Ayr Racecard - Monday 14th July

Page 1

Welcome to Ayr Racecourse for the Racing TV raceday the second of four consecutive Monday meetings here in July

Whether you are a first-time racegoer or a seasoned racing enthusiast, I hope you have an enjoyable experience with us today

We will have some fiercely contested races today and our 2-year-old race always provides a future star, today will no doubt provide the same. Glasses Up has won 11 times at Ayr and is looking to put his record further into the distance, will any horse ever emulate that achievement. The Ayr Racecourse Club horses are out in force today and hopefully all of the members here have an enjoyable day

The Ayr Gold Cup trial race takes place next Monday and there is due to be some exciting news revealed in the near future about the Ayr Gold Cup itself

I’d like to thank our owners and trainers for choosing to run their horses here today and I wish all connections the very best of luck and sincerely hope you have a successful day and return again in the future.

Don’t forget our next meeting... MONDAY 21ST JULY

Horses which have not raced will not have a form rating, as may some horses which have raced but not recently in Britain or their performances to-date have not yet merited a rating.

HOW TO BET

1. Pick your Racehorse, look around for the best odds on course, try to proffer the correct stake money for your wager

5. In the unlikely event of a dispute after adhering to this procedure, the bookmaker will tell the punter to approach the Ring Official, who will advise you as to your rights.

6. Some course bookmakers have minimum stakes.e.g. £1, £5, £10 but small backers are catered for in the racecourse Betting Shops.

UNDERWRITER struggled in the Coventry at Royal Ascot last time, but the son Mehmas won impressively over C&D on his introduction and can be given another chance in this company. Mind Over Matter and Cosmic Clarets are obvious dangers having both hit the crossbar on debut, although the former is the slight pick of the pair with his course experience. Nursia was an expensive purchase and any market support for him would have to be noted. totewin: Underwriter toteeachway: Mind Over Matter

Ziggy’s Triton got off the mark at Nottingham recently and has to be respected, but the return to handicap company demands more from him. With that in mind, marginal preference is for ETERNAL SUNSHINE, who was a close third off this mark over C&D two starts ago. The five-yearold can leave a subsequent defeat at Hamilton behind her on her return to this venue. Others to note are Our Absent Friends and Classy Al totewin: Eternal Sunshine

NOTICES

Weights, Pedigrees, Trainers’ Names, Descriptions, Performances and Values of races have been added for the convenience of the Public, but are subject to alteration. All horses must parade in the Parade Ring except by permission of the Stewards, but in all cases must pass through the Ring on the way to the Post.

TODAY’S TRAINER TO WATCH - LUCINDA RUSSELL

Scottish Grand National winning trainer and dual Aintree heroine Lucinda is much better known for her exploits over obstacles but a burgeoning Flat operation is keeping things ticking over nicely during the summer months and the Milnathort yard has been in terrific form. Before saddling a runner at Hamilton on Saturday night, Lucinda’s horses had won 4 of their last 8 outings on the level and 3 of them came last week with a winner here at Ayr last Monday, closely followed by further consecutive successes at Carlisle and York. The Russell yard has 2 runners here this afternoon, starting with recent charity race winner Moyola (not in the form book) at 3.10 and concluding with Balmerino in the 4.10, both horses to be ridden by Oisin Orr

AYR GOLD CUP TRIAL, CLASS

MONDAY 21 JULY

We stage the fourth running of the Ayr Gold Cup Trial, the highlight of our card on Glasgow Fair Family Raceday on Monday 21 July which is once again generously sponsored in celebration of Fergie and Myra Happel.

The race was introduced for horses aged 3 years and upwards rated between 71-90

We think it creates the ideal platform for horses progressing through the handicap ranks and encourage them to go and run in either the Ayr Gold, Silver or Bronze Handicaps

Last years running attracted a strong field and many of the entrants went on to compete later in September with the winner of the Trial, Alfa Kellenic subsequently triumphing in the Ayr Silver Cup.

Ayr Racecourse Managing Director David Brown said “I was delighted with the third running of the Ayr Gold Cup Trial. I would hope that this year’s renewal builds on last years success and with £30,000 prize money available on a Monday afternoon, I’m sure we will see a fiercely contested race”

A stunning trophy previously run for a race named the Squadron Gallop will be held by the winning owner for a year.

TODAY’S JOCKEY TO WATCH - KAIYA FRASER

Kaiya has been making a big impression over the past couple of seasons and the young jockey has already ridden out his apprentice claim as he edges ever closer to 100 career winners. The rider’s Scottish-based agent has secured 3 winners for his client at Ayr so far but he’s back with a good book of 4 rides this afternoon after taking 5 mounts at Hamilton on Saturday night. Fraser is picking up plenty of mounts outside of his retaining Harry Eustace stable and he’s already had 4 wins this year on Ruth Carr’s Hostelry and 3 successes on the Rebecca Menzies trained Brazilian Rose.

In a wide-open handicap, it may be best to side with KEEP ME STABLE, who arrives at the top of her game after wins at Musselburgh over the mile she faces here and then 7f. Upped a further 4lb, that may not be enough to stop her. Detective looks a huge danger after his recent Musselburgh triumph, where he got up late after meeting trouble. The consistent Penelope’s Sister might follow them home for yet another placing.

BELTANE ran a blinder when beaten a length and a quarter into third at Beverley, where he was headed inside the final furlong after possibly hitting the front too soon. If ridden with slightly more restraint, he may last home this time. If Clasina can repeat her June Wetherby third in a better race, she can go close off the same mark. Chiefman sports a first-time visor so improvement isn’t out of the question.

SPIORADALTA stayed on well from off the pace to finish a respectable third in a tougher handicap at Beverley last month. Mark Walford’s charge gets another chance back at this level and is only 3lb higher than when successful at Ripon in May. Bamburgh represents last year’s winning yard and also drops in class with a shout off his current mark. The veteran Glasses Up can’t be ruled out with any confidence as he bids for a remarkable 12th course victory.

CASCADE HALL showed signs of a resurgence when third at Newcastle recently. Jim Goldie’s charge returns to this track for the first time since beaten a head over a longer distance back in May, so looks to have solid claims off a 3lb lower mark. Elemental Eye has been threatening to finally open his account and went close to doing so over 1m6f at Nottingham. Naturalia steps up in distance with a shout.
