Ayr Racecard - Friday 19th September

Page 1

WELCOME to Ladbrokes Ladies Day which features some high class racing plus the Style Awards with fabulous prizes on offer.

There are eight races today and I would wish to thank all owners and trainers for declaring their horses to run today and what a feast we have including the Ladbrokes Ayr Bronze Cup, the British EBF Stallions Harry Rosebery Stakes, and the Arran Scottish Sprint EBF Fillies’ Stakes amongst the eight.

The Bronze Cup has a maximum field of 25 horses all vying to win the first of our three sprint cups this weekend and may give an early indication as to where the winners of the Ladbrokes Ayr Gold and Silver Cups will emerge from tomorrow

The British Stallions EBF Harry Rosebery Stakes invariably produces a speedy winner Today’s field again features some talented young horses from leading stables and an exciting race is in prospect.

The Arran Scottish Sprint EBF Fillies’ Stakes was only introduced in 2018 and has quickly established itself as one of the leading races at the Festival. This race is a real test of speed for fillies and this year’s contest is no exception. We have no fewer than 3 previous Class 1 Ayr winners participating. At the head of the field is last year’s winner of this race defending her crown Star Of Lady M. Also taking part is the 2024 winner of the Land O’Burns sprint star Beautiful Diamond and they are all looking to prevail over last year’s winner of the Harry Rosebery Star Of Mehmas. It is sure to be ultra competitive.

Our Style Awards take place in the Champagne Lawns with some fabulous prizes on offer possibly the best ever including, courtesy of Stewart Travel, an amazing trip to Mauritius worth an eye watering £7500, a £1200 Slaters voucher and an 18ct Diamond necklace kindly offered by Logan Jewellers. Check out the Style Awards page for full details. I’d like to thank all the companies who sponsor these awards.

I must give a special mention to today’s sponsors without whose support we wouldn’t be able to stage such high quality racing, Ladbrokes, the European Breeders Fund, Thistle Cabs, The family of Graeme Allan and Slater Menswear a big thank you.

Days like this take a lot of planning and I’d like to extend my thanks to the team at Ayr Racecourse for ensuring everything runs smoothly

I hope that you all enjoy an exciting afternoon of racing, style awards and entertainment.

Don’t forget our next meeting... SATURDAY 20TH SEPTEMBER

9 Form guide 10 Age 11 Weight 12 Stalls Position

Included in the form guide below each horse is a form rating, calculated from the horse’s previous performances, taking into account a number of variables such as finishing position, distance won/beaten by, horses beaten/beaten by, weight carried, race time (compared with the standard time), going allowance, number of days since that performance, etc.

Horses which have not raced will not have a form rating, as may some horses which have raced but not recently in Britain or their performances to-date have not yet merited a rating.

HOW TO BET

1. Pick your Racehorse, look around for the best odds on course, try to proffer the correct stake money for your wager

2. Ask the Bookmaker for your bet by naming the horse. The bookmaker will repeat your bet to his clerk, correct bookmaker if he makes a mistake and receive your Betting Ticket as a receipt for your bet.

3. If your horse wins, give your Betting Ticket to the bookmaker, check your winnings.

4. Check with the bookmaker when placing a bet, the Place Terms. Place Betting, not all on course bookmakers accept each way bets, ie. for a win or a place.

5. In the unlikely event of a dispute after adhering to this procedure, the bookmaker will tell the punter to approach the Ring Official, who will advise you as to your rights.

6. Some course bookmakers have minimum stakes.e.g. £1, £5, £10 but small backers are catered for in the racecourse Betting Shops.

EACH WAY BETTING

In conjunction with The RCA, the bookmakers have introduced standard each-way terms. Bookmakers will provide these terms, or better, when offering each-way betting.

