WELCOME TO AYR RACECOURSE

Welcome to Scotland’s biggest, richest and most prestigious day of the Flat season with seven quality races headlined by the Ladbrokes Ayr Gold Cup. I should wish to thank all owners and trainers and their equine talent today for their participation it is very much appreciated. The Ladbrokes Ayr Gold Cup once again boasts a high quality field with some of the finest sprinters in the country locking horns over the six furlong course to see who will prevail and get their name on the famous trophy. This year the field is headed by the top rated and Group race winning Spycatcher and of course Phil Cunningham’s winner last year Run Boy Run is back to defend his title, who can forget Phil’s amazing double of winning the Silver Cup too. Could they go one better this year and win the Bronze Cup as well, what a feat that would be. The Ladbrokes “Get Racing Bet Builder Winnings Boosts” Doonside Cup Class 1 Listed race is our Premier middle distance race and this year again every horse is rated greater than 100 which proves what a quality race this is. Today’s renewal living up to this race’s huge reputation, every horse today is Group standard. I’d like to say a huge thanks on behalf of everyone to Ladbrokes for their sponsorship of the Ladbrokes Ayr Gold Cup Festival and additionally I should wish to thank our other sponsors The European Breeders Fund and of course great supporters of racing Jordans Electrics. There is entertainment galore over the whole site including George Bowie in the Ayrshire Suite after racing. I’d also like to thank the team at Ayr Racecourse for their unstinted efforts to ensure these racedays are as special. Finally, I thank you for your support and hope you enjoy this very special day’s racing and entertainment.

FIRST RACE 1.20

THE LADBROKES ‘BET £5 GET £30 NEW CUSTOMER OFFER’ HANDICAP STAKES (CLASS 2) RACE DESCRIPTION

Our opener today is a one mile handicap race for three-year-olds and upwards which have been rated from 81 to 100. In a handicap the weight that each of the runners carries is determined by their official handicap rating which is based on their level of form shown so far. The aim is to ensure competitive racing by asking the higher rated horses to carry more weight than a lower rated rival. As a guide, horses rated 40 tend to be at the lower end of the scale whilst the very best performers would be rated as high as 130.

LAST YEAR’S WINNER THUNDER ROAR

SP: 5/1F Age/Weight: 6-9-8 Runners: 14 Jockey: David Nolan Trainer: Tony Coyle & Kaine Wood Summary: Fresh off of his strong Ascot fourth, the six-yearold trained by Tony Coyle & Kaine Wood delivered a classy performance to win the day’s opener. Holding out in midfield for much of the early goings he made his move late on, taking the lead just over a furlong out and never relinquished it.

RACE STATISTICS YOUR RACE-BY-RACE FACTS, FANCIES & STATISTICS LEADING COURSE TRAINER (20-25): J Goldie (103 wins from 746 runners, 14%) runs SALAM DUBAWI TRAINER-IN-FORM (LAST 14 DAYS): K R Burke (12 wins from 53 runners, 23%) runs NAVAL LIGHT FANCY THAT: R Spencer won this race in 2021 and 2023. The stable runs HAWKSBILL today. LONGEST TRAVELLER: THAT’S AMORE trained by R Beckett, Kimpton Down, 415 miles.

The handicapper has yet to get to grips with McMurray, who made a winning reappearance at Chester back in May and bids for a five-timer. Thunder Roar beat Theoryofeverything by a length to land last year’s renewal, but he was well beaten by SPOKEN TRUTH at Ripon last month. David O’Meara’s charge won a shade cosily in a first-time tongue strap and with the headgear remaining in place, the Frankel gelding may well defy a 5lb rise.

The Newmarket trainer has already won an Ayr Gold Cup thanks to Nahaarr under Tom Marquand in 2020 and he looks set to be doubly represented in today’s £180,000 feature thanks to ante-post favourite Binhareer and stablestalwart Wiltshire. The 66 year-old’s highest profile performer this year has been the dual Group 1 winning sprinter Almeraq, a Dark Angel 4 year-old successful at Royal Ascot and Haydock in two of the biggest 6 furlong sprints in the calendar. Almeraq is no stranger to racegoers here at Ayr as the sprinter won last year’s Ayr Gold Cup Trial in July before being denied a run in the Gold Cup itself by an injury sustained in a fall at York, just 2 weeks before Ayr.

