Ayr Racecard - Saturday 10th August

Page 1

Welcome to Ayr Racecourse for Scottish Sun Ladies Night and what promises to be an exciting evening with lots happening on and off the track to hopefully ensure everyone has an enjoyable and unforgettable night.

I’d like to welcome back the Scottish Sun as sponsors this evening. We have a long association with the Scottish Sun dating back to 2007 and for many years they sponsored our June Saturday They are great supporters of racing and we are also fortunate to have their very own Racing Columnist Jim Delahunt as part of the team here at Ayr.

As part of our fabulous style awards one lucky winner will receive a £500 holiday voucher from our very good friends at Thorne Travel and VIP Hospitality at the Virgin Bet Ayr Gold Cup Ladies Day on 20 September plus two fabulous tickets to see Janet Jackson in the News Scotland suite at the Hydro courtesy of the Scottish Sun. Keep an eye out for our spotters and if you are lucky enough to be chosen then you could be winning this great prize. Full details are on page 5.

After racing we have some top entertainment with Pussycat Doll Kimberley Wyatt and her Don’t Cha afterparty set which is guaranteed to light up the Ayrshire Suite.

Remember too that the Ayr Gold Cup is not far away 3 days of the best racing and entertainment in Scotland from 19-21 September Tickets are available at www.ayr-racecourse.co.uk

I’d also like to thank the team here at Ayr Racecourse for their hard work and dedication which helps makes nights like tonight that bit more special.

Last but not least thank you for your attendance tonight and I hope you all have an enjoyable evening.

Included in the form guide below each horse is a form rating, calculated from the horse’s previous performances, taking into account a number of variables such as finishing position, distance won/beaten by, horses beaten/beaten by, weight carried, race time (compared with the standard time), going allowance, number of days since that performance, etc.

Horses which have not raced will not have a form rating, as may some horses which have raced but not recently in Britain or their performances to-date have not yet merited a rating.

HOW TO BET

1. Pick your Racehorse, look around for the best odds on course, try to proffer the correct stake money for your wager

2. Ask the Bookmaker for your bet by naming the horse. The bookmaker will repeat your bet to his clerk, correct bookmaker if he makes a mistake and receive your Betting Ticket as a receipt for your bet.

3. If your horse wins, give your Betting Ticket to the bookmaker, check your winnings.

4. Check with the bookmaker when placing a bet, the Place Terms. Place Betting, not all on course bookmakers accept each way bets, ie. for a win or a place.

5. In the unlikely event of a dispute after adhering to this procedure, the bookmaker will tell the punter to approach the Ring Official, who will advise you as to your rights.

6. Some course bookmakers have minimum stakes.e.g. £1, £5, £10 but small backers are catered for in the racecourse Betting Shops.

EACH WAY BETTING

In conjunction with The RCA, the bookmakers have introduced standard each-way terms. Bookmakers will provide these terms, or better, when offering each-way betting.

• Fewer than 3 runners - all on to win

• 3 or 4 runners – 1/5 odds a place 1,2

• 5 – 7 runners (inclusive) – 1/4 odds a place 1,2

• 8 or more runners – 1/5 odds a place 1,2,3

• Handicaps with 12 to 15 runners (inclusive) – 1/4 odds a place 1,2,3

• Handicaps with 16 to 21 runners (inclusive) – 1/5 odds a place 1,2,3,4

• Handicaps with 22 or more runners – 1/4 odds a place 1,2,3,4

All bookmakers must display on their boards whether they are betting each way or to win only

ZUFFOLO looked value for more than the winning margin when getting up narrowly to score over C&D last month, and a 6lb rise for that success seems manageable. Michael Dods’ charge gets the vote ahead of comfortable Newcastle scorer DC Flyer and Parisiac, who should improve plenty on his first run for new connections at Hamilton last month. Placed over C&D on his penultimate outing and a capable sort on his day, Cuban Rock is entitled to be thereabouts as well.

