A MESSAGE FROM THE CHAIRMAN FRIDAY 10 DECEMBER 2021 Good Afternoon, It gives me enormous pleasure to welcome you to ‘The MansionBet Christmas Meeting’ here at Bangor-on-Dee Racecourse. Today’s fixture is our last for 2021, but we will be back in no time at all with racing returning on 13th January. Today’s racing is made up of seven races. The first on our card being the RW Hough & Sons Handicap Steeple Chase (Class 5, 4+yo) at 12:20pm. At 1:30pm, we’ll see the Alfa Aggregate Products Golden Spurs Handicap Chase (Class 3, 4+yo) take to the track with a prize of £12,300. The day will then draw to a close with the Merry Christmas And Happy New Year Open National Hunt Flat Race (Class 5) (Category 2 Elimination) (GBB Race) (CL 5)at 3:45pm. Our thanks go to today’s title sponsor MansionBet, as well as our other sponsors RW Hough & Sons, Alfa Aggregate Products, Stan’s Superstore and DTS Scaffolding. Your support is greatly appreciated by all here at Bangor-on-Dee. The next race day here at Bangor-on-Dee will be in the new year on 13th January 2022 as we open the new season with the New Year Meeting. Tickets are available now and we hope you’ll join us again then to kick off another exciting year of racing.

RACECOURSE CODE OF CONDUCT As part of our joint commitment to each other and the communities in which we operate, all racegoers should be aware of the Code of Conduct before entering a racecourse: For your safety and the safety of others, please make sure to observe the following whilst at our Racecourse: • If you’re travelling to the racecourse via public transport, please ensure you adhere to the relevant guidance. • Do not travel to the racecourse if you have any Covid-19 symptoms as entry will be denied. • For the safety of other racegoers and racecourse staff, please consider wearing a face covering in busy indoor areas. • Regularly wash your hands, use hand sanitizer and avoid touching your face and dispose of any used tissues appropriately. • Familiarise yourself with your entry point [entry time] and location of amenities within the racecourse • Some racecourses may choose to operate a cashless event. On-course bookmakers/pool betting operators may accept cash. • Enjoy the vast amounts of space around the racecourse and avoid congregating in busy areas (for example, along the rail or by the Winning Post). • Make sure all walkways, corridors and doorways etc are clear before you walk through. • Follow all signage and the instructions of staff, officials or any emergency service personnel present at the racecourse. • Do not try to access areas of the racecourse apart the area detailed on your ticket. • Make sure other members of your group have read and understood these guidelines.

HOW TO BET WITH A

RACECOURSE BOOKMAKER

WAYS TO BET

STRAIGHT

Win only

EACH WAY

A bookmaker taking each way bets will display the terms on which he/she accepts such bets on the top of his/her board. This is a bet for your selection to win or be placed.

STANDARD TERMS FOR EACH WAY BETTING In conjunction with The RCA, the bookmakers have introduced standard each-way terms. Bookmakers will provide these terms, or better, when offering each-way betting. · Fewer than 5 runners – all to win · 5-7 runners – 1/4 odds a place 1-2 · 8 or more runners – 1/5 odds a place 1-2-3 · Handicaps with 12-15 runners – 1/4 odds a place 1-2-3 · Handicaps with 16 or more runners – 1/4 odds a place 1-2-3-4

AWAY BETTING Many bookmakers will also take bets at the other race meetings today. They offer a comprehensive service, including bets settled TAX FREE at Starting Price (S.P.)

BETTING WITHOUT THE FAVOURITE At reduced odds you can back a horse and collect if it wins or runs second to the horse nominated by the bookmaker as favourite.

PLACING YOUR BET Shop around for the best odds against your selection. When you have decided on where to place your bet, state the number of your chosen horse and the stake, for example “number 4, £2 win”. Listen to the bookmaker repeat the number of the horse and the stake to his/her clerk and hand your stake to the bookmaker. You will then be given an itemised receipt that gives details of the bet and shows potential winnings. You should keep this ticket safe.

COLLECTING YOUR WINNINGS If your selection wins (or, in the case of a place bet, is placed), hand the ticket back to the bookmaker for settlement. NEVER destroy your ticket until after the “Weighed In” announcement has been made. There may still be a Stewards’ Enquiry and the first past the post, or placed horses, may be disqualified. On rare occasions even the horse coming fourth has been awarded the race. You may bet with confidence with any bookmaker as they have all been approved by the Administration of Gambling on Tracks Ltd, which administers the betting rings at each of Britain’s 60 racecourses. The AGT also offers a full late pay service, in case a bookmaker leaves the course before you have collected your winnings. Late pay claims should be sent to AGT, 3A Kings Hall,Parsons Green, St Ives, Cambridgeshire PE27 4WY. Tel: 01480 499180 In the unlikely event that no independent bookmaker turns up to service either end of the racecourse (Bangor and Overton car parks), Bangor Sport will be able to service all betting requirements. Bangor Sport will offer to either ‘take the price’ or use the SP as a means of settling any bet. We will endeavour to show all races (including all those from away courses) on screens at either end of the course. If you have any queries, please ask a member of staff for help.