SECOND RACE 1.55

THE LADBROKES ‘GET RACING BET BUILDER WINNINGS BOOSTS’ DOONSIDE CUP STAKES (CLASS 1) (Listed Race) RACE DESCRIPTION

This one mile, two-furlong contest for three-year-olds and upwards is a Listed race; a race that can only be bettered by a Group 1, 2 or 3 race. Many of the runners in this race will have already shown themselves to be talented and this race provides a perfect medium for them to be tested against a better class of rival before making the jump into a Group race. Initially, the weights are set at 9st for 3-y-o colts and geldings and 8st 9lb for fillies the same age, with 9st 5lb for 4-y-o+ colts and geldings and 9st for fillies before penalties are awarded to horses that have previously won above a certain level – 3lb for a Listed race victory, 5lb for a Group 3 success and 7lb for a Group 1 or 2 win.

LAST YEAR’S WINNER ALMERIC

SP: 13/8F Age/Weight: 3-9-3 Runners: 6 Jockey: Oisin Murphy Trainer: Andrew Balding Summary: Andrew Balding’s colt completed the hattrick with this success. He had scored at York as a two-year-old and opened 2025 with a win in the Listed Feilden Stakes at Newmarket and continued that form here. Despite a rather slow start, his rivals proved no match for him.

RACE STATISTICS YOUR RACE-BY-RACE FACTS, FANCIES & STATISTICS LEADING COURSE TRAINER (20-25): K R Burke (20 wins from 129 runners, 16%) runs ICE MAX TRAINER-IN-FORM (LAST 14 DAYS): A Balding (20 wins from 98 runners, 20%) runs HIGH STOCK FANCY THAT: A Balding won this race in 2019 and 2025. The stable runs HIGH STOCK today. LONGEST TRAVELLER: HIGH STOCK trained by A Balding, Kingsclere, 375 miles.

ECUREUIL SECRET made a winning seasonal debut last term and Richard and Peter Fahey will likely have him primed for action for this year’s reappearance. The son of Wootton Bassett finished third behind a couple of subsequent Group 1 winners at York last summer and a repeat effort would see him bang there at the finish. Fast Tracker reverts to this longer trip with solid claims, while Sea Scout also merits plenty of respect.

THIRD RACE 2.30

THE LADBROKES AYR SILVER CUP HANDICAP STAKES (CLASS 2) RACE DESCRIPTION

After every race the official handicapper reviews all performances and alters the runners rating, either up or down, in accordance with their performance. A below-par effort could result in the drop of a point or two whilst a barnstorming victory could see a horse’s rating increase significantly. However, if a recent winner runs again soon after its win, there will not be time to reassess their performance, so they will be allotted a mandatory 6lb penalty. This handicap has been designed for three-year-olds and upwards and will be run over six furlongs - a consolation race for those who just missed out on the Gold Cup later on today.

LAST YEAR’S WINNER CANDY

SP: 8/1 Age/Weight: 3-9-10 Runners: 25 Jockey: George Wood Trainer: Richard Spencer Summary: Richard Spencer’s three-year-old built nicely on his prior fourth to take the win in this contest. Riding towards the near side, he soon moved into the lead and was clear of the field with just over a furlong to go. Sondad raced valiantly in second but proved no match for the winner.

RACE STATISTICS YOUR RACE-BY-RACE FACTS, FANCIES & STATISTICS LEADING COURSE TRAINER (20-25): J Goldie (103 wins from 746 runners, 14%) runs ETERNAL SUNSHINE TRAINER-IN-FORM (LAST 14 DAYS): T Easterby (12 wins from 107 runners, 11%) runs I’M NEXT LONGEST TRAVELLERS: UNCLE DON trained by R Cowell, RAPPER’S DELIGHT trained by R Spencer, GOLDMOYNE trained by J Owen, all Newmarket, 360 miles. DESERT FALCON was struck into at Doncaster last week, so his sixth in the Portland can be marked up. Beaten only a neck in the Gold Cup here last year, Julie Camacho’s sprinter looks set to make a bold bid only 2lb higher. Stablemate Havana Blue arrives at the top of his game having won at Ascot recently to land a double, but Deep Havana makes more appeal having made a winning debut for new connections when scoring at Thirsk. Commanche Falls, Trilby and Jungle Drums are others for the shortlist.

TODAY’S JOCKEY TO WATCH - OISIN MURPHY The reigning champion jockey is trailing younger rival Billy Loughnane in this year’s title race but the Irishman is still riding at the top of his game and he’s one of 13 current jockeys who’ve won a Ladbrokes Ay Gold Cup, dating back to John Egan in 1998. Murphy rode the winner on Andrew Balding’s Scottish-owned Highland Colori in 2013 as part of a fantastic Gold Cup day 4-timer and he was back in the winners’ enclosure on Gold Cup day here 12 months ago when he rode Balding’s Almeric to victory in the Listed Doonside Cup. The rider has been champion jockey 5 times since his success in the Apprentice Championship back in 2014 and his mounts ae sure to be popular choices for punters on his return to Ayr for the track’s biggest day of the Flat racing season.

