Welcome to the second day of The Big Ascot Food & Wine Racing Weekend.

This is an exciting afternoon of racing combined with demonstrations from Michelin-starred chefs, cocktail masterclasses with Silent Pool Gin, wine tasting by Hallgarten & Novum wines and artisan food stalls showcasing unique offerings There is plenty to whet the appetite today.

Our feature race is the Silent Pool Gin Handicap, a £100,000 heritage handicap over a mile and a half for three-year-olds. Last year’s contest was won by The Reverend for part-owner Tony Bloom, who subsequently bought the third-placed Poniros and saw him win the Triumph Hurdle at this year’s Cheltenham Festival on his debut over hurdles. We would like to extend a warm welcome and grateful thanks to this year’s race sponsors Tote UK, Silent Pool Gin and Schweppes for their support of the card. Last year was certainly a day for the Ascot specialists as Woolhampton notched her third win at the track from seven starts whilst Fresh, on his 18th start here, recorded a fourth victory after a thrilling tussle with Tacarib Bay inside the final furlong.

Last week was National Racehorse Week, which celebrates the life of the thoroughbred, enabling everyone the opportunity to see the first-class care and attention that all racehorses receive throughout their lives.

As part of this vital industry initiative, we were delighted to once again take our Equine Ambassador, Side Glance, out into the community to Camp Mohawk, a multi-functional day centre for children with special needs and their families. Side Glance is Ascot’s equine ambassador through the ‘Horses For Courses’ initiative. This is run by Retraining of Racehorses and highlights the fulfilling lives that racehorses live after retiring from racing.

Our next race meeting is the BetMGM Autumn Racing Weekend on Friday 3rd and Saturday 4th October, featuring the ever-popular Ascot Beer Festival in association with CAMRA. We hope you can join us.

Yours sincerely,

Sir Francis Brooke Bt.

His Majesty’s Representative & Chairman

Your guide to all of today’s races

"Confined" Maiden Stakes

This race is a one mile maiden stakes for two-year-olds. Maiden races provide a starting point for young horses that are yet to record a victory and most will be very lightly-raced or be making their racecourse debuts Previous experience can count for a lot when searching for the winner but well-bred or precocious juveniles are more than capable of landing the prize at the first time of asking.

PAGES 22-23

2nd Race 2.10pm

The Silent Pool Gin

"Confined" Handicap Stakes

This is a one mile and two furlong handicap race for three-year-olds which have been rated from 76 to 95 In a handicap the weight that each of the runners carries is determined by their official handicap rating which is based on their level of form shown so far The aim is to ensure competitive racing by asking the higher rated horses to carry more weight than a lower rated rival. As a guide, horses rated 40 tend to be at the lower end of the scale whilst the very best performers would be rated as high as 130

PAGES 28-31

3rd Race 2.40pm

The Schweppes Handicap Stakes

This race is a seven furlong handicap race for three-year-olds and upwards. The majority of handicaps are designed for horses within a specific ratings band but this particular race has no rating restrictions attached to it which allows horses with a higher rating to take part. Despite having no rating restrictions attached to it the higher rated horses must still concede weight to their lower rated rivals, which tend to make open handicaps very competitive races.

PAGES 38-39

4th Race 3.15pm

The Silent Pool Gin Handicap Stakes (Heritage Handicap)

This race is a one mile and four furlong handicap race for three-year-olds only. Just like the previous race, it has no rating restrictions attached to it but this still impacts the higher rated horses as they concede weight to their lower rated rivals, so expect this race to be just as competitive as the earlier contest.

PAGES 46-47

5th Race 3.50pm

The tote UK British EBF Premier Fillies' Handicap Stakes

This is a one mile handicap race for three-year-olds and upwards which have been rated from 81 to 100 To qualify for a handicap rating horses must have run at least three times in a Flat race in Britain, or have run in no more than two Flat races run in Britain and won at least one of them. This rating then dictates the weight to be carried in a handicap In simple terms a horse rated 100 in this particular race would be required to carry 5lb more than a rival rated 95

PAGES 50-53

6th Race 4.25pm

The Racing To School Reaches 250,000 Handicap Stakes

This is a six furlong handicap race for three-year-olds and upwards which have been rated from 79 to 98 Once a horse has qualified for a handicap rating this is regularly reassessed. A below-par effort could result in a reduced rating whilst a strong performance could see the rating increased. Occasionally, horses are entered to race before their handicap rating has been reviewed and so to avoid recent winners being un-penalised they are allotted a mandatory penalty – usually 6lb.

