WELCOME to the opening day of the Ladbrokes Ayr Gold Cup Festival and what promises to be an excellent afternoon’s racing and an appetiser for the action that follows on Friday and Saturday. I am delighted to welcome Ladbrokes as sponsors of the Festival once again and everyone at Ayr Racecourse is looking forward to working with such a prestigious brand once again. I should wish to take this opportunity to thank all owners and trainers for choosing to participate at Ayr today and I wish them the best of luck. TODAY’S JOCKEY TO WATCH - SAFFIE OSBORNE Saffie’s short career hasn’t resulted in many rides at Ayr but she does have a winner to her name here and she made history at Doncaster last Saturday by becoming the ﬁrst female jockey EVER to win a British Classic. That landmark win came on Joseph O’Brien’s Highwayman in the already historic 250th running of the St Leger and the rider looks like being at Ayr for all 3 days this week. Elsass showed more when making the frame over 1m4f at Kempton earlier in the month and the extra furlong might bring about some improvement. Even so, SPIRIT OF ACKLAM looks the way to go. DRESS CODE Hospitality Suites – Dressing up is encouraged in our hospitality suites although jackets and ties are not compulsory. Strictly no denims. Club Enclosure – The club enclosure operates a smart/casual dress code. We cannot accept trainers, non-tailored shorts, vests, football and rugby shirts. Smart jeans are acceptable. Grandstand – informal and casual dress but no vest tops of football or rugby colours.

HORSE CARE AT AYR At every race meeting at Ayr there are three specially qualiﬁed equine vets appointed to look after the welfare of all horses in action.

MOBILE TELEPHONES & RADIOS The use of mobile telephones is not permitted except by permission of the Clerk of the Course. Bookmakers who have paid the appropriate fee may also use mobile telephones. In addition the use of any transmitting or receiving device, other than the official racecourse, Tote or Police service is prohibited.

During a race two vets follow the action from the centre of the course and can attend a casualty in the same response time as the Medical Teams responsible for the welfare of the Jockeys.

SMOKING Ayr Racecourse adheres to the government’s National No Smoking Policy. All indoor areas are No Smoking Zones. Those wishing to smoke may do so in the designated areas outside.

The third vet is based at the Stable Yard where a close check is kept on all horses especially those returning after a race. MEDIA COVERAGE & RECORDING FOR PROMOTIONAL PURPOSES All Attendees (which for the purposes of this clause also includes horses and for the avoidance of any doubt includes families with children) are reminded that many races and ﬁxtures are given coverage on television, radio and in print and various other forms of media. By entering the Racecourse Attendees are accepting they may appear in such coverage which may also include printed or electronic material used for the promotion of the Racecourse.

USE OF SCREENS It is now standard practice for screens to be erected around any horse receiving veterinary attention on the ground. This does not reﬂect on the severity of an injury, but allows the vet some privacy and the horse the opportunity in a calm environment, in which to make a recovery. Please do not assume the worst if you see screens erected around a fallen horse! For equine care provided at Ayr see under officials at the back of this card.
