Welcome to the Marine & Lawn Hotels & Resorts Raceday, our first major meeting of the 2022-2023 jumps season which culminates with the Coral Scottish Grand National Festival in April.
This is also our last weekend fixture of the year and there promises to be a party atmosphere.
I’d like to thank Marine & Lawn Hotels & Resorts for their generous sponsorship this afternoon. It is always a pleasure to welcome new sponsors to Ayr and their support is greatly appreciated.
I wish the Marine & Lawn Hotels & Resorts staff and guests an enjoyable afternoon and sincerely hope to see them return here in the future.
We have an exciting day’s racing in prospect with some of the leading names in racing here in person today or represented at the track.
Champion jockey Brian Hughes has a full book of seven rides and his nearest pursuer in this season’s championship Sean Bowen also has several rides.
Many of the leading trainers in Britain and Ireland have runners and the quality of horses in action is high.
One of the feature races is the Marine Troon Hotel & Spa Handicap Hurdle and the eight strong field in this have won no fewer than 35 races between them which shows just how competitive this contest is.
I’d like to take this opportunity to thank the team here at Ayr for their dedication and hard work which go a long way to ensuring the success of days like these.
After the final race we have entertainment for three hours and I hope everyone has an enjoyable and successful day at Ayr Racecourse.
WELCOME TO AYR
David Brown Managing Director Ayr Racecourse
DONALD MCCAIN
RECORD LAST 5 YEARS
WINS FROM
RUNNERS
Donald has been one of the leading trainers in Britain for many years now and always has to be respected when he sends horses here from his Cheshire base. This is a meeting he has targeted over the years and his runners this afternoon include Silver Fellow in the Marine Troon Hotel & Spa Handicap Hurdle and Mackenberg in the Marine Troon Hotel & Spa Handicap Chase. Donald was on the mark here on Monday with Since Day One.
GORDON ELLIOTT
RECORD LAST 5 YEARS

Gordon is always worth following when he makes the trip over from Ireland and he comes today with five runners, all to be ridden by Sean Bowen. These include Getaway Goldie, a winner of chases at Downpatrick and Perth earlier in the year, who lines up in the Marine & Lawn Handicap Chase at 3.08pm and Everybreathyoutake who runs in the Marine Troon Hotel & Spa Handicap Hurdle at 2.33pm.
SANDY THOMSON
RECORD LAST 5 YEARS
WINS FROM
RUNNERS

CONOR
RECORD LAST 5 YEARS
WINS FROM 122 RIDES
Since moving north several seasons ago Conor has never looked back and recorded his best ever season in 20212022, with 49 winners, and he has already made a good start to the urgent campaign highlighted by Dingo Dollar’s win in the Jewson Widnes Vieux Lion Rouge Veterans’ Chase at Aintree on Sunday His mounts today include course specialist Wakool in the Marine Troon Hotel & Spa Handicap Hurdle.
BRIAN HUGHES

HOW TO READ THE RACECARD 1. Pick your Racehorse, look around for the best odds on course, try to proffer the correct stake money for your wager 2. Ask the Bookmaker for your bet by naming the horse. The bookmaker will repeat your bet to his clerk, correct bookmaker if he makes a mistake and receive your Betting Ticket as a receipt for your bet. 3. If your horse wins, give your Betting Ticket to the bookmaker, check your winnings. 4. Check with the bookmaker when placing a bet, the Place Terms. Place Betting, not all on course bookmakers accept each way bets, ie. for a win or a place. 5. In the unlikely event of a dispute after adhering to this procedure, the bookmaker will tell the punter to approach the Ring Official, who will advise you as to your rights. 6. Some course bookmakers have minimum stakes.e.g. £1, £5, £10 but small backers are catered for in the racecourse Betting Shops. HOW TO BET In conjunction with The RCA, the bookmakers have introduced standard each-way terms. DEDANSER showed plenty of ability over hurdles last term, but he always looked the type to make a better chaser in time so Donald McCain’s six-year-old is taken to make a winning start over fences off what looks a very workable mark. Son Of The Somme is another who could be better his timber form over the larger obstacles, while Sputnik bring some good chasing experience to the table and can fare best of the rest.

Runner-up in the Martin Pipe at one stage in his career, DALLAS DES PICTONS has been a largely frustrating sort since then but his most recent effort over fences at Carlisle signalled a return to form. New trainer Dianne Sayer may well have found the key to him and he is narrowly preferred to the returning Wakool, who was so progressive in this sphere throughout last season. Irish raider Everybreathyoutake and Silver Flyer can also have a say in proceedings.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION
HORSE CARE AT AYR
At every race meeting at Ayr there are three specially qualified equine vets appointed to look after the welfare of all horses in action.
During a race two vets follow the action from the centre of the course and can attend a casualty in the same response time as the Medical Teams responsible for the welfare of the Jockeys.
The third vet is based at the Stable Yard where a close check is kept on all horses especially those returning after a race.
