Don’t forget our next meeting... SCOTTISH SUN LADIES NIGHT - SATURDAY 12TH AUGUST Gates Open 4.15pm, First Race 6.07pm We look forward to welcoming you back!

The Ayr Executive would like to thank today’s sponsors for their very generous support. We wish them and their guests an enjoyable day with us.David Brown Managing Director
ENTRIES for this year’s Virgin Bet Ayr Gold Cup close a week tomorrow, Tuesday August 15, with the £180,000 feature due to be run over the 6 furlongs straight track here at Ayr on Saturday September 23.

Summerghand landed the famous old trophy for trainer David O’Meara and locally born rider Danny Tudhope 12 months ago and this year’s renewal is again expected to be contested by a maximum 25 of the top handicap sprinters in the country
The same day’s Silver Cup and the previous day’s Bronze Cup give the next 50 horses in the handicap a chance to run for excellent prize money as well, and the weights for the big race will be made public on Wednesday August 23, with final declarations due on Thursday September 21 when the fields for all three races will be made public.
Last year’s win for the 8-yearold Summerghand was a second success in the race for David O’Meara, the trainer having landed the Gold Cup with Louis The Pious in 2014 and Irvine-born Tudhope was joining a jockeys’ roll of honour which contains some of the most famous riders in racing history
Major names like the legendary Stirling-born multiple champion jockey Willie Carson NEVER managed to win the race but Willie’s grandson William Carson rode the winner in 2008 on the David Nicholls trained Regal Parade.
Before Nahaarr won in 2020 for William Haggas, the last Newmarket trained winner of the race had been Alan Bailey’s Not So Silly in 1987 and that horse’s long-retired jockey, Gary Bardwell, was recently spotted at Ayr leading up a runner for his current employer Saeed Bin Suroor who uses Gary as a valued work-rider
Funfair Wane was the last horse to win the race twice having scored in 2002 and 2004 and retiring superstar rider Frankie Dettori won back-to-back running’s in 2009 and 2010 on Jimmy Styles and Redford, but it’s still early days as to whether the Italian jockey might have one final attempt at making it three before he hangs up his saddle in November
The last Scottish trained winner of the race was Nigel Angus’ Roman Warrior in 1975 but Jim Goldie, Iain Jardine, Linda Perratt, Mike Smith and Lucinda Russell could all be making entries next week and Jim has been successful in both the Silver Cup and the Bronze Cup in recent seasons.

A winner on Ayr Poet and a second place finish helped Paul Mulrennan close the gap on Joe Fanning at the top of the Ayr jockeys' championship to 4 points, with Joe adding a third place to his winning ride on Ski Angel in the finale for Mike Smith. Andrew Mullen rode a second successive Monday double at the track to move up to 40 points for the season with Jason Hart's winner and three third places keeping him 6 points away in fourth place.
Jim Goldie's terrific run of form had continued with a winner at York two days earlier with Baez and Ayr's reigning champion trainer had a winner with Ayr Poet and two second places to boost his seasonal tally to 98 points. Another double for bang in-form Iain Jardine took the Carrutherstown trainer on to 53 points and Mike Smith moved up to 4th place with a winner and a third.

The only change in the owners' table came with Helen Whillans adding a third with See My Baby Jive to add to the mare's three previous wins and move the owner into a clear 4th place.

He has won four times from 5f to 6f on ground varying from good to soft. Beaten 7l behind Mecca’s Angel at 20-1 when 9th of 19 on his latest outing in the Group 1 Coolmore Nunthorpe Stakes at York over 5f (good) last month. Drop back into handicaps should suit.

FORM RATINGS
Included in the form guide below each horse is a form rating, calculated from the horse’s previous performances, taking into account a number of variables such as finishing position, distance won/beaten by, horses beaten/beaten by, weight carried, race time (compared with the standard time), going allowance, number of days since that performance, etc.
Horses which have not raced will not have a form rating, as may some horses which have raced but not recently in Britain or their performances to-date have not yet merited a rating.
Brando was the winner of the Ayr Gold Cup on Saturday, 17th September, 2016.
HOW TO BET
1. Pick your Racehorse, look around for the best odds on course, try to proffer the correct stake money for your wager

Misemerald has won two of her three starts to date, with the latest of her victories coming over 6f at this track, and she should have no issues with the step back up in distance. However, she does have a 6lb penalty to shoulder, which may open the door for ROMAN SECRET The daughter of Holy Roman Emperor shaped with plenty of encouragement on her debut at Doncaster when second behind a subsequent winner, and she could take a step forward to strike. RACE RESULT DISTANCES
Turbo Command must enter calculations on his recent second over 7f here, but Alison Hamilton’s keen-going gelding may be worth taking on now upped to 1m. OUR DICKIE was somewhat underwhelming when weakening into seventh over C&D in handicap company last month, but the four-year-old has gone close to winning at classified stakes level on his last two attempts and rates as the most solid proposition. Retirement Beckons and Butterfly Island are viable alternatives on the ratings.

The consistent FLYAWAYDREAM was only beaten two lengths into third off this mark on his seasonal debut at Kempton a month ago and a reproduction of that level of form would make him hard to beat here. Theme Park was not at his very best at Ascot last time but is a player based on his third at Chester two starts ago, while Glasses Up is the pick of the remainder.

LADY CELIA made her second start for the Alan Brown yard a winning one as she scored by a length at Nottingham and, with the winning margin possibly downplaying her superiority over her rivals that day, she is fancied to go in, despite a 3lb rise. Wurkin Ninetofive could give her the most to think about, as she goes off the same rating as when third at Hamilton in this grade last month. Emeralds Pride makes the most appeal of the remainder, but she will need bounce back to form.

ICE SHADOW appeared to relish the underfoot conditions when making all at Nottingham recently and the four-year-old could take some stopping off only 5lb more here, with any further rain likely to aid his cause. Ayr Poet is effectively only 3lb higher than last Monday’s triumph over 1m here and Jim Goldie’s gelding, a previous C&D winner, can’t be taken lightly.