OFFICIAL BHA RATINGS The BHA Handicappers allot ratings to horses once they have taken part in a sufficient number of races to enable the Handicappers to make a numerical assessment of each horse’s ability. The principal purpose of the ratings is to determine the weight to be carried by each runner in handicap races, with the Handicappers aiming to provide each participant with an equal chance based on its best recent form under its optimum conditions. A horse rated 100, for example, would be set to carry 1lb more than a horse rated 99 (ignoring any penalties or allowances). The ratings published in the racecard for handicap races are the ratings that were used to calculate the weight to be carried by each horse, whilst in non-handicaps races the rating shown is that of each runner at the time that the entries for the race were confirmed. Any subsequently published change to a rating, either up or down, is shown in brackets following the rating.

DID YOU KNOW

Venetia Williams has won two of the last seven runnings of the Golden Spurs Handicap Chase, including 12 months ago with Snuff Box, and she saddles Cuban Pete in this year’s renewal at 1.30.

RACE 1

RICHIE VALENTINE’s best form may be on good ground but his form stands out above the rest in this line-up, having won his last two attempts over this C&D. The seven-year-old was most recently seen going close at Hereford and if building on that, he looks the one to beat, ahead of the likes of Izzy’s Champion, who was a gutsy winner at Musselburgh on his penultimate start, and Royal Act, who goes well in these conditions. Fact Flow and Kingston King are others to consider. WIN: RICHIE VALENTINE DANGER: ROYAL ACT

RACE 2

The Jane Williams stable can do little wrong at present and ADMIRAL BALKO looks just the type that will enjoy these testing conditions, having won at Wincanton over hurdles on soft ground back in March off an identical mark. He may not have put it together just yet over fences, but his fourth at Hereford wasn’t without promise and he gets the nod ahead of the improving Bitasweetsymphony, who has placed on both starts over the larger obstacles. Two-time C&D winner Vocaliser must be respected along with the consistent Zuckerberg, and Gosuatri. WIN: ADMIRAL BALKO DANGER: BITASWEETSYMPHONY

RACE 3

This can go the way of MAJOR DUNDEE, who is likely to have plenty more improvement in the locker after a taking chase debut at Fakenham. Moreover, Alan King’s charge is proven at the trip, having won over close to three miles at Chepstow in March. Muckamore was somewhat lucky to win by such a margin at Wetherby last time out, but that isn’t to suggest he can’t progress from that, while Equus Dreamer is a proven stayer who shaped well on chase debut at Ffos Las. WIN: MAJOR DUNDEE DANGER: EQUUS DREAMER

RACE 4

The suggestion is HAPPY HOLLOW, who looks just the type to enjoy testing conditions, having won on heavy ground at Uttoxeter back in February. Jennie Candlish’s charge has progressed since being upped in trip and he competes off the same mark as when runnerup at Hexham most recently. Paricolor has been knocking on the door, finishing second at Cheltenham and Doncaster, and is feared most. Tedham doesn’t seem to like chasing, but is respected now switching back to hurdles. WIN: HAPPY HOLLOW DANGER: PARICOLOR

RACE 5

LADY TREMAINE was not disgraced when finishing fourth in novice company at Uttoxeter last month. The daughter of Kalanisi appears to have been given a workable mark of 104 for her handicap debut and she gets the nod to strike in this contest, now wearing first-time cheekpieces. Gouet Des Bruyeres remains lightly raced over hurdles and he could have more to offer returning to this sphere, while Von Melas is also considered taking on his elders with the weight-for-age allowance. WIN: LADY TREMAINE DANGER: GOUET DES BRUYERES

RACE 6

BARRICHELLO won a Listed contest last time out and although he has to give 7lb or more away to his rivals today, he may have the class to successfully do so. Possibly better over further, the softer going will help bring his stamina in to play and if he makes all the running again, he may not see another horse. Drenagh has been off since March 2020 but has some useful bumper form which makes him one to watch, while Half The Freedom could go well on his hurdling bow. WIN: BARRICHELLO DANGER: DRENAGH

RACE 7

TODAY’S TOP TIPS

Precious little form to work with here, but BARROWDALE cost 50,000 pounds after winning his point-to-point at Boulta and he seems to have been found a suitable opportunity for his first start under Rules. Come On Gary looks the part on paper and is related to numerous winners over hurdles and fences, so he may get involved first time out, while Cabhfuilfungi has the form in the book after a fourth at Tipperary last March and could be a serious contender here. WIN: BARROWDALE DANGER: CABHFUILFUNGI

A 7lb higher mark looks fair and she gets the nod to follow up. Progressive-hurdler Rose of Arcadia has all the hallmarks of one who will do better over fences and is feared. Precious Eleanor completes the shortlist. 1-2-3: 1.FONTAINE COLLONGES (FR) 2.ROSE OF ARCADIA (IRE) 3.PRECIOUS ELEANOR (FR) FREE form for all British and Irish meetings is available online every day at timeform.com/free

Remembering

Les Gee 1931 – 2020

Les was the epitome of a true gentleman, well known and liked in his home village of Gobowen and here at Bangor-on-Dee racecourse where he was a member since the 60’s and rarely missed a meeting. Les was a very sociable gentleman, it was difficult to find someone he didn’t know, he remembered everyone’s name even in his advanced years. He liked nothing more than a day at the races, enjoying a pint and a bet on the second favourite. Les will be fondly remembered by many here today and his friends are proud to have sponsored this race to honour a true gentleman.
