SOFT RISK created an excellent impression when landing a bumper at this track in May, travelling strongly before putting his race to bed in a matter of strides. The Nicky Richards-trained gelding may take some stopping if translating that form to hurdles and can get the better of Muhtamar, who showed improvement when finishing second over course and distance last month. Scots Poet proved a different proposition when winning a Stratford bumper in August, in a first-time hood and tongue-tie, and the gelded son of Yeats can also feature.

Plenty of appealing types in this contest and the one of most interest is GLITTERING LOVE, who shaped well over hurdles when returning from a break eight days ago. The nine-year-old can build on that run now switching to fences and may be capable of adding to his three course-and-distance wins. The lightly-raced Finawn Bawn is a fascinating contender now switching to handicaps and can go well on his return to the track where he won his bumper, while Dragonfruit stepped up when winning at Bangor last time and is also worth considering.

Geordies Dream made a winning debut at Kelso in March when staying on well and Pauline Robson’s gelding has to be respected, despite giving 7lb and upwards to his rivals. That said, he may struggle to get the better of CARNFUNNOCK, who shaped with plenty of promise when third in a Punchestown bumper in the spring and a repeat of that performance could make him tough to beat. Paddock Cottage and Allanah’s Boy are feared most of the remainder.
