A MESSAGE FROM THE CHAIRMAN TUESDAY 24 MAY 2022

Good Afternoon, Welcome to ‘The Spring Meeting’ here at Bangor-on-Dee Racecourse. The racecourse is now beginning to bask in the very best of the British spring weather and what better way to enjoy it than with a day’s racing? Today we have 6 races throughout the afternoon. The first will launch today’s racing at 1:40pm with The eclipse-marketing.uk Novices’ Handicap Chase. Later in the afternoon we’ll enjoy The Stella Artois Handicap Chase at 3:10pm. Then, ultimately the day will close with The Goose Island Handicap Hurdle at 4:10pm. From everyone here at Bangor-on-Dee Racecourse, we’d like to thank today’s sponsors. Eclipse Marketing, The family of Kitty Warburton and Budweiser Brewing Group. We’re extremely grateful for your continued support. We’ll next meet here at Bangor-on-Dee Racecourse for the much-anticipated Ladies Day fixture on 29 July. We hope you’ll join us then for what promises to be Bangor-on-Dee’s most glamorous fixture of the summer.

Richard Aston, Chairman Bangor-on-Dee Racecourse

RACECOURSE CODE OF CONDUCT As part of our joint commitment to each other and the communities in which we operate, all racegoers should be aware of the Code of Conduct before entering a racecourse: For your safety and the safety of others, please make sure to observe the following whilst at our Racecourse: • If you’re travelling to the racecourse via public transport, please ensure you adhere to the relevant guidance. • Do not travel to the racecourse if you have any Covid-19 symptoms as entry will be denied. • For the safety of other racegoers and racecourse staff, please consider wearing a face covering in busy indoor areas. • Regularly wash your hands, use hand sanitizer and avoid touching your face and dispose of any used tissues appropriately. • Familiarise yourself with your entry point [entry time] and location of amenities within the racecourse • Some racecourses may choose to operate a cashless event. On-course bookmakers/pool betting operators may accept cash. • Enjoy the vast amounts of space around the racecourse and avoid congregating in busy areas (for example, along the rail or by the Winning Post). • Make sure all walkways, corridors and doorways etc are clear before you walk through. • Follow all signage and the instructions of staff, officials or any emergency service personnel present at the racecourse. • Do not try to access areas of the racecourse apart the area detailed on your ticket. • Make sure other members of your group have read and understood these guidelines.

HOW TO BET WITH A

RACECOURSE BOOKMAKER

WAYS TO BET

STRAIGHT

Win only

EACH WAY

A bookmaker taking each way bets will display the terms on which he/she accepts such bets on the top of his/her board. This is a bet for your selection to win or be placed.

STANDARD TERMS FOR EACH WAY BETTING In conjunction with The RCA, the bookmakers have introduced standard each-way terms. Bookmakers will provide these terms, or better, when offering each-way betting. · Fewer than 5 runners – all to win · 5-7 runners – 1/4 odds a place 1-2 · 8 or more runners – 1/5 odds a place 1-2-3 · Handicaps with 12-15 runners – 1/4 odds a place 1-2-3 · Handicaps with 16 or more runners – 1/4 odds a place 1-2-3-4

AWAY BETTING Many bookmakers will also take bets at the other race meetings today. They offer a comprehensive service, including bets settled TAX FREE at Starting Price (S.P.)

BETTING WITHOUT THE FAVOURITE At reduced odds you can back a horse and collect if it wins or runs second to the horse nominated by the bookmaker as favourite.

PLACING YOUR BET Shop around for the best odds against your selection. When you have decided on where to place your bet, state the number of your chosen horse and the stake, for example “number 4, £2 win”. Listen to the bookmaker repeat the number of the horse and the stake to his/her clerk and hand your stake to the bookmaker. You will then be given an itemised receipt that gives details of the bet and shows potential winnings. You should keep this ticket safe.

