Welcome to the second day of the Racing To Zero Summer Mile Racing Weekend.
The Summer Mile Family Raceday is a brilliant day for families to enjoy together here at Ascot and there are a host of activities, both on and off the track, to ensure that everyone will be thoroughly entertained. Whether it’s face painting, balloon modellers, cricket workshops or meeting our Equine Ambassador, Side Glance, there’s truly something for the whole family at Ascot today.
We are pleased to offer over £375,000 in prize money on today’s seven-race card, where the feature race is the Cornish Orchards Summer Mile, a Group 2 event run over the Old Mile and worth £140,000.
Last year, Quddwah maintained his unbeaten record with a commanding display in the race and he lines up again in a bid to become the fourth back-to-back winner of this race. The form from the Royal Meeting will be fully tested today with Never So Brave and Haatem both bidding for further glory in this contest having been successful at Royal Ascot. With proven performers at this level coming up against handicap improvers, we could be set for another high-class renewal of this contest which has been won by Group 1 winners Mohaather and Master Of The Seas in recent years.
Our grateful thanks go to race sponsors Cornish Orchards and LK Bennett, as well as Juddmonte for their support of the wider British developmental race programme.
As part of our Racing to Zero commitment and to show sustainability in action, we have a number of eco-friendly features around the course this weekend. More details can be found in the racecard and the Sustainability Hub is located on the Cedar Tree Lawn where there is lots of information about our Racing to Zero goals
Our next meeting in two weeks’ time is the King George Weekend, featuring the King George VI and Queen Elizabeth Stakes, this year the race will be run for a record £1.5million. We hope to welcome you back then.
Yours sincerely,
Sir Francis Brooke Bt. His Majesty’s Representative & Chairman

1st Race 1. 45pm
The Juddmonte British EBF Restricted Novice Stakes
Today’s opener is a seven furlong novice stakes which is restricted to two-year-olds who are E.B.F eligible, but in order to take part all of the runners must meet certain conditions. Unlike a maiden, which is restricted to horses yet to record a victory, winning horses which have run in a maximum of six races are eligible to run. Weights are set according to sex before previous winners are allocated penalties for each race won.
PAGES 24-25
2nd Race 2.22pm
The Cornish Orchards Summer Mile Stakes (Group 2)
The feature race of the day, this one mile race for four-year-olds and upwards is a Group 2 contest and will attract some high-class horses Unlike in a handicap when a horse’s official rating reflects the weight that they must carry, in a Group 2 all runners carry the same weight regardless of any previous form. In this case colts and geldings carry 9st 3lb and fillies 9st although any runner which has already won a Group 2 race will be issued with a 3lb penalty while Group 1 winners will incur a 5lb penalty.
PAGES 32-33
3rd Race 2.57pm
The King Edward VII Ascot Membership Handicap Stakes
This is a one mile and six furlong handicap race for three-year-olds and upwards which have been rated from 69 to 88 In a handicap the weight that each of the runners carries is determined by their official handicap rating which is based on their level of form shown so far. The aim is to ensure competitive racing by asking the higher rated horses to carry more weight than a lower rated rival. As a guide, horses rated 40 tend to be at the lower end of the scale whilst the very best performers would be rated as high as 130
PAGES 38-39
4th Race 3.30pm
The Ascot Racecourse Supports People To Places Fillies’ Handicap Stakes
Our fourth race is a one mile handicap race for three-year-old and upwards fillies and mares which have been rated from 69 to 88. Once a horse has qualified for a handicap rating this is regularly reassessed. A below-par effort could result in a reduced rating whilst a strong performance could see the rating increased. Occasionally, horses are entered to race before their handicap rating has been reviewed and so to avoid recent winners being un-penalised they are allotted a mandatory penalty – usually 6lb
PAGES 42-43
5th Race 4.10pm
The Racing To Zero Handicap Stakes
This is a one mile and four furlong handicap race for three-year-olds and upwards which have been rated from 86 to 105 To qualify for a handicap rating horses must have run at least three times in a Flat race in Britain, or have run in no more than two Flat races run in Britain and won at least one of them. This rating then dictates the weight to be carried in a handicap. In simple terms a horse rated 105 in this particular race would be required to carry 5lb more than a rival rated 100
PAGES 48-51
6th Race 4.50pm
The LK Bennett Butterfly Mark Heritage Handicap Stakes
This is a five furlong handicap race for three-year-olds and upwards. The majority of handicaps are designed for horses from with a specific ratings band but this particular race has no rating restrictions attached to it which allows horses with a higher rating to take part. Despite having no rating restrictions, the higher rated horses must still concede weight to their lower rated rivals, which tend to make open handicaps very competitive races
PAGES 56-58
7th Race 5.20pm
The Recycle Your Racecard Handicap Stakes
Our finale is a seven furlong handicap race for three-year-olds and upwards which have been rated from 61 to 80 Like most handicaps on the Flat this race is also open to horses that are rated below that particular band. However, all handicaps stipulate a minimum weight and no runner can carry less than that, irrespective of how low their rating is This is often described as ‘running from out of the handicap’ and is considered a disadvantage.

