Ayr Racecard - Saturday 21st June

Page 1

Welcome to Ayr Racecourse for our Unite Scotland Summer Saturday Raceday, one of the highlights of the season here at Ayr and a fixture which mixes high quality racing with some terrific entertainment.

We now have eight races on today’s card including the feature race, The Unite The Union Winning For Members EBF Land O Burns Fillies’ Stakes, a Class 1 Listed race with £50,000 in prize money This is traditionally one of the fastest races of the year at the track with our five-furlong course and this year will be no exception. At the head of the ratings, we have some highly rated horses including Electric Storm who has already prevailed in Listed company, First Instinct has been placed recently in a Group 2 race, its sure to be very competitive.

Unite Scotland are our principal sponsors for the third year, and I’d like to thank them for their generous support and hope all their members who are with us today have a fabulous time.

Thanks also to Bridgend Motor Group who are sponsoring with us for the fifth year We really appreciate their continued support and again hope all their guests have an amazing day

We should also wish to thank Thompsons Solicitors, Dalcon Civil Engineering and Eco Energy Solar for their generous support.

Thanks as always to the continued generous support of the European Breeder Fund.

I would also wish to congratulate Jim Goldie and all of his team on their huge achievement of winning a Group 1 race at Royal Ascot earlier in the week with American Affair To achieve such a prestigious outcome is all the more remarkable given that Jim had owned and raced the mare that had bred such a superstar A Group 1 race is the pinnacle in Racing, and it is testimony to the talent that exists in the Goldie Racing team that they have prevailed in such an Internationally renowned race.

Today sees the start of Racing Staff Week and we’re staging a charity race following the last race raising money for Racing Welfare.

After racing entertainment is headlined by Marvin Humes in the Ayrshire Suite. This is not to be missed.

I wish all connections the very best of luck and hope you have an enjoyable and successful day with us.

Finally, as always I’d like to thank the Ayr Racecourse Team for their hard work and dedication leading up to this weekend which helps make the fixture the success that it is.

I hope everyone had a most enjoyable day

Don’t forget our next meeting...

9 Form guide 10 Age 11 Weight 12 Stalls Position

Included in the form guide below each horse is a form rating, calculated from the horse’s previous performances, taking into account a number of variables such as finishing position, distance won/beaten by, horses beaten/beaten by, weight carried, race time (compared with the standard time), going allowance, number of days since that performance, etc.

Horses which have not raced will not have a form rating, as may some horses which have raced but not recently in Britain or their performances to-date have not yet merited a rating.

HOW TO BET

1. Pick your Racehorse, look around for the best odds on course, try to proffer the correct stake money for your wager

2. Ask the Bookmaker for your bet by naming the horse. The bookmaker will repeat your bet to his clerk, correct bookmaker if he makes a mistake and receive your Betting Ticket as a receipt for your bet.

3. If your horse wins, give your Betting Ticket to the bookmaker, check your winnings.

4. Check with the bookmaker when placing a bet, the Place Terms. Place Betting, not all on course bookmakers accept each way bets, ie. for a win or a place.

5. In the unlikely event of a dispute after adhering to this procedure, the bookmaker will tell the punter to approach the Ring Official, who will advise you as to your rights.

6. Some course bookmakers have minimum stakes.e.g. £1, £5, £10 but small backers are catered for in the racecourse Betting Shops.

EACH WAY BETTING

In conjunction with The RCA, the bookmakers have introduced standard each-way terms. Bookmakers will provide these terms, or better, when offering each-way betting.

• Fewer than 3 runners - all on to win

• 3 or 4 runners – 1/5 odds a place 1,2

• 5 – 7 runners (inclusive) – 1/4 odds a place 1,2

• 8 or more runners – 1/5 odds a place 1,2,3

• Handicaps with 12 to 15 runners (inclusive) – 1/4 odds a place 1,2,3

• Handicaps with 16 to 21 runners (inclusive) – 1/5 odds a place 1,2,3,4

• Handicaps with 22 or more runners – 1/4 odds a place 1,2,3,4

All bookmakers must display on their boards whether they are betting each way or to win only

PLAY SMARTER

It’s been slim pickings for overseas raiders in this contest in recent years but that may change with SATONO REVE and Lazzat of particular interest A stiff 6f looks absolutely ideal and with firm ground no issue, the Japanese representative is preferred. Last year’s Commonwealth Cup winner Inisherin commands serious respect, too.

SPONSORS

The Ayr Executive would like to thank today’s sponsor for their very generous support. We wish them and their guests an enjoyable day with us.

Congratulations from everyone here at Ayr Racecourse to trainer Jim Goldie after his first Group 1 winner at Royal Ascot with AMERICAN AFFAIR.

The win was a first at Group 1 level for a trainer based in Scotland since the Pattern system was introduced in 1971.

Jim trained his very first winner at Ayr with Dawadar in a hurdle race in October 1993 and also saddled his 1000th winner here with Call Me Ginger in June 2022.

Well done as well to part-owner John McGrandles (Barraston Racing) and jockey Paul Mulrennan.

SUNNY SMILE: Following its run on 21/5/2025 it was reported that the horse lost a shoe.