FOURTH RACE 3.05

THE LADBROKES ‘NEW CUSTOMERS GET 50/1 OLD FIRM OFFER’ FIRTH OF CLYDE (CLASS 1) (Group 3) RACE DESCRIPTION

This six-furlong race for two-year-old fillies is a Group 3 contest – a race which can only bettered by a Group 1 or 2. Many of the runners will have already posted form well above average and some may use this as a stepping-stone to even greater things. Initially, all runners will carry 9st 2lb before penalties are awarded to horses which have won above a certain level prior to lining up here – 3lb to Group 3 winners and 5lb for those successful in a Group 2 or Group 1.

LAST YEAR’S WINNER CATCHING THE MOON (IRE)

SP: 15/2 Age/Weight: 2-9-2 Runners: 13 Jockey: Oisin Murphy Trainer: Richard Fahey Summary: Catching The Moon rounded off her debut season in fine style by taking this Group 3 contest. She was second on debut in July before getting her first win shortly after and came into this race in top form. She started strong and never let up, battling well to hold off Lam Yai by a neck.

The stable runs RUBY MOON today. LONGEST TRAVELLER: DARK ISSUE trained by R Hannon, Marlborough, 368 miles.

Dark Issue was only beaten half a length into second in the Dick Poole at Salisbury at the start of the month and commands respect with Tom Marquand now doing the steering. However, SILENT BEAUTY readily took care of her nearest rival by three lengths when victorious in Listed company at Ripon and she could make it three wins from four career appearances. Duchess Of Cambridge fourth Ruby Moon is another to keep a close eye on.

THE LADBROKES AYR GOLD CUP Distance Six furlongs Prize money £180,000

51 YEARS SINCE ROMAN WARRIOR

The last Scottish trained winner of the Ladbrokes Ayr Gold Cup in 1975.

Today’s renewal of Scotland’s most valuable Flat race marks 51 years since Roman Warrior became the last Scottish-trained horse to win Ayr’s big race back in 1975. The 17 hands chestnut 4 year-old carried top-weight of 10-0 to win under jockey Johnny Seagrave, a victory which gave local trainer Nigel Angus a second win in the race after success for Swinging Junior (Richard Hutchinson) in 1972. Old Etonian Angus trained over 200 winners in 9 seasons at Cree Lodge and he came within a whisker of adding a third Gold Cup to his c.v. in 1977, when Future Forest was caught close home by Mick Easterby’s Jon George.

WHEN WAS THE RACE FIRST RUN?

The Ayr Gold Cup was first run on the original Ayr Racecourse on the south side of Ayr in 1804 and restricted to horses trained in Scotland. It was won by Chancellor, who also won the race in the following year. The race was run over two miles back in those days.

LEADING JOCKEYS?

Since 1980 five jockeys have won the race twice – John Lowe – Sparkling Boy (1980), Final Shot (1990); Jimmy Fortune Joveworth (1989),Coastal Bluff (1996);Daryll Holland Royal Figurine (1995), Continent (2001); Adrian Nicholls Bahamaian Pirate (2000), Funfair Wane (2002); Frankie Dettori Jimmy Styles (2009), Redford (2010).

LEADING TRAINERS?

Bielsa’s success three years ago gave trainer Kevin Ryan his fifth winner of the Ayr Gold Cup. His previous successes came with Brando (2016), Captain Ramius (2012), Our Jonathan (2011) and Advanced (2007). The winningmost trainer of the race is the late Dandy Nicholls with six wins.

WINNING STALLS

In the past 20 renewals of the Ayr Gold Cup, stalls 8 and 12 have been the most prolific with 3 winners each emerging.

DEAD HEAT

In 2018 the Ayr Gold Cup finished in a dead heat as favourite Son of Rest and outsider Baron Bolt could not be separated in a photo finish.

DO FAVOURITES HAVE A GOOD RECORD IN THE RACE?

Only FIVE outright favourites have won the Ayr Gold Cup in the last 50 years but 2023 winner Significantly (Joe Fanning) was Joint Favourite and that improves the recent record of favourites to 4 wins in the last 12 runnings.

WHO ARE THE SPONSORS?

Ladbrokes are the new sponsors of the Ayr Gold Cup after being associated with the race before for the 22 runnings between Primula Boy’s win in 1979 and Bahamian Pirate’s success in 2000. Ladbrokes are also currently associated with the Ladbrokes Christmas Festival at Kempton, the Ladbrokes Chester Cup and the Ladbrokes Chase at the Dublin Racing Festival.

