We look forward to welcoming you back!

MACD electrical ltd T: 0141 764 3664

Welcome to Ayr Racecourse for our Unite Scotland Summer Saturday Raceday one of the highlights of the season here at Ayr and a fixture that mixes high quality racing with some terrific entertainment.

Today’s feature race is the Unite The Union Thanking Our Members EBF Land O’Burns Fillies’ Stakes, a Class 1 Listed race with £50,000 in prizemoney

We have a field of 10 with some highly rated fillies in the line up and many leading stables in Britain and Ireland represented. Our five furlong course record was set in this race in 2008 by Look Busy in a time of 55.68 seconds and this is traditionally one of the fastest races of the year at the track.

The main supporting race is the Unite Scotland’s Farewell To Pat Rafferty Handicap, a Class 2 race for the Johnstone Rose Bowl. This is a really competitive contest with the 11 runners having won 75 races between them.

Unite Scotland are our principal sponsors and I’d like to thank them for their generous support and I hope their members who are with us here today have an enjoyable time.

Thanks also to the European Breeders Fund and the Bridgend Motor Group for their sponsorship and to David MacDonald who celebrates his 50th birthday by sponsoring our 4.14pm race. Happy Birthday David!

Today sees the start of Racing Staff Week and to mark it we staging a charity race following the last race proper where all nine runners will be ridden by stable staff. This race will raise funds for Racing Welfare and the Scottish Bookmakers Association has kindly donated £500 to the charity A big thank you to them and good luck to all the participants in the race.

Can I remind you that racegoers have a chance to win a fabulous Holiday For Two to Barbados this afternoon details on how you can enter are included on pages 10 and 11 of this racecard.

Our after racing entertainment is headlined by Marvin Humes who plays a DJ set in the Ayrshire Suite.

I’d like to convey my thanks to the Ayr Racecourse team for their hard work leading up to this weekend which helps make this fixture the success that it is.

Finally I’d like to thank you all for attending Ayr today and hope the Unite Scotland Summer Raceday is an enjoyable and successful afternoon and evening for you all.

FORM RATINGS

Included in the form guide below each horse is a form rating, calculated from the horse’s previous performances, taking into account a number of variables such as finishing position, distance won/beaten by, horses beaten/beaten by, weight carried, race time (compared with the standard time), going allowance, number of days since that performance, etc.

Horses which have not raced will not have a form rating, as may some horses which have raced but not recently in Britain or their performances to-date have not yet merited a rating.

Brando was the winner of the Ayr Gold Cup on Saturday, 17th September, 2016.

HOW TO BET

1. Pick your Racehorse, look around for the best odds on course, try to proffer the correct stake money for your wager

2. Ask the Bookmaker for your bet by naming the horse. The bookmaker will repeat your bet to his clerk, correct bookmaker if he makes a mistake and receive your Betting Ticket as a receipt for your bet.

4. Check with the bookmaker when placing a bet, the Place Terms. Place Betting, not all on course bookmakers accept each way bets, ie. for a win or a place.

5. In the unlikely event of a dispute after adhering to this procedure, the bookmaker will tell the punter to approach the Ring Official, who will advise you as to your rights.

6. Some course bookmakers have minimum stakes.e.g. £1, £5, £10 but small backers are catered for in the racecourse Betting Shops.

Beyond Borders, Golden Trick and A Girl Named Ivy are respected newcomers and it will be interesting to see what the market makes of their chances, but it’s hard to look beyond JEHANGEER A full-brother to the yard’s dual Group 1-winning sprinter Hello Youmzain, Kevin Ryan’s colt showed promise on his introduction when second to Army Ethos, who gave that form a huge boost when going very close in the Coventry at Royal Ascot on Tuesday. Our Havana’s debut form is also working out well.

The handicapper has given some respite to Strong Johnson, who should prove more competitive now 4lb lower than his recent fourth-placed finish at Catterick. Preference, however, is for last month’s York winner KUWAIT CITY John Butler’s gelding impressed with the amount of ground he made up from an uncompromising position and a 6lb rise may underestimate him. Sir Titus is only 1lb higher than his runner-up effort on reappearance at Beverley in April and completes the shortlist.

B Associates has been in cracking form this year and he has to be respected on the same mark as when he was only denied a four-timer by a nose at Doncaster last time. However, the Grant Tuer-trained RUN CMC is preferred, as he was only touched off by a short head at Wetherby over this trip latest and, with a better break this time, he could be the one to beat off 2lb higher. KIHAVAH kept on well to score over 1m 4f at York on his most recent run and the six-year-old could prove tough to beat in his bid for a four-timer, despite a 7lb rise for the aforementioned success. He preceded that triumph with victories over that same C&D and over hurdles, and it seems he is yet to find his ceiling. It’s Good To Laugh improved to finish third in the Chester Plate last month and is feared most off 1lb higher, while Scampi is another to consider.

ROYAL ACLAIM looked potentially the next sprinting superstar following her Listed success at York last summer and while things haven’t gone entirely to plan since, James Tate’s filly appears to have been found a suitable place to get back to winning ways. The four-year-old was inconvenienced by where she raced on her return in the Temple Stakes at Haydock and is worth another chance.

Treasure Trove is entitled to progress from her comeback at Cork last month, while others to note include Nymphadora and Silent Words.

PAPA COCKTAIL: Following its run on 11/6/2023 it was reported that the horse was unsuited by the high draw

Probable S.P’s: 9-2 Novak (GB), 7-1 Papa Cocktail (IRE), 15-2 Summer Sands (GB), 8-1 Cold Stare (IRE), Newyorkstateofmind (GB), 17-2 Huddle Up (IRE), 10-1 One Last Hug (GB), 20-1 Our Absent Friends (IRE), 22-1 Golden Apollo (GB), 25-1 Wrecked It Ralph (GB), 28-1 Black Friday (GB), 33-1 Slainte Mhath (GB), 80-1 The Caltonian (GB) 2ND

NOVAK arrives at the top of his game and a hat-trick looks a distinct possibility off only 4lb higher. Cold Stare ran one of his better races this season when runner-up at Leicester last month and the eight-year-old is feared most racing off the same mark in this contest. Slainte Mhath rated as a progressive sort on turf prior to her ninth-placed finish on the all-weather earlier in the month, and she shouldn’t be underestimated now back on the grass.

Bonito Cavalo is sure to be popular for Jim Goldie after some good efforts in defeat over shorter, but better value may lie with another stepping up in trip in the shape of SAM’S CALL The selection was noted keeping on well at the finish when beaten less than two lengths in a 6f handicap at Nottingham last week, and tackling 7f for the first time can unlock some improvement. Jkr Cobbler has obvious claims after his close-up third in a C&D handicap earlier in the month.