• Fewer than 3 runners - all on to win

• 3 or 4 runners – 1/5 odds a place 1,2

• 5 – 7 runners (inclusive) – 1/4 odds a place 1,2

• 8 or more runners – 1/5 odds a place 1,2,3

• Handicaps with 12 to 15 runners (inclusive) – 1/4 odds a place 1,2,3

• Handicaps with 16 to 21 runners (inclusive) – 1/5 odds a place 1,2,3,4

• Handicaps with 22 or more runners – 1/4 odds a place 1,2,3,4

All bookmakers must display on their boards whether they are betting each way or to win only

A switch to more forceful tactics saw Magistery making all at Carlisle 10 days ago and she warrants respect in her follow-up bid. However, this Class 4 event looks more competitive and a 6lb penalty may be enough to find out Michael Dods’ filly. With that in mind, last-time-out Catterick winner MAGIC BOX gets the vote. The daughter of Showcasing scored with enough in hand to suggest that a 7lb rise is workable. Nursery debutantes Aspiral and Radiance are others of interest. totewin: Magic Box

TODAY’S JOCKEY TO WATCH - CLIFFORD LEE

Lee’s partnership with trainer Karl Burke has been reaping rich dividends for both men for a while now and last year’s Ayr Gold Cup win on Burke’s Lethal Levi was a notable career milestone on the way to his first Group 1 success on Venetian Sun in last month’s Prix Morny at Deauville. The jockey’s terrific year continued with victory in last weekend’s Group 2 Champagne Stakes at Doncaster on Aylin and while retained rider James Doyle was on Karl Burke’s Fallen Angel at Leopardstown last weekend, it was Lee who was on board the trainer’s two other big-race winners at Leopardstown and the Curragh, Convergent and Alparsian. The jockey has several fancied rides on today’s card and looks sure to be back tomorrow with Burke likely to have runners in all the big races on Gold Cup day 10% SUCCESS RATE AT AYR OVER THE LAST 5 YEARS 13 WINS FROM 129 RIDES

TODAY’S TRAINER TO WATCH - KARL BURKE

Middleham based Burke saddled a remarkable 1-2-3 in last year’s Ladbrokes Ayr Gold Cup with Lethal Levi, Silky Wilkie and Korker with the trainer bagging the race for the first time this century after wins in 1994 and 1998 for Daring Destiny (Jason Tate) and Always Alight (John Egan). The Burke yard’s fortunes have hardly waned ever since that day a year ago with top class performances from a host of stable stars including Fallen Angel and that now multiple Group 1 winning filly was successful at the recent Irish Champions Weekend alongside winning stable companions Convergent and Alparsian. Burke also had a juvenile Group 2 success at Doncaster’s St Leger meeting with Aylin and is well represented here at Ayr both today and tomorrow

THE BRITISH EBF STALLIONS

HARRY ROSEBERY STAKES (CLASS 1) (LISTED RACE)

RACE DESCRIPTION

Listed races are high-class and only bettered by a Group 1, 2 or 3 contest. In effect, it is an intermediate level; many of the runners in this five-furlong contest for two-year-olds will be using this race as a springboard to even better things. Initially weight is allocated according to sex, before penalties are given to horses that have previously won at this level or above. These penalties range from 3lb for a Listed success to 5lb for a Pattern race victory

RACE DESCRIPTION

This race is a six-furlong handicap race for three-year-olds and upwards. The majority of handicaps are designed for horses from with a specific ratings band but this particular race has no rating restrictions attached to it which allows horses with a higher rating to take part. Despite having no rating restrictions attached to it the higher rated horses must still concede weight to their lower rated rivals, which tend to make open handicaps very competitive races.

With both the sire and dam having won on heavy ground, KEATS HOUSE should not be inconvenienced by soft ground and he can follow up under a 6lb penalty for his comfortable victory at Musselburgh on Monday. A consistent sort throughout the summer and a respectable third at Sandown most recently, Atmosphere can give the selection most to think about, along with another recent Musselburgh winner Golden Valour, who is 4lb well-in on this occasion.

NATIVE HONEY cosily got off the mark over 7f at this track last month and a 3lb rise might underestimate his authority that day. The son of Dawn Approach shouldn’t have any issues with this extra furlong and will prove to be a tough nut to crack. Mister Invincible bounced back to form when making the frame at Newcastle recently and with Daniel Tudhope back on board, he has to be respected.