COLLECTING YOUR WINNINGS If your selection wins (or, in the case of a place bet, is placed), hand the ticket back to the bookmaker for settlement. NEVER destroy your ticket until after the “Weighed In” announcement has been made. There may still be a Stewards’ Enquiry and the first past the post, or placed horses, may be disqualified. On rare occasions even the horse coming fourth has been awarded the race. You may bet with confidence with any bookmaker as they have all been approved by the Administration of Gambling on Tracks Ltd, which administers the betting rings at each of Britain’s 60 racecourses. The AGT also offers a full late pay service, in case a bookmaker leaves the course before you have collected your winnings. Late pay claims should be sent to AGT, 3A Kings Hall,Parsons Green, St Ives, Cambridgeshire PE27 4WY. Tel: 01480 499180 In the unlikely event that no independent bookmaker turns up to service either end of the racecourse (Bangor and Overton car parks), Bangor Sport will be able to service all betting requirements. Bangor Sport will offer to either ‘take the price’ or use the SP as a means of settling any bet. We will endeavour to show all races (including all those from away courses) on screens at either end of the course. If you have any queries, please ask a member of staff for help.

OFFICIAL BHA RATINGS The BHA Handicappers allot ratings to horses once they have taken part in a sufficient number of races to enable the Handicappers to make a numerical assessment of each horse’s ability. The principal purpose of the ratings is to determine the weight to be carried by each runner in handicap races, with the Handicappers aiming to provide each participant with an equal chance based on its best recent form under its optimum conditions. A horse rated 100, for example, would be set to carry 1lb more than a horse rated 99 (ignoring any penalties or allowances). The ratings published in the racecard for handicap races are the ratings that were used to calculate the weight to be carried by each horse, whilst in non-handicaps races the rating shown is that of each runner at the time that the entries for the race were confirmed. Any subsequently published change to a rating, either up or down, is shown in brackets following the rating.

RACE 1

DID YOU KNOW

TODAY’S TOP TIPS Nicky Henderson boasts a 35% strike-rate with his hurdlers at Bangor-on-dee in the last five seasons and today he saddles Lelantos in the Goose Island Handicap Hurdle at 4.11, his only runner on the card.

MORTLACH bolted up at Huntingdon on his chase debut last week and could take a lot of beating here. The 7lb penalty he carries and the four furlongs extra shouldn’t be too much of an inconvenience. The chief threat appears to be Could Be Trouble, who stayed on gamely to win at Warwick earlier this month. Decoration Of War is respected making his reappearance and could be staying on strongly at the business end.

RACE 2

WIN: MORTLACH

METHUSALAR was staying on well when third at Market Rasen earlier this month and is tipped to get off the mark. The Alan King-trained gelding looks to be progressing with each outing and there could be races to be won with him off his current mark. Bright Sunbird was second at Sedgefield recently and has cheekpieces applied for the first time. Chestnut Pete performed well at Uttoxeter on his first run back in a while.

RACE 3

WIN: METHUSALAR

RACE 4

DANGER: COPPER FOX

DARANOVA could not have been more impressive over C&D last time out and a 10lb rise may not be enough to prevent him from going in again. He gets the vote ahead of Ecossais, who ran very well over further at Kelso and remains just 1lb above his last winning mark. San Agustin is a big player based on the pick of his form but he has yet to prove himself over this distance. WIN: DARANOVA

RACE 5

DANGER: BRIGHT SUNBIRD

TIP TOP TONTO would have finished much closer at Plumpton last time had he not suffered interference at the second last, and may gain some compensation here. Copper Fox performed well on his fist start for Donald McCain when chasing home a fancied stablemate and must enter calculations. Stony Man was last seen when fifth in a hot maiden hurdle at Doncaster in January and should find this more suitable. WIN: TIP TOP TONTO

DANGER: ECOSSAIS

It is difficult to look past DURRAGH, who won with consummate ease the last twice at Perth. A 9lb rise for her most recent success could well prove lenient and she is preferred to Iroseaboveitall, who is a very interesting recruit to the Fergal O’Brien stable. Simply Red is another who is entitled to come on for her first run for new connections earlier in the month. WIN: DURRAGH

RACE 6

DANGER: COULD BE TROUBLE

DANGER: IROSEABOVEITALL

LELANTOS looked to be progressing well when last seen in December and a mere 3lb rise for scoring at Fakenham may not be enough to stop her claiming the hat-trick. Butler’s Brief was in a rich vein of form prior to winning this contest last year but the same cannot be said this time around, while The Vollan is another who is very capable on his day. WIN: LELANTOS

DANGER: BUTLER’S BRIEF
