Welcome Welcome to the second day of the BetMGM Autumn Racing Weekend, our penultimate raceday of the Flat season, featuring the 19th Ascot Beer Festival in association with CAMRA. We thank BetMGM for their overall sponsorship of this two-day event, as well as four races on today’s card including the BetMGM Challenge Cup, the richest seven-furlong handicap in the country. Last year’s contest was won by hot favourite Native Warrior after also taking the valuable handicap here in September and Thunder Call aims to follow that same path following his smooth success here last month. The BetMGM Cumberland Lodge Stakes is one of two Group 3s on the card and last year Al Qareem broke new ground in becoming the first ever three-time winner of the race. The runner-up that day, Tenability, will aim to go one better this time around with the evergreen Al Aasy hoping to make it third time lucky in this contest at the grand old age of nine. We would also like to thank John Guest Racing for their long-standing and greatly appreciated sponsorship of the Bengough Stakes, which looks a quality renewal this year with the likes of Division, Prince Of India and Hidden Force all declared. Off the track, there are over 160 beers, ciders and perries to sample at the Ascot Beer Festival in association with CAMRA. You will be able to find the Festival at the east end of the Grandstand. Earlier this month, we were very proud to promote our annual staff volunteers’ week as part of our Ascot Racecourse Supports programme. This year, 89 members of staff took part at 15 local charities with 470 volunteer hours contributed cleaning, repairing, decorating and gardening, helping to enhance spaces and facilities that support local people every day. We look forward to welcoming you back here on Saturday 17th October for Qatar Racing British Champions Day - our final Flat fixture of 2026 promises to be a thrilling conclusion to the British Flat season. Yours sincerely,
Sir Francis Brooke Bt. His Majesty’s Representative & Chairman

RAC I N G PAG E S Your guide to all of today’s races
PAG E S 1 6 -1 8 1st Race 1.15pm The BetMGM British EBF October Stakes (Listed Race) This seven furlong race is at Listed level but this time is limited to fillies and mares. Many of the runners in this race will have already shown themselves to be talented and this race provides a perfect medium for them to be tested against a better class of rival before making the jump into a Group race. Initially, three-year-olds are set to carry 9st, while four year olds and upwards will carry 9st 2lb, before any penalties are applied. PAG E S 2 2 -2 4 2nd Race 1.50pm The BetMGM Rous Stakes (Listed Race) This five furlong contest for three-year-olds and upwards is a Listed race; a race that can only be bettered by a Group 1, 2 or 3 race. Initially, the weights are set at 9st 3lb for colts and geldings and 8st 12lb for fillies before penalties are awarded to horses that have previously won above a certain level – 3lb for a Listed race victory, 5lb for a Group 3 success and 7lb for a Group 2. PAG E S 2 8 -2 9 3rd Race 2.25pm The BetMGM Cumberland Lodge Stakes (Group 3) This one mile and four furlong race for three-year-olds and upwards is a Group 3 contest – a race which can only be bettered by a Group 1 or 2. Initially, the weights are allocated on the basis of age and sex before penalties are awarded to horses which have won above a certain level prior to lining up here – 3lb to Group 3 winners, 5lb for a Group 2 or 7lb to those successful in a Group 1.
PAG E S 34 - 3 6 4th Race 3.00pm The John Guest Racing Bengough Stakes (Group 3) Just like the previous contest, this is also a Group 3 race but over six furlongs. In a Group 3 race, runners will have already posted form well above average and some may use this as a stepping-stone to even greater things in the future.
PAG E S 4 0 - 4 3 5th Race 3.35pm The BetMGM Challenge Cup (Heritage Handicap) This race is a seven furlong handicap race for three-year-olds and upwards. The majority of handicaps are designed for horses from within a specific ratings band but this particular race has no rating restrictions attached to it which allows horses with a higher rating to take part. Despite having no rating restrictions attached to it the higher rated horses must still concede weight to their lower rated rivals, which tend to make open handicaps very competitive races. PAG E S 4 8 - 5 0 6th Race 4.10pm The Ascot Iron Stand Membership Handicap Stakes This is a five furlong handicap race for three-year-olds and upwards which have been rated from 0 to 105. In a handicap the weight that each of the runners carries is determined by their official handicap rating which is based on their level of form shown so far. The aim is to ensure competitive racing by asking the higher rated horses to carry more weight than a lower rated rival. As a guide, horses rated 40 tend to be at the lower end of the scale whilst the very best performers would be rated as high as 130.

21. Weight (stones/pounds) 22. Official BHA Rating The BHA handicappers allot ratings to horses once they have taken part in a sufficient number of races to enable the handicappers to make a numerical assessment of each horse’s ability. The principal purpose of the ratings is to determine the weight to be carried by each runner in handicap races, with the handicappers aiming to provide each participant with an equal chance based on its best recent form under its optimum conditions. A horse rated 100, for example, would be set to carry 1lb more than a horse rated 99 (ignoring penalties and allowances). The ratings published in the racecard for handicap races are the ratings that were used to calculate the weight to be carried by each horse, whilst in non-handicapped races the rating shown is that of each runner at the time that the entries for the race were confirmed. Any subsequently published change in rating, either up or down, is shown in brackets following the rating. For novice steeple chasers, their latest hurdle race rating may be shown until such time as the handicappers allot a separate steeple chase rating. Such ratings are prefixed by the letter h. 23. Jockey’s name and photo If there is a number next to the name, this indicates that the jockey can claim that amount in weight (lbs) off the stated riding weight.