The BHA handicappers allot ratings to horses once they have taken part in a sufficient number of races to enable the handicappers to make a numerical assessment of each horse’s ability. The principal purpose of the ratings is to determine the weight to be carried by each runner in handicap races, with the handicappers aiming to provide each participant with an equal chance based on its best recent form under its optimum conditions. A horse rated 100, for example, would be set to carry 1lb more than a horse rated 99 (ignoring penalties and allowances). The ratings published in the racecard for handicap races are the ratings that were used to calculate the weight to be carried by each horse, whilst in non-handicapped races the rating shown is that of each runner at the time that the entries for the race were confirmed. Any subsequently published change in rating, either up or down, is shown in brackets following the rating. For novice steeple chasers, their latest hurdle race rating may be shown until such time as the handicappers allot a separate steeple chase rating. Such ratings are prefixed by the letter h. 22. Jockey’s name and photo If there is a number next to the name, this indicates that the jockey can claim that amount in weight (lbs) off the stated riding weight.

Ascot would like to take this opportunity to thank today’s race sponsors for their generous support.
Juddmonte is pleased to be focusing its sponsorship on those races with restricted conditions, which can be used to funnel prize money to the smaller owners and breeders who need it most.
1
Douglas Erskine Crum, CEO Juddmonte: “In its third year of running, Juddmonte is delighted to continue to support the BHA’s initiative to kick-start a long-term plan to enhance prize money substantially for developmental races. These high prize money developmental races directly support owners and breeders in areas that can be overlooked and thereby support our UK breeding industry

CREST OF FIRE built considerably on his debut promise when runner-up to a good prospect at York 2 weeks ago and, with the timefigure very much supporting the performance, he has to be considered the one to beat with further progress on the cards. Anashhad can improve on his opening effort, especially now upped in trip, with Mogbbel the pick of the newcomers before market clues.

Racing Post Smart View is the new unbiased, comprehensive and intuitive tool for all racing fans. Using their unrivalled racing database, Racing Post’s team of data scientists uses mathematical modelling and machine learning techniques to generate an objective assessment across six key attributes for each horse.
These are presented in a format that allows you to either home in on individual attributes or be guided by the overall Smart View score, which is a weighted average of the six attributes and, like them, is scored out of 100.
Whether you’re a seasoned form student or a casual punter, Racing Post Smart View can help you to make more informed choices and more successful bets.

BEYOND Developments is honoured to be the Official Real Estate Partner of Ascot and Royal Ascot. This collaboration reflects more than a shared commitment to legacy, elegance and excellence It represents a meeting of philosophies that celebrate life with intention, grace and imagination. For BEYOND, the waterfront is not just a setting. It is a way of living.
Born in Dubai, a city where the horse is more than a symbol but a reflection of heritage, pride and progress, our vision is inspired by the same values that define the equestrian world. Much like Ascot, Dubai blends tradition with ambition, refinement with vitality. Within this cultural fabric, BEYOND was established as part of the OMNIYAT Group to create lifestyle destinations that are emotionally resonant, designled and deeply human.
Every project begins with a location shaped by natural beauty, close to the sea, sand and sky Architecture flows with the landscape, softening the boundaries between indoors and out. These are places designed for people, where comfort, wellbeing and connection come together effortlessly Nature plays a vital role, with shaded walkways, lush gardens and waterfront promenades that bring both calm and energy into daily life.
This philosophy finds its boldest expression in BEYOND’s 8 million sq. ft. masterplan at Dubai Maritime City, home to the region’s first Forest District by the Sea. With 65,000 square
meters of community parks, including 55,000 square meters of native woodland, this nature-first destination redefines coastal living. Within this masterplan, BEYOND has launched six signature projects to date: Aria, Saria, ORISE, Sensia, The Mural, and Talea, each crafted in collaboration with worldrenowned architecture firms including BENOY, SOMA, Nabil Gholam, HBA, and DWP.
Rooted in cultural awareness and shaped with intention, BEYOND creates environments that awaken imagination and elevate the experience of home Every detail is considered, offering more than just a residence, but a place to feel grounded, inspired and free
At its heart, this partnership is about more than alignment. It’s about aspiration, a shared belief in creating experiences that endure. As BEYOND continues to shape the waterfront lifestyle in Dubai and explore new horizons abroad, the values of purpose, place and possibility remain at the core of every step forward. From the track to the shoreline, from legacy to modern living, from tradition to transformation, BEYOND and Ascot each stand as expressions of timeless vision shaped by place, people and purpose