AYR GOLD CUP LEGENDS - TRAINER KEVIN RYAN

Yorkshire based Ryan has accumulated a remarkable tally of FIVE wins in the Ayr Gold Cup, his first success coming with the Jamie Spencer ridden Advanced in 2007 and the latest with Bielsa under Kevin Stott in 2021. In between those successes, Ryan struck with Our Jonathan and Captain Ramius in 2011 and 2012 with Brando’s win in 2016 coming under current stable jockey Tom Eaves. Five wins for the late David Nicholls between 2000 and 2008 mean that just two yards have been responsible for 10 of the 24 Ayr Gold Cup winners this century and all the indications point to Ryan taking his total to 6 and possibly beyond before too long. His current stable star is Royal Ascot Group 1 winner Inisherin and the trainer has several possibilities for this year’s Gold Cup.

AYR GOLD CUP LEGENDS - JOCKEY FRANKIE DETTORI

Despite announcing his retirement from racing in Britain at the end of 2023 riding superstar Dettori remains the only licensed jockey to have won TWO Ayr Gold Cups. The Italian’s new licence in America has opened up the possibility of Frankie coming back to race again in some of the top races in Britain and, unless one of the other 15 jockeys still riding can add to their single Gold Cup success at Ayr this season, the distinction of having ridden two Gold Cup winners will remain the sole property of Dettori into 2025 Frankie won back-to-back Ayr Gold Cups in 2009 and 2010 the first on Jimmy Styles for trainer Clive Cox and the second on Redford for the late David “Dandy” Nicholls and along with Gold Cup winners Franny Norton, John Egan and Joe Fanning, he’s still riding well into his 50s.

A tentative vote goes to SHIFTER, who was a taking winner over C&D in May, and was last seen running well over further in an apprentice handicap at York. Dropping back in trip looks like a good move for the five-year-old, and she is narrowly preferred to the consistent Helter Skelter, as well as She’s Got Bottle, who has moved stables since showing terrific form earlier in the season. Others to note include Eeetee, Ravenscraig Castle and Titainium. totewin: Shifter toteeachway: She’s Got Bottle

This looks a very open contest but a chance is taken on SOUND OF IONA, who was beaten just under a length over C&D last time and she can go one better today. Jim Goldie’s charge runs off an unchanged mark today and Amy Waugh’s 5lb claim makes the eight-year-old a very solid proposition. Eternal Sunshine looked ahead of the handicapper when scoring in comfortable fashion over C&D last month and a 6lb hike may not be out of her reach, while this extra yardage can benefit Distillate.

This appears to be a good opportunity for BRAES OF DOUNE to go one better than his second over C&D last month and gain compensation. The six-year-old was sent off favourite when beaten just a head on that occasion and he can offer another bold bid off just 1lb higher in the ratings. Zebra Star won over C&D in May off 2lb higher and she commands respect if able to repeat that form, while Vince Le Prince is also on an exploitable mark.

DECLARED RUNNERS 13 2023: CABINET MAKER (IRE) 4 9 9 Andrew Mullen 10-3 (Rebecca Menzies) 9 ran Hood worn first time by No. 9. Blinkers worn first time by No. 2. Sheepskin Cheek Pieces worn first time by No. 12. Tongue Strap worn by No. 1, 4. Hood, Tongue Strap worn by No. 11. Sheepskin Cheek Pieces worn by No. 3, 7, 8. Stewards Note:

OUR NOBLE LORD: Following its run on 3/7/2024 it was reported that the horse hung left-handed throughout. VISITANT: Following its run on 2/8/2024 it was reported that the horse suffered interference in running. LANG TOON LAD: Following its run on 2/8/2024 it was reported that the horse suffered interference in running. Probable S.P’s: 9-2 Laudable (GB), 5-1 Paco’s Pride (GB), 6-1 Millbuie (GB), 15-2 Visitant (GB), 10-1 Strike Rate (IRE), 12-1 Lunacy (GB), 14-1 Anjician (IRE), 18-1 Lincoln Royal (IRE), 28-1 Royal Countess (GB), Lang Toon Lad (IRE), 33-1 Leveche (IRE), 40-1 Going To The Moon (IRE), Our Noble Lord (GB)

VISITANT was only beaten a half length off 3lb lower over 1m2f at Newcastle last Friday and a repeat of that effort would see him go close once again. David Thompson’s 11-year-old was slowly away before staying on well on that occasion and with a more polished display today, he could take the beating. The consistent Paco’s Pride rarely runs a bad race and she is likely to pose the biggest questions to the selection, while Millbuie can also make the frame.

totewin: Visitant