Probable S.P’s: 7-2 Do Bronxs (IRE), 4-1 Mo of Cairo (GB), 5-1 Sunny Smile (IRE), Homestrait (IRE), 15-2 Stoic Poet (IRE), 14-1 Mind Over Matter (IRE), 18-1 Mighty Magnus (IRE), Moonlight Angel (IRE), 150-1 Saxon Gem (IRE)

Homestrait has plenty to offer based on her three consecutive second-placed finishes and her reliability is a likeable attribute. However, MO OF CAIRO also filled the runner-up spot on his racecourse debut at Hamilton and given the winner of that race was a commendable third in the Windsor Castle at Royal Ascot on Wednesday, the son of Havana Grey gets the vote based on potential. The well-bred Sunny Smile was a noteworthy third when introduced over C&D last month and is another appealing contender.

3RD 4TH TIME

Linda Perratt’s Moon Flight won this off 2lb higher last year but LION’S HOUSE could be the yard’s flag bearer this time if he handles switching to turf after resuming winning ways over 5f at Southwell three weeks ago. Although a surprise winner on the day, the son of Oasis Dream was rated higher as a juvenile and a 4lb rise should be manageable. Fellow last-time-out winner Master of My Fate is feared the most, while Water Of Leith loves it here and also commands respect.

JOCKEY TO WATCH - PAUL MULRENNAN

American Affair was Paul’s first Royal Ascot winner since Dandino won the King George V Handicap for trainer James Given back in 2010 and the jockey’s faith in the Goldie sprinter was evident as he had him in the perfect position throughout the Group One feature before producing the horse with an electrifying burst of pace to go and win. Paul’s record on the Goldie horses at Ayr has been second to none over the past few seasons and the combination is well represented this afternoon with last season’s 10 furlongs course winner Faylaq being a notable contender in the Join Unite Online Johnstone Rose Bowl over a mile and 5 furlongs. Paul has his usual good book of rides here, including the strongly fancied, top-rated Electric Storm for trainer James Tate in our featured Land O’ Burns Stakes. 16% SUCCESS RATE AT AYR OVER THE LAST 5 YEARS 72 WINS FROM 454 RIDES

TODAY’S TRAINER TO WATCH - JIM GOLDIE

Ayr’s reigning champion trainer from 2024 has had a fantastic week with stable star American Affair winning at the very top level in the 5 furlongs Group One King Charles III Stakes on the first day of Royal Ascot. American Affair had gone off a remarkably short 11/4 favourite for last year’s Virgin Bet Ayr Gold Cup but things didn’t fall right for “Charlie” that day and both Jim and jockey Paul Mulrennan had been insistent that he was capable of competing at racing’s top table. Jim was recording his first ever Group 1 success after the yard’s Jack Dexter had finished a close up 7th in back-to-back runnings of what was then the Kings Stand Stakes back in 2014 and 2015 and American Affair’s older half-brother Classy Al is in action in the 5 furlongs handicap after winning last time out at Hamilton.

Wind and gelding operations seem to have had a very positive impact on CREATIF, who has registered a win and two second-placed finishes since undergoing those procedures. With the likelihood of further improvement over this longer trip, the David O’Meara-trained four-year-old can kick on further on just his seventh career start. The ultra-tough La Pulga is a prime candidate to make this a good test from the front end, while Westerton and Oneforthegutter should also be on the premises.

Top-rated Electric Storm was far from disgraced in the Temple last time out and is sure to give her running at this lower level, but it was hard not to be impressed with ENCHANTING, who put her rivals to the sword at Goodwood on seasonal debut last month. The daughter of Blue Point looks more than ready to tackle a contest of this nature now, and she is fancied to find the necessary improvement. First Instinct finished third in the Sandy Lane recently and, in receipt of weight from the aforementioned pair, must be noted. totewin: Enchanting toteeachway: Electric Storm PACE YOURSELF

The application of first-time blinkers resulted in a first career success for SUPERIOR COUNCIL at Hamilton latest. A wide draw isn’t ideal, but there isn’t bundles of early pace on show. If able to adopt a prominent position, he could repeat the dose, which could come at the main expense of Coconut Bay, who will appreciate a return to further having finished third in behind the selection last time. Wiggins B has few miles on the clock and he could be capable of better.

DOOMSDAY is an infrequent winner in truth, but Liam Bailey’s charge was on target at Musselburgh as recently as April. A first-time tongue-tie, combined with the returning cheekpieces, could help eke out a little extra, and dropping into classified company should aid his cause too. Pinjarra didn’t run too badly at Catterick latest and a similar level of performance would give him a chance, while Giselles Izzy is most appealing of the remainder. totewin: Doomsday toteeachway: Pinjarra

A highly creditable third on her return at Doncaster in April, MECCA’S SYMPHONY is entitled to build upon that and a 1lb drop in the weights will make life easier as she looks to break the maiden at the sixth time of asking. Coeur Jaune caught the eye when keeping on from off the pace over 6f at Doncaster recently, and going back up in trip should suit the daughter of Mehmas. A capable sort on his day, Anthropologist cannot be ruled out either in first-time cheekpieces.

WOOHOO looks to be another sprinter going the right way for the Jim Goldie stable. A respectable second in her bid to land the four-timer at Hamilton last time out, this previous C&D winner should appreciate going back up in trip and she is preferred to The Good Biscuit who wasn’t seen to best effect at Pontefract most recently, but hasn’t been with the Ruth Carr stable long. Novak and Opal Storm may also have a say in proceedings.
