Ayr Racecard - Monday 12th August

Page 1

Welcome to Ayr Racecourse for our second meeting here in August.

Whether you are a first time racegoer or a seasoned racing enthusiast, I hope you have an enjoyable experience with us today.

I’d like to thank our owners and trainers for choosing to run their horses here today and I wish all connections the very best of luck and sincerely hope you have a successful day and return again in the future.

Our 2yo races frequently showcase some very talented future stars, last years winner of our Novice Fillies Stakes Frankophone went on to prevail in a Listed Race at Goodwood having previously been second in a Group 3 race at York.

Looking ahead, the Virgin Bet Ayr Gold Cup is on the horizon. Taking place from 19th – 21st September, it’s Scotland’s biggest flat meeting with the most fantastic racing and entertainment. You won’t want to miss it.

I would also like to thank our racegoers for attending today and hope you enjoy your day Also please feel free to visit Western House Hotel after racing where Paul Skully has his live acoustic set from 5.30pm till 8.30pm.

I wish you a safe journey home and hope to see you back at Ayr soon.

9 Form guide 10 Age 11 Weight 12 Stalls Position

Included in the form guide below each horse is a form rating, calculated from the horse’s previous performances, taking into account a number of variables such as finishing position, distance won/beaten by, horses beaten/beaten by, weight carried, race time (compared with the standard time), going allowance, number of days since that performance, etc.

Horses which have not raced will not have a form rating, as may some horses which have raced but not recently in Britain or their performances to-date have not yet merited a rating.

Brando was the winner of the Ayr Gold Cup on Saturday, 17th September, 2016

HOW TO BET

1. Pick your Racehorse, look around for the best odds on course, try to proffer the correct stake money for your wager

2. Ask the Bookmaker for your bet by naming the horse. The bookmaker will repeat your bet to his clerk, correct bookmaker if he makes a mistake and receive your Betting Ticket as a receipt for your bet.

3. If your horse wins, give your Betting Ticket to the bookmaker, check your winnings.

4. Check with the bookmaker when placing a bet, the Place Terms. Place Betting, not all on course bookmakers accept each way bets, ie. for a win or a place.

5. In the unlikely event of a dispute after adhering to this procedure, the bookmaker will tell the punter to approach the Ring Official, who will advise you as to your rights.

6. Some course bookmakers have minimum stakes.e.g. £1, £5, £10 but small backers are catered for in the racecourse Betting Shops.

EACH WAY BETTING

In conjunction with The RCA, the bookmakers have introduced standard each-way terms. Bookmakers will provide these terms, or better, when offering each-way betting.

• Fewer than 3 runners - all on to win

• 3 or 4 runners – 1/5 odds a place 1,2

• 5 – 7 runners (inclusive) – 1/4 odds a place 1,2

• 8 or more runners – 1/5 odds a place 1,2,3

• Handicaps with 12 to 15 runners (inclusive) – 1/4 odds a place 1,2,3

• Handicaps with 16 to 21 runners (inclusive) – 1/5 odds a place 1,2,3,4

• Handicaps with 22 or more runners – 1/4 odds a place 1,2,3,4

All bookmakers must display on their boards whether they are betting each way or to win only

SHINING PEARL looked outpaced over 6f on her debut at Thirsk, so it was no surprise that she found improvement when upped to 7f at Newmarket recently. Karl Burke’s charge ought to have learnt plenty after showing signs of inexperience when hitting the front that day and this looks a good opportunity to break her maiden. Duty First is likely to progress having shaped with promise on her first start at Newmarket, while South Road can benefit from a step up in trip. totewin: Shining Pearl toteeachway: Duty First