A cracking renewal of the Bunbury Cup but MORE THUNDER has long promised to be suited by stepping back up to 7f and is fancied to quickly resume winning ways having just failed to get up in Royal Ascot’s Wokingham last time Ten Pounds came home a place behind William Haggas’ colt that day and again rates the main threat, although Akkadian Thunder, Myal and Ebt’s Guard all need factoring in too. Run Boy Run and Aalto complete the shortlist.

As one of our “Racing to Zero” goals of promoting sustainable travel, we are delighted to have purchased the first People to Places electric bus via legacy funding for the charity to add to its fleet.
People to Places is a local charity that has been providing community transport and shopmobility services to local residents in the Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead since 1989 Its services help those unable to use public transport due to disability, illness, vulnerability or social isolation reach their destination of choice - be that a hospital appointment or a shopping trip.

TIMEFORM SUMMARY
Plenty of these have scope for improvement, notably CHIRINGITA who has a smart pedigree and was a ready winner on handicap debut at Sandown last month. She can follow up that victory at the expense of Star of Dubai who chased home a subsequent winner on her first start in a handicap and could progress again, while Orange Sky travelled powerfully through the race when successful at Newmarket last time and remains open to improvement for top connections.

The safety and welfare of horses and jockeys is paramount throughout the year at Ascot. In recent years we have invested significantly to improve our facilities on and off the track to ensure we provide the very best care and attention for all participants. Nowhere is this better demonstrated than in the changes made to the racing surface itself during the redevelopment in 2006.
The key elements of the project were to camber the home and old paddock bends and to remove the road crossings over the track, replacing them with underpasses. This created a safer surface for the horses, where previously some less experienced runners had occasionally shied at the differing surfaces.
Further improvements to equine welfare provision were made as part of a £700,000 project to create an enhanced unsaddling area in 2016. Increased in size to accommodate large field races more comfortably, the Unsaddling Enclosure Lawn is positioned to benefit from maximum shade from the crown of an adjacent mature tree
as well as a repositioned tulip tree, which sits to the south of the oval. Equine misting fans were also installed to aid with post-race cooling of horses.
Four specifically qualified equine vets are on duty every raceday, dedicated to the welfare of all the horses. During each race, vets follow the runners by car and can respond to and attend a casualty generally within a minute – as fast as the paramedic teams responsible for human casualties
Ascot’s two permanent veterinary boxes are supplemented with an X-Ray machine at all meetings to assist with swift diagnosis before administration of treatment on site or any movement necessary to equine hospitals. There are two equine ambulances on course at all times and three ambulances for any incidents involving injuries to jockeys
The jockeys’ facilities at Ascot include a medical treatment room, rest rooms and a dedicated room for physiotherapy.
Further information on safety and welfare in horse racing can be found at horsepwr.co.uk

In an open-looking renewal of this prestigious race, WHISTLEJACKET could be the answer. The No Nay Never colt was one of last season’s leading 2-y-os at this trip and the way he shaped in the Commonwealth Cup at Royal Ascot, where he got no sort of a run, suggested that there may yet be more to come from him this year. If last season’s Guineas winner Notable Speech copes with this drop in trip he will be a big threat, while Flora Of Bermuda and Believing are also strong candidates.

Clive Cox’s REDORANGE ran a cracker when third over C&D at the Royal Meeting, coming home first in his group, and can gain compensation here at the chief expense of Holkham Bay who also shaped better than his position suggests when fourth in the Wokingham here. Alzahir is enjoying a fine season and can’t be ruled out either in his bid for a fifth victory, while Blue Day, Glamorous Breeze and Woodhay Wonder also need factoring in. Germanic completes the shortlist.