REMEMBERING PAST WINNERS

The last Scottish trained winner Roman Warrior (1975) has a restaurant named after him at the track, as does the 1804 and 1805 victor Chancellor. Added to those two, the Be Friendly Bar is named after the 1867 winner which was owned by the late Sir Peter O’Sullevan.

FIFTH RACE 3.40

THE LADBROKES AYR GOLD CUP HANDICAP STAKES (CLASS 2) (Heritage Handicap) RACE DESCRIPTION

This afternoon’s feature race is a historic six-furlong handicap race for three-year-olds and upwards. The majority of handicaps are designed for horses from with a specific ratings band but this particular race has no rating restrictions attached to it which allows horses with a higher rating to take part. Despite having no rating restrictions attached to it the higher rated horses must still concede weight to their lower rated rivals, which tend to make open handicaps very competitive races.

LAST YEAR’S WINNER RUN BOY RUN

SP: 12/1 Age/Weight: 4-9-2 Runners: 25 Jockey: George Wood Trainer: Richard Spencer Summary: Run Boy Run secured his first win of the season with this result. Racing up the far side he was made to work for this win, being put under pressure throughout the contest. He continued on gamely however, delivering an impressive win.

RACE STATISTICS YOUR RACE-BY-RACE FACTS, FANCIES & STATISTICS LEADING COURSE TRAINER (20-25): D O’Meara (30 wins from 231 runners, 13%) runs PELLITORY TRAINER-IN-FORM (LAST 14 DAYS): A Balding (20 wins from 98 runners, 20%) runs DANCE IN THE STORM FANCY THAT: K Ryan won this race in 2016 and 2021. The stable runs HAMMER THE HAMMER, ROCK ON THUNDER & VOLTERRA today. LONGEST TRAVELLER: BODHI BEAR trained by J A Stack, Ireland. Richard Spencer has proven to have a dab hand in these highly competitive sprint handicaps in recent years, including when saddling last year’s winner Run Boy Run. He has four contenders this time around and Twilight Calls is arguably his leading hope after his runner-up effort in the Portland at Doncaster, but his battalion might be worth taking on with FAR ABOVE DREAM. James Owen’s charge had eight of these rivals behind when denied a nose into second in a contest that is working out very well at York and that looks the key piece of form to focus on. At a price, Volterra might be one to watch out for.

SIXTH RACE 4.15

THE BRITISH STALLION STUDS EBF NOVICE STAKES (CLASS 2) RACE DESCRIPTION

This seven furlongs and 50 yards Novice Stakes is restricted to two-year-olds but in order to take part all of the runners must meet certain conditions. Unlike a maiden, which is restricted to horses yet to record a victory, winning horses which have run in a maximum of six races are eligible to run. Weights are set according to sex before previous winners are allocated penalties depending on the level at which they have been successful.

LAST YEAR’S WINNER NOBODY KNOWS (IRE)

SP: 5/4F Age/Weight: 2-9-4 Runners: 7 Jockey: Oisin Murphy Trainer: Richard Hughes Summary: The third winner of the day for Oisin Murphy, Nobody Knows secured the win on his debut. Well-backed in the betting due to his excellent pedigree, this son of Wootton Bassett more than justified his support proving far too much for his rivals to handle.

RACE STATISTICS YOUR RACE-BY-RACE FACTS, FANCIES & STATISTICS LEADING COURSE TRAINER (20-25): M Dods (34 wins from 280 runners, 12%) runs NORTHERN CROWN TRAINER-IN-FORM (LAST 14 DAYS): A Balding (20 wins from 98 runners, 20%) runs AMIR LEHBAB FANCY THAT: K Ryan won this race in 2021 and 2022. The stable runs CAGNEY and GOLD KEY today. K R Burke won this race in 2019 and 2023. The stable runs GOLDEN SOUK today. LONGEST TRAVELLER: AMIR LEHBAB trained by A Balding, Kingsclere, 375 miles.

Gold Key showed marked improvement from his debut ninth at Newcastle when headed in the closing stages at Thirsk last month. Kevin Ryan’s colt could step up again and must enter calculations, but the 82-rated AMIR LEHBAB edges the vote. The son of No Nay Never arrives on the back of a close-up second in a similar contest at Doncaster and compensation may beckon. Golden Souk and Rogue Constelation are the pick of the newcomers and merit a check in the betting.

UPCOMING 2026 NATIONAL HUNT FIXTURES...