PAGES 56-58

7th Race 4.55pm

The tote UK Handicap Stakes

This is a five furlong handicap race for three-year-olds and upwards which have been rated from 79 to 98 Like most handicaps on the flat this race is also open to horses that are rated below that particular band. However, all handicaps stipulate a minimum weight and no runner can carry less than that, irrespective of how low their rating is This is often described as ‘running from out of the handicap’ and is considered a disadvantage.

As an official sponsor of Ascot & Royal Ascot 2025 we are delighted to sponsor the Silent Pool Gin ‘Confined’ Handicap Stakes and The Silent Pool Gin Handicap Stakes (Heritage Handicap). Distilled in the Surrey Hills, Silent Pool Gin is an ultra-premium London Dry Gin crafted with 24 botanicals, including locally sourced Albury honey, lavender, chamomile, and elderflower Presented in its signature teal bottle with intricate copper detailing, Silent Pool Gin delivers a balanced, aromatic flavour made to be savoured on extraordinary racedays and beyond.

At Schweppes we owe our name (and eternal effervescence) to our founding father – Jacob Schweppe – a Swiss jeweller, craftsman and restless innovator. Unsatisfied with simply being one of the best watchmakers in Geneva, in 1783, he mastered the art of bottling bubbles and became the first person in history to create carbonated soft drinks on a mass scale. Soon after, he set sail for England to quench his thirst for something a little more exciting.

Causing quite the stir among the high society, his sparkling creation was a big hit. More than 225 years later, our effervescence – and innovative spirit – is just as iconic as it was then.

Racing to School is an education charity that aims to inspire young minds through the provision of free, interactive, and healthy outdoor educational events for schools, staged at racecourses, training yards and studs across Britain. This autumn, the charity will welcome its 250,000th participant since the programme began in 2001. The charity’s programmes have grown in reach and impact year-on-year – over 17,500 young people will be supported in 2025 through unique, curriculum-linked activity To find out more visit: racingtoschool.co.uk.

22. Official BHA Rating

The BHA handicappers allot ratings to horses once they have taken part in a sufficient number of races to enable the handicappers to make a numerical assessment of each horse’s ability. The principal purpose of the ratings is to determine the weight to be carried by each runner in handicap races, with the handicappers aiming to provide each participant with an equal chance based on its best recent form under its optimum conditions. A horse rated 100, for example, would be set to carry 1lb more than a horse rated 99 (ignoring penalties and allowances). The ratings published in the racecard for handicap races are the ratings that were used to calculate the weight to be carried by each horse, whilst in non-handicapped races the rating shown is that of each runner at the time that the entries for the race were confirmed. Any subsequently published change in rating, either up or down, is shown in brackets following the rating. For novice steeple chasers, their latest hurdle race rating may be shown until such time as the handicappers allot a separate steeple chase rating. Such ratings are prefixed by the letter h. 23. Jockey’s name and photo If there is a number next to the name, this indicates that the jockey can claim that amount in weight (lbs) off the stated riding weight.

A T A S C O T R A C E C O U R S E

The safety and welfare of horses and jockeys is paramount throughout the year at Ascot. In recent years we have invested significantly to improve our facilities on and off the track to ensure we provide the very best care and attention for all participants. Nowhere is this better demonstrated than in the changes made to the racing surface itself during the redevelopment in 2006.

The key elements of the project were to camber the home and old paddock bends and to remove the road crossings over the track, replacing them with underpasses. This created a safer surface for the horses, where previously some less experienced runners had occasionally shied at the differing surfaces.

Further improvements to equine welfare provision were made as part of a £700,000 project to create an enhanced unsaddling area in 2016. Increased in size to accommodate large field races more comfortably, the Unsaddling Enclosure Lawn is positioned to benefit from maximum shade from the crown of an adjacent mature tree

as well as a repositioned tulip tree, which sits to the south of the oval. Equine misting fans were also installed to aid with post-race cooling of horses.

Four specifically qualified equine vets are on duty every raceday, dedicated to the welfare of all the horses. During each race, vets follow the runners by car and can respond to and attend a casualty generally within a minute – as fast as the paramedic teams responsible for human casualties

Ascot’s two permanent veterinary boxes are supplemented with an X-Ray machine at all meetings to assist with swift diagnosis before administration of treatment on site or any movement necessary to equine hospitals. There are two equine ambulances on course at all times and three ambulances for any incidents involving injuries to jockeys

The jockeys’ facilities at Ascot include a medical treatment room, rest rooms and a dedicated room for physiotherapy.

Further information on safety and welfare in horse racing can be found at horsepwr.co.uk

LEADMAN is a strong-travelling sort that should prove well suited by the test the 7f at Ascot provides and gets the verdict having shaped well in unfavourable circumstances at York last month. Native Warrior again showed plenty to like when a staying-on third at Goodwood and will benefit from the return to this track. He heads the list of dangers, with Great Acclaim and handicap newcomer Strong Warrior also considered.

