James has been sending out winners from his Langholm stables for many years and comes here this afternoon with several runners. These include Nikgarde off what looks like an attractive mark in the Virgin Bet Handicap Hurdle at 12.35pm. He also gives Community Rebel his second start under rules in the Virgin Bet Novices’ Hurdle at 12.00pm and Lemoine is an interesting runner in the Virgin Bet “Junior” National Hunt Flat Race at 2.10pm.

The Larne based trainer has been coming to Ayr for many seasons and has enjoyed a lot of success in particular with his younger horses. In recent years many of those have been owned by Simon Munir and Isaac Souede and his runners this afternoon include Largy Shark who runs in these famous colours in the opening Virgin Bet Fives Novices Hurdle as does Carnfunnock who makes his hurdles debut at 1.10pm after winning a National Hunt Flat Race last time out at Down Royal.
Sean is right up there with the very best riders in the country and is enjoying another fine season. He rides No Regrets for Nicky Richards in today’s feature contest the Virgin Bet Novices’ Limited Handicap Chase at 1.40pm and connections will be hoping for a big run from the eight-year-old who is having his second start over the bigger obstacles having won two hurdle races. Sean’s other rides include Maughold Head, also for Nicky Richards, in the Virgin Bet Novices’ Hurdle at 1.10pm.
A very talented young jockey, Danny is increasingly in demand from a variety of trainers and has several good bookings this afternoon including Gaillimh A Stor for Nick Alexander in the opening Virgin Bet Fives Novices’ Hurdle. This young horse won here in March and was second at Kelso earlier this month. He comes back in distance today from that last run.
Daryl rides for owners Simon Munir and Isaac Souede and comes to Ayr this afternoon to ride Largy Shark in the opening Virgin Bet Fives Novices’ Hurdle and Carnfunnock in the Virgin Bet Novices’ Hurdle over two miles at 1.10pm. One of the top riders in the country Daryl has a good strike rate here and will be hoping to enhance that today
Bruce Lynn has joined Brian Hughes at the top of the 2022-2023 Jockeys Championship at Ayr after riding Nick Alexander’s Fortescue Wood to victory in the Virgin Bet Novices’ Hurdle at our Virgin Bet Raceday on November 9. They are locked together on 15 points with Danny McMenamin close up on 13 points in third spot and Sean Bowen and Conor O’Farrell two points further behind.

GAILLIMH A STOR did little wrong when finishing second here on his seasonal debut earlier in the month and compensation could await today if producing a similar performance. Community Rebel finished just under three lengths behind the selection in fourth that day and, with improvement a distinct possibility following that first start under Rules, he rates the chief threat. Largy Shark and Monochromix both make their first appearance over hurdles and may chase the aforementioned duo home.

Gold Cup Bailly is a fascinating Irish contender on the back of an impressive chase debut success at Wexford. Captain Quint got no further than the first at Newcastle on Saturday but did win well at Hexham the time before, while better is expected from Hasty Brook now he swaps hurdles for fences.

At every race meeting at Ayr there are three specially qualified equine vets appointed to look after the welfare of all horses in action.

The third vet is based at the Stable Yard where a close check is kept on all horses especially those returning after a race.
