right on his chasing debut so the fitting of cheekpieces seems a logical move in keeping him focused. Still, he’s got more scope to improve over fences than the likes of Seemingly So and Steel Wave and is suggested as one to follow for the time being.

Both Mark The Man and TRICK OF THE TAIL dropped significant hints that they are capable of winning a race like this, despite displaying signs of greenness on their respective debuts. The latter looked a tad more straightforward when finishing third over C&D back in April and he is suggested as the safer option of the two at this stage. Point-to-point winner Catuaba is another who merits serious consideration now switched to the professional ranks.

The Betting Ring Managers Inspection Pitch is located in the Tattersalls Enclosure, (please see racecourse map). He will be available in each enclosure to assist in any betting dispute.

GENERAL

All badges, car park labels and hospitality packages are sold subject to these terms and conditions.

FORCE MAJEURE

1 The company shall not be liable to the racegoer for any failure or omission or breach caused by an event or events beyond the control of the company such as but not limited to war, civil disturbance, order of a Government Ministry or department or public authority, fire, flood, natural catastrophe, royal demise, labour dispute, lock-out, withdrawal of labour or breakdown or interruption of services or transport (public or otherwise) or death or illness of a key person.

1.1 Upon the happening of such an event the obligations of the company and any period of time then running shall be suspended for the period of the event plus such time as may be required to resume normality.

1.2 Such an event shall not entitle the racegoer to take any steps against the company for breach or to terminate the agreement or otherwise

PRIOR TO THE COMMENCEMENT OF THE RACEMEETING

2 Where badges, car park labels or hospitality packages are sold for a specified area of the Racecourse, the Company will use its best endeavours to ensure that the specified area is available for use at the specified time If however the specified area cannot be used, for reasons not within the control of the Company, then the Company shall be entitled to offer a reasonable alternative. If no alternative is offered by the Company the customer will be entitled to a full refund of all monies received from him or her by the Company.

3 Refunds, other than those covered by clause 2 immediately above will not be considered unless badges/labels are returned to the racecourse, not less than 7 days prior to the race meeting and successfully resold. All refunds will be subject to an administration charge of 15% of the total refund.

ONCE THE RACE MEETING HAS COMMENCED

4 The climbing of fences, stands or any other buildings is forbidden.

5 Any person failing to comply with instructions from a steward or police officer may be ejected from the Racecourse.

6 Please observe the designated no drinking areas. Alcoholic beverages must not be carried to or consumed in these areas.

Amateur photography is accepted but only without flash equipment.

8 Portable telephones may not be used anywhere on the Racecourse for betting purposes. Flags, banners and other articles and any behaviour such as drunkenness, abusive conduct, singing or shouting which may constitute an annoyance to spectators or distract or frighten the horses are prohibited.

9 Transfers between enclosures may be possible on the day, subject to availability.

10 Parking or setting down on the site is prohibited, other than at the official car parks.

11 Lost or stolen badges will not be replaced.

12 Hospitality badges are sold on the understanding that no money in respect of unused badges will be reimbursed.

13 Subject to the provisions of clause 1 which shall prevail over this clause, in the event of abandonment before racing, or up to the “Weighed-In” of the first race there will be a full refund of badge and car parking costs. In the event of abandonment after the “Weighed-In” of the first race up to the “Weighed-In” of the third race or nominated feature race, whichever is later there will be a 50% refund of badge and car parking costs. In the event of abandonment thereafter there will be no refunds. No cash refunds to be paid on the day. All refunds to be administered after the meeting by post. Where any customer is entitled (pursuant to clause 13) to any refund, in order to qualify for such refund the customer must follow the procedure listed opposite:

13.1 Make a note of the reference numbers of all badges and car park labels (these numbers will be found on the front of each badge or label).

To be valid, requests for refunds must be received in writing within one month of the abandoned raceday. The Company shall have no responsibility or liability of any nature in respect of any refund request received after that time.

14 All persons visiting the Racecourse are admitted subject to these Regulations and to the Rules of Racing. The Management reserves the right to refuse admission to/or to remove from the Racecourse, in its absolute discretion and without giving any reasons, any person failing to comply with such Rules and Regulations or whose presence is, in its absolute discretion, a source of danger or annoyance and shall have no obligation to give any reason therefore.

15 The Company shall in no circumstances be liable for any loss, damage, cost or expense or any consequential or indirect loss or damage of any kind.

Please take your immediate belongings with you and proceed out of the area quickly and calmly with the guidance of the stewards.
