Horses which have not raced will not have a form rating, as may some horses which have raced but not recently in Britain or their performances to-date have not yet merited a rating.

RACE RESULT DISTANCES

This can go the way of RORY, who was unlucky when not getting the clearest of runs inside the final furlong when looking to challenge over this distance at Newcastle recently. Jim Goldie’s charge is taken to overturn form with Pop Star (first) from their meeting here the time before, with the six-year-old 2lb better off for finishing half-a-length behind in third. Huddle Up and Woobay are capable of being in the shake-up as well.

TODAY’S JOCKEY TO WATCH - JOANNA MASON

Joanna’s been striking at a very healthy 20% over the past fortnight and she’s back at Ayr today with an excellent record at the track which includes big-race success at the Gold Cup Festival on Yorkshire Lady in the 2022 running of the Kilkerran Cup. The grand-daughter of trainer Mick Easterby and niece of his joint-trainer and son David was a successful amateur for 14 years before turning apprentice in 2020 and success has followed success since she rode out her claim in May 2022. Mason spent the early part of this week riding winners at Pontefract, Thirsk and Newbury from just 6 rides and her have saddle-will travel approach brings her here for one ride on Dawn Of Liberation at 4.10

TODAY’S TRAINER TO WATCH - LINDA PERRATT

Linda used to train just across the road from here at the now demolished Cree Lodge yard but she now trains on the old family farm at Jackton near East Kilbride and is enjoying her best winter and summer campaigns for several years. New owners have brought new horses for Linda to train and the likes of Moon Flight The Caltonian and Monhammer have been keeping the flag flying in some style. Linda’s runners today are dual Newcastle winner Henery Hawk (2.30), stable favourite Retirement Beckons (3.35) and Reveal (5.20) with the last-named 3 year-old having dropped from 72 to today’s 57 since arriving from Ralph Beckett’s yard.

AYR GOLD CUP TRIAL,

CLASS 3, 6F £30,000

MONDAY JULY 15

We stage the third running of the Ayr Gold Cup Trial, the highlight of our card on Glasgow Fair Family Day on Monday 15 July, and this year generously sponsored in celebration of Fergie and Myra Happel.

The race was introduced for horses aged 3 years and upwards rated between 71 – 90.

We think it creates the ideal platform for horses progressing through the handicap ranks and encourage them to go on and run in either the Virgin Bet Ayr Gold, Silver or Bronze Handicaps.

Last years running attracted a strong field of 16 and many of the entrants went on to compete later in September with Tinto, trained by Michael Dodds achieving 2nd in the Ayr Silver Cup and Jordan Electrics trained by Jim Goldie finishing 3rd in the Bronze Cup.

Ayr Racecourse Managing Director David Brown said “I was delighted with the second running of the Ayr Gold Cup Trial. It was a super competitive race with many of the runners going on to contest the Ayr Bronze, Silver and Gold Cups.

“I would hope that this year’s renewal builds on last years success and with £30,000 prize money available on a Monday afternoon I’m sure we will see a fiercely contested race.”

A stunning trophy previously run for a race named the Squadron Gallop will be held by the winning owner for a year.

SPANISH SAINT: Following its run on 16/5/2024 it was reported that the jockey felt that the horse lost action. QUEENSBURY LODGE: Following its run on 8/6/2024 it was reported that the horse spread its right fore shoe.

Probable S.P’s: 3-1 Coconut Bay (GB), 7-2 Big Blue Boy (IRE), 4-1 Haalim (GB), 8-1 Amazing Winnie (IRE), 10-1 Zumaaty (IRE), 12-1 Lope de Rueda (GB), 14-1 Loom Large (IRE), 16-1 Retirement Beckons (GB), Wheres The Crumpet (GB), 20-1 Spanish Saint (IRE), 25-1 Too Much Too Young (GB), 33-1 Showmethewayhome (IRE), 50-1 Lang Toon Lad (IRE), Queensbury Lodge (GB) 2ND

None can match the recent consistency of COCONUT BAY entering this contest, and she may have travelled too strongly for her own good when third over 7f here last month. Going back up to a mile should help her settle, and the five-year-old gets the vote ahead of Big Blue Boy (fifth), who has half-a-length to find from that contest, as well as Haalim, who has strong claims on his penultimate second at Wolverhampton.

DAWN OF LIBERATION: Following its run on 26/6/2024 it was reported that the horse slipped leaving the stalls.

Probable S.P’s: 7-2 Elim (IRE), 4-1 Nikovo (GB), 9-2 Diamondonthehill (GB), 15-2 Regheeb (IRE), 10-1 Benacre (IRE), Titan Rock (GB), Little Empire (IRE), 12-1 Abduction (FR), Cavallo Pazzo (IRE), 16-1 Dawn of Liberation (IRE)

Still unexposed, ELIM has made good progress and, not disgraced when sixth in the Kensington Palace at Royal Ascot, the Edward Bethell-trained filly appeals strongly dropping in class here. That is not to underestimate any of the opposition in this competitive handicap, where the top two on the racecard, Regheeb and Nikovo, help set a decent standard. Titan Rock is also surely better than his latest run at York last time out and can figure with a revival.

BRAES OF DOUNE tends to go well at this venue and, having breezed to success in this race last year, the Jim Goldie-trained gelding is a strong contender for back-to-back wins off just 5lb higher. Fellow C&D winner Visitant is well handicapped on old form and the admirable veteran, who posted a near miss over 1m6f at Redcar last month, also rates a key player back at this trip. Carvalhal completes the shortlist.