SEVENTH RACE 4.50

THE JORDAN ELECTRICS HANDICAP STAKES (CLASS 4) RACE DESCRIPTION

The final race of the afternoon is a seven furlongs and 50 yards handicap race for three-year-olds and upwards which have been rated from 61-80. Like most handicaps on the flat this race is also open to horses that are rated below that particular band. However, all handicaps stipulate a minimum weight and no runner can carry less than that, irrespective of how low their rating is. This is often described as ‘running from out of the handicap’ and is considered a disadvantage.

LAST YEAR’S WINNER (DIV I) JANNAS JOURNEY (IRE)

SP: 7/2 Age/Weight: 4-9-10 Runners: 11 Jockey: David Egan Trainer: Jim Goldie Summary: The first division of the day’s finale saw the well-backed Jannas Journey follow up her Musselburgh success to score in impressive fashion, looking comfortable throughout.

LAST YEAR’S WINNER (DIV II) MIDNIGHT LION

SP: 25/1 Age/Weight: 5-9-3 Runners: 12 Jockey: Lauren Young Trainer: Jim Goldie Summary: Midnight Lion suprised everyone with his win in this one as trainer Jim Goldie took both divisions of this race. The five-year-old had been out of form before this race and could only manage 12th in the Kilkerran here on Thursday but was largely unchallenged here.

RACE STATISTICS YOUR RACE-BY-RACE FACTS, FANCIES & STATISTICS LEADING COURSE TRAINER (20-25): J Goldie (103 wins from 746 runners, 14%) runs DWINDLING FUNDS & JANNAS JOURNEY TRAINER-IN-FORM (LAST 14 DAYS): T Easterby (12 wins from 107 runners, 11%) runs QUEST FOR FUN & SON FANCY THAT: J Goldie won this race in 2022 and 2025. The stable runs DWINDLING FUNDS & JANNAS JOURNEY today. LONGEST TRAVELLERS: VIPER trained by B Ellison, QUEST FOR FUN & SON trained by T Easterby, COTAI BELLE trained by R & P Fahey, all Malton, 212 miles.

Having landed the spoils on five of his last six appearances, Classy Clarets merits the utmost of respect given his current vein of form. That said, the five-year-old is effectively 12lb higher with Tom Marquand taking over, which could leave the door open for fellow in-form rival QUEST FOR FUN. Tim Easterby’s charge has posted several creditable efforts in defeat this season and a 2lb rise for his narrow defeat at York recently appears fair. The relatively unexposed Blakefell also catches the eye.

HORSE CARE AT AYR At every race meeting at Ayr there are three specially qualified equine vets appointed to look after the welfare of all horses in action.

MOBILE TELEPHONES & RADIOS The use of mobile telephones is not permitted except by permission of the Clerk of the Course. Bookmakers who have paid the appropriate fee may also use mobile telephones. In addition the use of any transmitting or receiving device, other than the official racecourse, Tote or Police service is prohibited.

During a race two vets follow the action from the centre of the course and can attend a casualty in the same response time as the Medical Teams responsible for the welfare of the Jockeys.

SMOKING Ayr Racecourse adheres to the government’s National No Smoking Policy. All indoor areas are No Smoking Zones. Those wishing to smoke may do so in the designated areas outside.

The third vet is based at the Stable Yard where a close check is kept on all horses especially those returning after a race. MEDIA COVERAGE & RECORDING FOR PROMOTIONAL PURPOSES All Attendees (which for the purposes of this clause also includes horses and for the avoidance of any doubt includes families with children) are reminded that many races and fixtures are given coverage on television, radio and in print and various other forms of media. By entering the Racecourse Attendees are accepting they may appear in such coverage which may also include printed or electronic material used for the promotion of the Racecourse.

USE OF SCREENS It is now standard practice for screens to be erected around any horse receiving veterinary attention on the ground. This does not reflect on the severity of an injury, but allows the vet some privacy and the horse the opportunity in a calm environment, in which to make a recovery. Please do not assume the worst if you see screens erected around a fallen horse! For equine care provided at Ayr see under officials at the back of this card.

Accordingly, Attendees shall have no right to object to their inclusion in any much coverage whether produced by the Racecourse or by third parties authorised by the Racecourse. Furthermore by entering the Racecourse each Attendee consents to the passing of still or moving images of them to third parties authorised by the Racecourse for the purposes of the production of printed or electronic material to be used solely for the Promotion of the Racecourse.

FULL TERMS AND CONDITIONS OF ENTRY You can view a full list of our terms and conditions of entry as well as lots of other useful information on our website, simply use the QR code or visit www.ayr-racecourse.co.uk

Each Attendee will give any additional consents or waivers required for the unrestricted lawful use of any coverage (if any) without request for payment or imposing any other conditions. 61
