A MESSAGE FROM THE CHAIRMAN SATURDAY 14 MAY 2022

Good Afternoon, Welcome to Bangor-on-Dee Racecourse’s much loved Family Fun Day race meeting. We’re thrilled to be able to welcome you back to our idyllic site in the Welsh countryside where you can enjoy some great British racing, as well as some quality family time together. Today we have 7 exciting races on the card. The day’s excitement begins at 1:05pm with The Wrexham Lager Welsh Gold Liquid Trophy ‘National Hunt’ Maiden Hurdle. Then, the day hits its stride at 2:50pm with The F Jones Initiative Award Handicap Chase 0-120. Finally, the day will draw to a close at 4:35pm with The Goldford Stud National Hunt Flat Race. Today we have a range of free activities for kids on the Open Course just outside the Paddock. These activities include a helter skelter slide, climbing wall, jungle run and much more. We’ll also have some special guest visitors in the afternoon as some real-life superheroes swing by the racecourse to say hi to the kids. From everyone at Bangor-on-Dee, we’d like to extend our thanks to today’s sponsors. First, the title sponsor of today’s race meeting of course, Wrexham Lager. Their history dates to the 1800’s and now they are the pride of Wales as they seek to once again take the world by storm with their unique and heritage rich offering. Racing Welfare are a vitally important charity within the racing industry in the UK. They work tirelessly to support the many staff within the racing industry who make this incredible sport possible each day.

We’ll next race here at Bangor-on-Dee on Tuesday 24 May for our Spring Meeting fixture. We hope you’ll return to visit us again then for what promises to be an unmissable day of racing.

Richard Aston, Chairman Bangor-on-Dee Racecourse

RACECOURSE CODE OF CONDUCT As part of our joint commitment to each other and the communities in which we operate, all racegoers should be aware of the Code of Conduct before entering a racecourse: For your safety and the safety of others, please make sure to observe the following whilst at our Racecourse: • If you’re travelling to the racecourse via public transport, please ensure you adhere to the relevant guidance. • Do not travel to the racecourse if you have any Covid-19 symptoms as entry will be denied. • For the safety of other racegoers and racecourse staff, please consider wearing a face covering in busy indoor areas. • Regularly wash your hands, use hand sanitizer and avoid touching your face and dispose of any used tissues appropriately. • Familiarise yourself with your entry point [entry time] and location of amenities within the racecourse • Some racecourses may choose to operate a cashless event. On-course bookmakers/pool betting operators may accept cash. • Enjoy the vast amounts of space around the racecourse and avoid congregating in busy areas (for example, along the rail or by the Winning Post). • Make sure all walkways, corridors and doorways etc are clear before you walk through. • Follow all signage and the instructions of staff, officials or any emergency service personnel present at the racecourse. • Do not try to access areas of the racecourse apart the area detailed on your ticket. • Make sure other members of your group have read and understood these guidelines.

HOW TO BET WITH A

RACECOURSE BOOKMAKER

WAYS TO BET

STRAIGHT

Win only

EACH WAY

A bookmaker taking each way bets will display the terms on which he/she accepts such bets on the top of his/her board. This is a bet for your selection to win or be placed.

STANDARD TERMS FOR EACH WAY BETTING In conjunction with The RCA, the bookmakers have introduced standard each-way terms. Bookmakers will provide these terms, or better, when offering each-way betting. · Fewer than 5 runners – all to win · 5-7 runners – 1/4 odds a place 1-2 · 8 or more runners – 1/5 odds a place 1-2-3 · Handicaps with 12-15 runners – 1/4 odds a place 1-2-3 · Handicaps with 16 or more runners – 1/4 odds a place 1-2-3-4

AWAY BETTING Many bookmakers will also take bets at the other race meetings today. They offer a comprehensive service, including bets settled TAX FREE at Starting Price (S.P.)

BETTING WITHOUT THE FAVOURITE At reduced odds you can back a horse and collect if it wins or runs second to the horse nominated by the bookmaker as favourite.

PLACING YOUR BET Shop around for the best odds against your selection. When you have decided on where to place your bet, state the number of your chosen horse and the stake, for example “number 4, £2 win”. Listen to the bookmaker repeat the number of the horse and the stake to his/her clerk and hand your stake to the bookmaker. You will then be given an itemised receipt that gives details of the bet and shows potential winnings. You should keep this ticket safe.

COLLECTING YOUR WINNINGS If your selection wins (or, in the case of a place bet, is placed), hand the ticket back to the bookmaker for settlement. NEVER destroy your ticket until after the “Weighed In” announcement has been made. There may still be a Stewards’ Enquiry and the first past the post, or placed horses, may be disqualified. On rare occasions even the horse coming fourth has been awarded the race. You may bet with confidence with any bookmaker as they have all been approved by the Administration of Gambling on Tracks Ltd, which administers the betting rings at each of Britain’s 60 racecourses. The AGT also offers a full late pay service, in case a bookmaker leaves the course before you have collected your winnings. Late pay claims should be sent to AGT, 3A Kings Hall,Parsons Green, St Ives, Cambridgeshire PE27 4WY. Tel: 01480 499180 In the unlikely event that no independent bookmaker turns up to service either end of the racecourse (Bangor and Overton car parks), Bangor Sport will be able to service all betting requirements. Bangor Sport will offer to either ‘take the price’ or use the SP as a means of settling any bet. We will endeavour to show all races (including all those from away courses) on screens at either end of the course. If you have any queries, please ask a member of staff for help.