Supporting Those Who Serve: Welcoming Back the Army Benevolent Fund
Today, we are delighted to welcome back volunteers from the Army Benevolent Fund (ABF), led by Major Will Tower MBE, Regional Director South-East. We invite them on this raceday to sell merchandise and to be our bucket collectors. They raise awareness for their important work in supporting over 74,000 individuals in the Army family, across 51 countries worldwide. The ABF was also here at Royal Ascot. It joined forces with The Royal Navy and Royal Marines Charity, and the RAF Benevolent Fund (the Tri-Forces), to receive a collective donation of £35,965. This donation reflects various food and beverage sales during the week – with every jug of Pimms and Royal Ascot Blush sold on the Friday contributing £2.50. This dovetailed with our 50% discounted ticket offer on the day for all serving military. In the past five years, we are proud to report that over £300,000 has been donated to the Tri-Forces via our charity programme, Ascot Racecourse Supports. In addition, the three charities raised £21,000 from bucket collections on the Friday raceday. We hope that racegoers today will again be generous in supporting the ABF. To find out more about the charity’s work, please visit armybenevolentfund.org

Making a Difference Beyond the Racecourse At Ascot Racecourse, we believe in supporting the communities around us, and our recent Staff Volunteer Week demonstrated the impact that can be achieved when colleagues come together for a common cause.
During the week, 89 Ascot colleagues volunteered their time to support local charities and community organisations across Berkshire and the surrounding area. Working alongside our charity partners, teams took part in a range of practical projects, including gardening, decorating, maintenance, cleaning and sorting donations, helping to improve spaces and facilities that provide vital support to local people every day.
up their sleeves to make a real and lasting difference. In total, colleagues contributed more than 470 volunteer hours, equivalent to 67 volunteer days, demonstrating Ascot’s commitment to giving back and supporting the organisations that play such an important role in our community. We are proud of the enthusiasm, teamwork and dedication shown by everyone who took part, and grateful to the 15 organisations that welcomed our teams: Ascot Day Centre, Camp Mohawk, Dingley’s Promise, First Days, Jealott’s Hill Community Landshare, Just Around the Corner, Quest RDA, Riding A Dream Academy, Slough Foodbank, Sport in Mind, Thames Hospice, The Cowshed, Windsor Foodshare, Windsor Homeless Project and Youthline. Our sincere thanks go to every volunteer and charity partner who helped make the week such a success.
From refreshing outdoor areas and community buildings to restoring equipment and tackling long-overdue improvement projects, volunteers rolled

Equine and human welfare at Ascot Racecourse
The safety and welfare of horses and jockeys is paramount throughout the year at Ascot. In recent years we have invested significantly to improve our facilities on and off the track to ensure we provide the very best care and attention for all participants. Nowhere is this better demonstrated than in the changes made to the racing surface itself during the redevelopment in 2006. The key elements of the project were to camber the home and old paddock bends and to remove the road crossings over the track, replacing them with underpasses. This created a safer surface for the horses, where previously some less experienced runners had occasionally shied at the differing surfaces. Further improvements to equine welfare provision were made as part of a £700,000 project to create an enhanced unsaddling area in 2016. Increased in size to accommodate large field races more comfortably, the Unsaddling Enclosure Lawn is positioned to benefit from maximum shade from the crown of an adjacent mature tree as well as a repositioned tulip tree, which sits to the south of the oval. Equine misting fans were also installed to aid with post-race cooling of horses.
Four specifically qualified equine vets are on duty every raceday, dedicated to the welfare of all the horses. During each race, vets follow the runners by car and can respond to and attend a casualty generally within a minute – as fast as the paramedic teams responsible for human casualties. Ascot’s two permanent veterinary boxes are supplemented with an X-Ray machine at all meetings to assist with swift diagnosis before administration of treatment on site or any movement necessary to equine hospitals. There are two equine ambulances on course at all times and three ambulances for any incidents involving injuries to jockeys. The jockeys’ facilities at Ascot include a medical treatment room, rest rooms and a dedicated room for physiotherapy. Further information on safety and welfare in horse racing can be found at horsepwr.co.uk

During each race vets follow the horse by car and can attend a casualty in the same response time as the paramedic teams responsible for human casualties. It is standard practice for screens to be fixed around any horse receiving veterinary treatment. This does not reflect the severity of an injury, just allows the vet some privacy and the patient a calm environment in which to recover. Please do not always assume the worst if you see screens around a fallen horse. ABANDONMENT POLICY In the event of racing being abandoned, refunds on entrance money and car parks will only be made in the following circumstances: a)
Abandonment before the running of the first race – full refund.
b)
Abandonment before the third or feature race, whichever is later – 50% refund
Where the provision of hospitality services has commenced and the raceday is subsequently abandoned there will be no refund for the hospitality. In the event of an abandonment there is no need to contact us, we will be in touch with next steps and any required actions. HBLB The Horserace Betting Levy Board (HBLB) has allocated £77.1m in prize money for 2026. Since 2000 HBLB has invested £1.5bn in prize money to support the British horseracing industry.
