Whether you are a first-time racegoer or a seasoned racing enthusiast, I hope you have an enjoyable experience with us today.

I’d like to thank our owners and trainers for choosing to run their horses here today and I wish all connections the very best of luck and sincerely hope you have a successful day and return again in the future.

Our feature race today is the Golf Inn Class 2 Hurdle race at 2.45, it’s a high-class way to start our 2024 jumps year.

I also wish to congratulate everyone past and present who have been involved in our partnership with Ayrshire Cancer Support, be it through fundraising or any of the other activities to raise awareness. Ayr Racecourse recently won the RCA Showcase award at a glittering ceremony held at Aintree for best Community Engagement regarding our association with Ayrshire Cancer Support. The competition included some of the most high-profile racecourses in the UK and it is testimony to the quality of engagement that resulting in Ayr receiving this accolade.

TODAY’S JOCKEY TO WATCH - SEAN QUINLAN Sean comes in for some excellent rides today including two likely favourites for long-time ally Nicky Richards and the jockey was in double-winning form at the last meeting here with successes on Soft Risk (Richards) and Artic Row (Nick Alexander). The rider reached a notable landmark with his 500th career winner here at Ayr last year and is also a Scottish Grand National winning jockey thanks to Takingrisks in 2019. Marown (2nd) and Aubis Walk (won) have both run here recently and hold excellent chances at 1.45 and 2.15.

TODAY’S TRAINER TO WATCH - NICK ALEXANDER The Kinneston trainer makes a habit of having multiple winners here at Ayr and his 4-timer at the last meeting of 2023 here was only one short of his record haul of 5 in one day at Ayr back in March 2022. Nick’s horses have continued in excellent form since that pre-Christmas card and he saddled a winner at Kelso on Friday, followed by a good third from Ned Tanner at Haydock 24 hours later. Nick has runners today in the first 6 races.

Second here in a better race over hurdles last month, he has only had two starts since April 2022 and might be reaching his peak ahead of his first start over the larger obstacles.

However, preference is for JOSHUA DES FLOS, who sets the standard with a rating of 122. The six-year-old has hit the frame in both starts over C&D and could prove tough to beat. HERITIER filled second place on his return to chasing at Sedgefield on Boxing Day and that followed a couple of good efforts over timber. The son of Fuisse could be hard to stop here from what is clearly a workable mark. That said, Gandhi Maker also hit the crossbar on his most recent outing at Newcastle and the eight-year-old should not be underestimated in this company, while Fia Fuinidh is another with strong form claims.