Building on the success of our annual Royal Ascot Fashion Design Competition, this year we appointed creative consultancy, Colour Immortalis, to facilitate a Fashion Design Enrichment Programme across 10 local schools/colleges for students aged 15yrs+ studying textiles, fashion and/or photography.
The concept was for students to design an outfit for the Queen Anne Enclosure at Royal Ascot. LK Bennett, Official Sponsor of Royal Ascot, were on board to manufacture the winning entry, which was designed by Sofia Linares, a 15-year-old student from The Abbey School, Reading who joined us at Royal Ascot wearing her bespoke outfit.
All the fantastic entries received are on display in the Grandstand, near Entrance C, and we are delighted to welcome participating students from:
The Abbey School, Reading, Brakenhale School, Bracknell, Edgbarrow School, Crowthorne, Garth Hill College, Bracknell, Heathfield School, Ascot, Luckley House School, Wokingham, The Marist, Ascot, Ranelagh School, Bracknell, Windsor College and Windsor Girls School.
As part of our Ascot Racecourse Supports charity/community programme, we commissioned the production of The Dream Horse, an inclusive art installation created in partnership with Busy Buttons CORE Charity to showcase sustainability This inspiring project was led by Louella and Lautaro FernandezLempiainen who held hands-on workshops across four local schools, engaging 66 young people with special educational needs.
The installation is made from recycled materials sourced directly from Ascot Racecourse, including bamboo cutlery, badges, wine corks, jockey silks, horse decorations and riding equipment. Throughout the process, the students learned new creative techniques, explored different materials, and developed practical skills - all whilst engaging in meaningful conversations about sustainability.
“I found it very creative and inspiring I think it’s good that I am contributing to the project to help save the planet,” said one enthusiastic student.
The front section of The Dream Horse made its inaugural appearance at Royal Ascot and today we reveal the complete horse which is located in the Grandstand near Entrance B. The horse includes an interactive platform for photographs so please feel free to come and take a selfie!
We are honoured to bring this vision to life in collaboration with the charity and these remarkable young artists and hope it inspires a more sustainable future.
With thanks to students from Heathermount School, Ascot, Arbour Vale School, Slough, Manor Green School, Maidenhead and Forest Bridge School, Maidenhead.

In March 2025, 45 students from 15 local schools gathered at Ascot Racecourse for the annual Ascot Racecourse Supports & 1711 Bake-Off competition. Heats took place involving 1,234 students from across Slough, RBWM and Bracknell Forest so a real achievement to have been selected to represent their school.
Fifteen teams designed, created, baked, decorated and presented their goodies with the theme of “Picnicking at Ascot” including a sweet and/or savoury delight to celebrate a day at Royal Ascot. Teams were tasked with locating and using locally sourced ingredients and creating a mood board showing their journey from sourcing to design, decoration and naming of their creation.
Judges for the event were Gemma Amor, 1711 Executive Chef, Jonathan Parker, Managing Director of 1711 and Guest Judge, Benoit Blin, Chef Pâtissier who had the difficult task of deciding the winning teams who were vying for the ultimate accolade of having their bake appear on the retail menus today.
The winning bakes created by Kings Academy, Easthampstead Park, Bracknell and Ascot Heath Primary School are available to purchase from Lavazza Tierra on the Grandstand Concourse and Lavazza on 4 (Level 4). The winning teams have also been invited to enjoy today’s raceday with their families

At all meetings there is a team of specially qualified vets appointed to look after the welfare of all horses. During each race vets follow the horse by car and can attend a casualty in the same response time as the paramedic teams responsible for human casualties. It is standard practise for screens to be fixed around any horse receiving veterinary treatment. This does not reflect the severity of an injury, just allows the vet some privacy and the patient a calm environment in which to recover. Please do not always assume the worst if you see screens around a fallen horse.
In the event of racing being abandoned, refunds on entrance money and car parks will only be made in the following circumstances:
a) Abandonment before the running of the first race – full refund.
b) Abandonment before the third or feature race, whichever is later – 50% refund
Where the provision of hospitality services has commenced and the raceday is subsequently abandoned there will be no refund for the hospitality.
In the event of an abandonment there is no need to contact us, we will be in touch with next steps and any required actions.
The Horserace Betting Levy Board prize fund schemes provide for the estimated inclusion of £560,463 in ratecard and incremental prize money at this racecourse from 23rd June to 14th September 2025.
