Ayr Racecard - Wednesday 21st May

Page 1

Welcome to Ayr Racecourse and whether you are a first-time racegoer or a seasoned racing enthusiast I hope you have an enjoyable experience with us today.

I would like to thank all of our owners and trainers for choosing to run their horses here today Our very own Ayr Racecourse Racing Club horses Penelope’s Sister and Sophiesticate both run today, with all of the members joining fees having been donated to our charity partner Ayrshire Cancer Support. Their new cancer centre in Ayr is now open and we are delighted to have been their charity partner throughout this journey A huge congratulations must go to Sandra and her team for a tremendous achievement.

Glasses Up, officially the most prolific Flat winner at Ayr holding the record now of 10 wins at the track, aims to complete a hat-trick following his recent successes by running today. Let’s see if more history can be achieved.

Our next feature raceday is Saturday 21 June, the Unite Scotland Summer Raceday which will feature the Class 1 Land O’Burns 5f sprint race which is one of the fastest races we have at Ayr and is always graced with the top horses. If that wasn’t enough, we will have JLS member Marvin Humes once again providing the post-race entertainment and we will also show live racing from Royal Ascot. Be sure not to miss out.

After racing, we have Paul Skully playing in Western House between 5-8 pm. Please feel free to pop down and enjoy the entertainment.

I would also like to thank our racegoers for attending today and wish you all an enjoyable and successful day out at Ayr and a safe journey home.

Don’t forget our next meeting... SATURDAY 21ST JUNE

Included in the form guide below each horse is a form rating, calculated from the horse’s previous performances, taking into account a number of variables such as finishing position, distance won/beaten by, horses beaten/beaten by, weight carried, race time (compared with the standard time), going allowance, number of days since that performance, etc.

Horses which have not raced will not have a form rating, as may some horses which have raced but not recently in Britain or their performances to-date have not yet merited a rating.

HOW TO BET

1. Pick your Racehorse, look around for the best odds on course, try to proffer the correct stake money for your wager

2. Ask the Bookmaker for your bet by naming the horse. The bookmaker will repeat your bet to his clerk, correct bookmaker if he makes a mistake and receive your Betting Ticket as a receipt for your bet.

3. If your horse wins, give your Betting Ticket to the bookmaker, check your winnings.

4. Check with the bookmaker when placing a bet, the Place Terms. Place Betting, not all on course bookmakers accept each way bets, ie. for a win or a place.

5. In the unlikely event of a dispute after adhering to this procedure, the bookmaker will tell the punter to approach the Ring Official, who will advise you as to your rights.

6. Some course bookmakers have minimum stakes.e.g. £1, £5, £10 but small backers are catered for in the racecourse Betting Shops.

In conjunction with The RCA, the bookmakers have introduced standard each-way terms. Bookmakers will provide these terms, or better, when offering each-way betting.

4TH TIME

Whisperwood failed to justify favouritism when beaten into fourth on her debut at Southwell last month, but it would be no surprise to see her take a step forward. Even so, UNDERWRITER looks the more appealing option. The son of Mehmas changed hands for £200,000 and goes for a yard which knows how to ready one first time out. Any market confidence behind newcomer Strength of Spirit would also be interesting.

TODAY’S JOCKEY TO WATCH - DAVID ALLAN

Irvine born David won’t be free to ride his old ally Glasses Up in the 10 year-old’s bid for an 11th course win at 4.05 but that’s because he’s claimed to ride for Tim Easterby on Hosanna Power and the form of the Yorkshire yard has been one of the features of the early weeks of the new Turf season. Allan has played his usual massive part in that success alongside the yard’s other jockeys Sean Kirrane and the fit-again Duran Fentiman and 4 of the jockey’s 5 rides are for his retaining stable on today’s card, with all of them looking to hold winning chances. Allan’s day starts with stable favourite Copper Knight looking for its 16th career success on the evergreen 11 year-old’s 105th racecourse appearance.

TODAY’S TRAINER TO WATCH - LINDA PERRATT

Linda has yet to saddle her first winner at Ayr this season but her 4 year-old miler Starliner has already gone close here and the same horse won for the stable at Hamilton on Friday night. The Perratt team will be busy saddling 6 runners this afternoon, including 3 in the same race at 3.00 when the yard will be represented by Colour Code, Sixcor and Henery Hawk, the middle one of that trio likely to be the best-fancied with Paul Mulrennan booked to ride. The trainer has enjoyed plenty of big-race success from previous yards in Ayr and Carluke with notable winners at Royal Ascot and the Newmarket July meeting but she’s currently operating out of Jackton near East Kilbride and looks set for another good summer

Having been thwarted in his hat-trick bid when finishing third at Bath 16 days ago, the application of first-time cheekpieces may eke out some improvement in Commanding Prince. Archie Watson’s four-year-old isn’t taken lightly, but ABDUCTION looked an unlucky loser when second at Haydock recently and compensation could be on the cards. The Acclamation gelding was denied a clear run at a crucial point in the closing stages and is taken to go one better. Garden Oasis is also noted. totewin: Abduction toteeachway: Commanding Prince