TIMEFORM SUMMARY

A typically competitive renewal of the Old Borough Cup in which William Haggas’ improving THE REVEREND is fancied to gain his biggest win yet now he steps back up in distance on the back of a facile Ripon success. Caballo De Mar is enjoying a fantastic season and heads the list of dangers in his bid to garner a fifth win, while the thriving Paddy The Squire shouldn’t be underestimated either. Stressfree, Kildare Legend and Dancing In Paris all enter calculations too.

On the face of it SKY MAJESTY has a bit to find with some of these but the manner of her recent victory in Ireland suggested that she is still improving. The Blue Point filly is versatile ground-wise and, from a value standpoint, is an appealing alternative to French raider Lazzat, who is the one to beat based on form such as his Royal Ascot success in June. Time For Sandals also bagged a Group 1 at the Royal Meeting and is greatly respected, while Kind of Blue is another with strong claims.

This autumn, the charity Racing to School is proudly marking an important milestone, welcoming its 250,000th participant since the programme began in 2001. In recognition of this significant milestone, we have donated race naming rights for our 4.25pm race, aptly named The Racing To School Reaches 250,000 Handicap Stakes.

For more than two decades, Racing to School has been dedicated to inspiring young minds, and raising aspirations by providing engaging, outdoor educational activities held at racecourses, training yards and studs across Britain. The charity’s programmes have grown in reach and impact year-on-year – over 17,500 young people will be supported in 2025 through unique, curriculum-linked activity

This landmark could not have been reached without the support of the racing industry and the charity is extremely grateful to Ascot and all racecourses nationwide for their partnership

Racing to School’s dedicated team is comprised of a variety of industry backgrounds, including

former jockeys who have retrained to develop their second careers, using their experience to introduce horseracing as an accessible sport to young people from all backgrounds and with differing needs.

The charity is ambitious to do more and will celebrate its 25th anniversary next year As a registered charity, it relies solely on voluntary donations to deliver free education programmes to young people.

To support Racing to School, simply scan the QR code to donate. Thank you for helping to inspire and support the next generation.

BEYOND Where Waterfront Living Becomes a State of Mind

BEYOND Developments is honoured to be the Official Real Estate Partner of Ascot and Royal Ascot. This collaboration reflects more than a shared commitment to legacy, elegance and excellence It represents a meeting of philosophies that celebrate life with intention, grace and imagination. For BEYOND, the waterfront is not just a setting. It is a way of living

Born in Dubai, a city where the horse is more than a symbol but a reflection of heritage, pride and progress, our vision is inspired by the same values that define the equestrian world. Much like Ascot, Dubai blends tradition with ambition, refinement with vitality. Within this cultural fabric, BEYOND was established as part of the OMNIYAT Group to create lifestyle destinations that are emotionally resonant, designled and deeply human.

Every project begins with a location shaped by natural beauty, close to the sea, sand and sky Architecture flows with the landscape, softening the boundaries between indoors and out. These are places designed for people, where comfort, wellbeing and connection come together effortlessly Nature plays a vital role, with shaded walkways, lush gardens and waterfront promenades that bring both calm and energy into daily life.

This philosophy finds its boldest expression in BEYOND’s 8 million sq. ft. masterplan at Dubai Maritime City, home to the region’s first Forest District by the Sea. With 65,000 square

meters of community parks, including 55,000 square meters of native woodland, this nature-first destination redefines coastal living. Within this masterplan, BEYOND has launched six signature projects to date: Aria, Saria, ORISE, Sensia, The Mural, and Talea, each crafted in collaboration with worldrenowned architecture firms including BENOY, SOMA, Nabil Gholam, HBA, and DWP.

Rooted in cultural awareness and shaped with intention, BEYOND creates environments that awaken imagination and elevate the experience of home Every detail is considered, offering more than just a residence, but a place to feel grounded, inspired and free

At its heart, this partnership is about more than alignment. It’s about aspiration, a shared belief in creating experiences that endure. As BEYOND continues to shape the waterfront lifestyle in Dubai and explore new horizons abroad, the values of purpose, place and possibility remain at the core of every step forward. From the track to the shoreline, from legacy to modern living, from tradition to transformation, BEYOND and Ascot each stand as expressions of timeless vision shaped by place, people and purpose

At all meetings there is a team of specially qualified vets appointed to look after the welfare of all horses. During each race vets follow the horse by car and can attend a casualty in the same response time as the paramedic teams responsible for human casualties. It is standard practise for screens to be fixed around any horse receiving veterinary treatment. This does not reflect the severity of an injury, just allows the vet some privacy and the patient a calm environment in which to recover. Please do not always assume the worst if you see screens around a fallen horse.
