DISTANCES

DANDY MAESTRO has improved for the drop back in trip on his last couple of starts, including when an easy winner over 1m at Newbury on Friday, and a 5lb penalty is unlikely to stop him from completing a hat-trick of victories. Otto Oyl bounced back to form when runner-up at Nottingham earlier in the month and the gelding commands respect as he runs off the same mark. Cosa Sara, a winner here last month, and Pallas Lord appear best of the remainder.

Win: Dandy Maestro

Eachway: Otto Oyl

Welcome to Jura. A few miles off the west coast of Scotland you’ll find our island; remote, sometimes wild, yet always beautiful. Home to roughly 212 islanders, one road, one pub, one distillery.

Since 1810 this unique island malt has been our greatest endeavour and our greatest reward, its creation the heart of an unbreakable bond between our island, our people and our whisky.

In a wide-open event the marginal preference is for BLAZING SON, who made an encouraging seasonal return at Thirsk last month and he was only beaten a neck off this mark on his final start last year. Profit And Loss has to be of some interest having won at Chepstow on his penultimate outing and he was far from disgraced at Wolverhampton when last seen. Others to note are London Palladium, Stallone and Slainte Mhath.

CLASSY AL was a comfortable winner over C&D on his latest outing when holding Impressor at bay and he can do so again despite a 6lb rise in the ratings. Jim Goldie’s charge was said to have benefitted from a return to better ground so connections will be hoping conditions remain dry. Wolverhampton scorer Brazen Idol features prominently in calculations on this switch to turf, while Bobby Shaftoe can make his presence felt if breaking on terms. Kodebreaker returns after recent wind surgery and is another to consider

A case can be made for most of these but none more so than ANGEL POWER, who put in an encouraging effort when only beaten a length in a similar event at Nottingham last month. The five-year-old was a Group 2 winner back in 2020 and it would be no surprise to see her go well. My Astra is more than capable of winning at this level and the unexposed daughter of Lope De Vega could prove to be the main threat. Achelois and The Blue Brilliant add further spice to the race.

LULLABY BAY built on a good second on her reappearance when scoring with some authority at Beverley and Karl Burke’s filly followed up under a 6lb penalty at Thirsk five days later. She has another 6lb hike to contend with in this but is evidently in fantastic form. DISTANCES

All of Royal Regent’s five career victories to date have come at this venue and he must enter calculations on his reappearance, but race-fitness could give SMART CONNECTION the edge. Alice Haynes’ charge has strung a number of solid performances together on the all-weather and, having placed on soft ground at Hamilton back in September, he offers plenty of encouragement ahead of his turf return. Ralphy Boy Two and Ayr Poet are other names to note.

HORSE CARE AT AYR At every race meeting at Ayr there are three specially qualified equine vets appointed to look after the welfare of all horses in action. During a race two vets follow the action from the centre of the course and can attend a casualty in the same response time as the Medical Teams responsible for the welfare of the Jockeys. The third vet is based at the Stable Yard where a close check is kept on all horses especially those returning after a race. MEDIA COVERAGE & RECORDING FOR PROMOTIONAL PURPOSES All Attendees (which for the purposes of this clause also includes horses and for the avoidance of any doubt includes families with children) are reminded that many races and fixtures are given coverage on television, radio and in print and various other forms of media. By entering the Racecourse Attendees are accepting they may appear in such coverage which may also include printed or electronic material used for the promotion of the Racecourse. Accordingly, Attendees shall have no right to object to their inclusion in any much coverage whether produced by the Racecourse or by third parties authorised by the Racecourse. Furthermore by entering the Racecourse each Attendee consents to the passing of still or moving images of them to third parties authorised by the Racecourse for the purposes of the production of printed or electronic material to be used solely for the Promotion of the Racecourse.
