Our feature race, and our first Class 1 Listed race of the Flat season, the Fitzdares British EBF Rothesay Stakes over the 1m2f distance, has attracted an impressive array of quality fillies and mares. Past winners have gone on to achieve Group 1 Success, including Nezwah who won the Pretty Polly stakes at the Curragh and last year’s winner Al Husn, who impressively won the Group 1 Nassau Stakes at Goodwood. This year’s field is similarly impeccably bred, so keep your eye on the future to see where today’s winner appears.

HOW TO BET

1. Pick your Racehorse, look around for the best odds on course, try to proffer the correct stake money for your wager

2. Ask the Bookmaker for your bet by naming the horse. The bookmaker will repeat your bet to his clerk, correct bookmaker if he makes a mistake and receive your Betting Ticket as a receipt for your bet.

3. If your horse wins, give your Betting Ticket to the bookmaker, check your winnings.

4. Check with the bookmaker when placing a bet, the Place Terms. Place Betting, not all on course bookmakers accept each way bets, ie. for a win or a place.

5. In the unlikely event of a dispute after adhering to this procedure, the bookmaker will tell the punter to approach the Ring Official, who will advise you as to your rights.

6. Some course bookmakers have minimum stakes.e.g. £1, £5, £10 but small backers are catered for in the racecourse Betting Shops.

The French-born handler trains from the historic Coombelands Stables at Pulborough in East Sussex, once the base of Classic winning trainer Guy Harwood who trained, amongst others, Dancing Brave, Ela Mana Mou, Warning, To Agori Mou, Kalaglow and Rousillon. Menusier sends last May’s Longchamp Group 1 fourth (of 10) Heartache Tonight for the £47,000 Rothesay Stakes at 3.20 today with Ayr’s leading jockey Paul Mulrennan booked to add a little local knowledge to the plan to land a Listed prize which is building up quite a reputation for throwing up future Group 1 winners. The trainer’s excellent recent form continued with a double at Newbury on Friday and after Ayr this afternoon, he saddles 3 more runners at Kempton this evening.

Shadwell Stud’s retained rider travels north for two rides here this afternoon, his latest foray to Ayrshire coming exactly a year since he won today’s Rothesay Stakes in the old Hamdan Al Maktoum colours on subsequent Group 1 Nassau Stakes winner Al Husn. Crowley rides Shadwell’s second time out juvenile Mutamanni in the blue and white Shadwell silks in our opening 6 furlongs maiden at 2.20 before taking an outside ride for Jessie Harrington in the big race at 3.20, Snowcapped. The 4 year-old won a maiden and a handicap last spring before finding Listed and Group 3 company too tough but the trainer’s horses have been in great form and the yard had a Listed winner at Navan on Saturday with Birdman.