OFFICIAL BHA RATINGS The BHA Handicappers allot ratings to horses once they have taken part in a sufficient number of races to enable the Handicappers to make a numerical assessment of each horse’s ability. The principal purpose of the ratings is to determine the weight to be carried by each runner in handicap races, with the Handicappers aiming to provide each participant with an equal chance based on its best recent form under its optimum conditions. A horse rated 100, for example, would be set to carry 1lb more than a horse rated 99 (ignoring any penalties or allowances). The ratings published in the racecard for handicap races are the ratings that were used to calculate the weight to be carried by each horse, whilst in non-handicaps races the rating shown is that of each runner at the time that the entries for the race were confirmed. Any subsequently published change to a rating, either up or down, is shown in brackets following the rating.

RACE 1

DID YOU KNOW

TODAY’S TOP TIPS Jonjo O’Neill Jr has a 29% strike rate at Bangor, with 10 wins from 35 rides and a level-stakes profit of £12.83 to a £1 stake. He rides Mr Biggs (1.05), Flinteur Sacre (2.15), Steal A March (3.25), Hey Joe (4.00) and Touchy Feely (4.35) at the track today. In this competitive contest, marginal preference is for KEROSINE LIGHT, who hit the line with plenty of conviction when second at Gowran Park. The five-year-old left a lasting impression on that occasion and the former Eoin Doyle inmate can strike on his debut for Donald McCain. Waterloo Quay has been edging in the right direction but was declared to compete at Aintree on Friday night. Call Me Jezza completes the shortlist.

RACE 2

WIN: KEROSINE LIGHT

GO ON CHEZ arrives with an unbeaten record over the larger obstacles and the six-year-old gets the nod to maintain that status stepping up in trip. There are plenty of dangers, though, including Glendruid, who shed his maiden tag in commanding style at this venue last time out. He demands respect on chase debut, while Paseo is another to consider after taking a modest third off 3lb higher at Chepstow last time.

RACE 3

WIN: GO ON CHEZ

RACE 4 RACE 5

DANGER: GLENDRUID

ADDOSH has been competing in Listed and Graded company and the four-year-old filly may be able to add a fourth career victory to her tally after running well off her current mark in a Grade 3 handicap hurdle at Cheltenham last time. Parisencore arrives on the hunt for a hat-trick of wins and he rates the most immediate danger, while Blakeney Point has been running in hotter handicaps of late and completes the shortlist. WIN: ADDOSH

DANGER: PARISENCORE

COSTLY DIAMOND looks likely to go up in the handicap after winning by 35 lengths at Sedgefield on Tuesday and connections are looking to strike quickly under a 7lb penalty. If she is in the same form here she could prove difficult to beat, unless this race comes too quickly for her. Armattiekan is heading down the handicap towards a winning mark and may prove the biggest danger, though Yccs Portocervo has struggled on his most recent two outings but his previous form gives him a chance. WIN: COSTLY DIAMOND DANGER: ARMATTIEKAN Pennyforapound kept on well over a furlong shorter to win at Worcester last week and a 2lb higher mark may not stop him going well, but a chance is taken on STEAL A MARCH. Twice a winner over hurdles, he was last seen finishing second at Perth in April 2021 and is making his chasing debut now. Sure to have been well schooled, he might prove too good for these, with Red Royalist the likeliest to follow them home. WIN: STEAL A MARCH

RACE 6

DANGER: WATERLOO QUAY

DANGER: PENNYFORAPOUND

Outback Frontiers won his maiden as he pleased at Chepstow and is clearly improving with experience, but he was beaten off a mark 7lb lower when last tried in handicaps and may be vulnerable here. Cosheston is capable of a bold showing off his current rating, but DO YOU THINK won her bumper here and although she is yet to score over hurdles, she may do considerably better in this grade and on the forecast quicker ground.

RACE 7

DANGER: COSHESTON

TOUCHY FEELY was disappointing on her last outing at Uttoxeter, but fears she may need softer ground could be allayed by the fact her dam proved very versatile, having won a Grade 3 at Cheltenham on good going as well as a handicap hurdle at Auteuil on very soft. The Henry Daly-trained Maid Of The Night was a winner between the flags and could improve off the back of her Rules debut, while Treefinch wasn’t disgraced when fourth at Fakenham. WIN: TOUCHY FEELY DANGER: MAID OF THE NIGHT

RACE 8

WIN: DO YOU THINK

Rocco Bay was short of room on his last outing at Listowel but kept on to take third behind the useful Pink In The Park, who has since ran in Listed and Grade 3 bumpers. He will have to be good to get past KILBARRY LEADER, though, as she drove clear on her last outing to win by four lengths at Southwell. I Giorni looks bred to want softer ground, but isn’t taken out of the mix. WIN: KILBARRY LEADER DANGER: ROCCO BAY

Race Summary: A competitive handicap sprint for 3-y-os. HAYMAKER showed good pace when making a winning return over 7f here 2 weeks ago and could have more to come back at this trip, so shades the vote over Harry Three, who took his form to another level when placed over this C&D the last twice. Lir Speciale is a useful prospect heading into handicaps and is another to consider.