TODAY’S JOCKEY TO WATCH - CONNOR BEASLEY

Beasley had yesterday off after 6 rides at Redcar on Saturday but the jockey’s been as busy as ever this season with plenty of winners from his main employer Michael Dods. The jockey had a double at our final July meeting here with Roaring Ralph and Symbol Of Strength and he teamed up with Dods for a winner at Glorious Goodwood the very next day with the rapidly improving Tatterstall. Beasley also teams up regularly with Ed Bethell and John Mackie and the last-named handler has supplied the jockey with two winners apiece on Distinction and Dazy Mazy this year

TODAY’S TRAINER TO WATCH - KARL BURKE

Middleham based Burke came through a life-saving operation for bowel cancer last year and the 61 year-old has been back plying his trade with big-race winners continuing to put his historic Spigot Lodge yard on the wider racing map. Burke’s Fallen Angel gave Ayrshire jockey Danny Tudhope his first Classic winner in the Irish 1000 Guineas this year and the yard’s juvenile strength was emphasised by two winners at Royal Ascot thanks to Shareholder and Leovanni. Burke had 6 winners in 6 days between Sunday and Friday last week and the 82,000 guineas filly Shining Pearl looks to go one better than her recent second at Newmarket in today’s novice race over 7 furlongs at 2.25

RACE RESULT DISTANCES

Dual Ayr winner NOVAK returned with a solid second at Newcastle 10 days ago and he makes plenty of appeal racing off an unchanged mark. Any improvement for that 140-day layoff should make Iain Jardine’s gelding tough to beat and he shades the verdict ahead of Monhammer. Linda Perratt’s gelding drops in class he and ought to be a real threat down to his last winning mark. Unexposed three-year-old Sir Garfield posted another solid effort over C&D on Saturday and is another to bear in mind.

Pol Roger has been knocking on the door at this level in recent months and another prominent showing is forecast from Michael Dods’ charge. However, a 2lb higher mark will only make life more difficult for the son of Churchill and the lightly-raced AVIEMORE looks open to more improvement. The three-year-old opened his account over C&D in mid-July and a 5lb rise is unlikely to be the ceiling of his ability. Fellow in-form rival Faylaq also enters the reckoning. totewin: Aviemore toteeachway: Pol Roger

Having posted several creditable efforts in defeat this season, compensation could be headed in ATOMISE’s direction. The Ardad mare is sure to appreciate this drop into 0-60 company, with first-time blinkers expected to eke out some improvement. The biggest threat may emerge from last-time-out course winner Pembrokeshire, who is only 2lb higher for that narrow victory. Ignac Lamar is now 5lb below his last winning mark and market support would be interesting on the back of a wind operation.

RAMON DI LORIA: Following its run on 29/7/2024 it was reported that the horse lost one hind and both fore shoes.

IVA BATT: Following its run on 10/8/2024 it was reported that the horse was restless in the stalls.

INANNA: Following its run on 13/7/2024 it was reported that the horse ran too free.

Probable S.P’s: 7-2 Ramon di Loria (IRE), The Gay Blade (GB), 7-1 Inanna (IRE), Crocodile Power (IRE), 9-1 See My Baby Jive (GB), 12-1 Iva Batt (IRE), 14-1 Shatin Venture (IRE), 16-1 Piper’s Fort (IRE), 20-1 Onthebunny (GB)

Having dead-heated with a subsequent winner for first place at Hamilton last month, THE GAY BLADE ticks plenty of the right boxes on his follow-up bid. A 2lb higher mark looks on the lenient side for Iain Jardine’s gelding and a sixth career victory could be on the cards. Softer ground conditions could see Crocodile Power’s chance increase and the six-year-old must enter calculations, while an improved bid is forecast from Ramon Di Loria, who will appreciate this return to 6f.

A return to 1m2f proved just the tonic for C&D winner WE STILL BELIEVE last month. The Lawman gelding scored with enough in hand to suggest that a 4lb higher mark is workable and a brace could be on the cards. The unexposed Dingwall opened his account over the same track and trip and the three-year-old is a viable alternative to the selection, ahead of five-time course scorer Ayr Poet. totewin: We Still Believe
