Racing to Zero Summer Mile Family Raceday S AT U R DAY 1 1 T H J U LY 2 0 2 6 Official Programme £5.00

Welcome Welcome to the second day of the Racing To Zero Summer Mile Racing Weekend. The Summer Mile Family Raceday is packed with activities for families to enjoy together here at Ascot. Across the site there are balloon modellers, arts and crafts, remote control cars and climbing walls to name just some of the entertainment off the track. Today is also the perfect chance to head to the Cedar Tree Lawn and say hello to our Equine Ambassador, Side Glance, who is now the star of a children’s book. Side Glance: Life After the Finish Line is available to buy in the Ascot Shop. Book readings and signings by author Laura Allain-Henry MBE and illustrator Lou Baker Smith will take place before racing. We are very pleased to offer £425,000 in prize money on today's seven-race card, where the feature race is the Juddmonte Summer Mile, a Group 2 event run over the Old Mile and worth £165,000. Last year, Never So Brave won the race for owner Saeed Suhail who bids to go back-to-back with Queen Anne Stakes runner-up More Thunder lining up in his colours. Zeus Olympios and Docklands also ran in the opening race of the Royal Meeting whilst Jonquil and Holloway Boy were first and second in the Paradise Stakes here in May so there is plenty of strong Ascot form on show. Our grateful thanks go to Juddmonte for their support of the wider British developmental race programme as they also sponsor the valuable Novice Stakes, the third race on the card. This weekend you can find out about Ascot’s sustainability initiatives, and those of our Official Partners, Sponsors and Suppliers, at our Sustainability Showcase located by the West Turnstiles. Our next meeting in two weeks’ time is the King George Weekend, featuring the King George VI and Queen Elizabeth Stakes - this year the race will be run for a record £2 million. We hope to welcome you back then. Yours sincerely,

Sir Francis Brooke Bt. His Majesty’s Representative & Chairman

RAC I N G PAG E S Your guide to all of today’s races

PAG E S 1 6 -1 9 1st Race 1.55pm The Club 26 Heritage Handicap Stakes Today’s opener is a five furlong handicap race for three-year-olds and upwards. The majority of handicaps are designed for horses from with a specific ratings band but this particular race has no rating restrictions attached to it which allows horses with a higher rating to take part. Despite having no rating restrictions attached to it the higher rated horses must still concede weight to their lower rated rivals, which tend to make open handicaps very competitive races. PAG E S 2 6 -27 2nd Race 2.27pm The Juddmonte Summer Mile Stakes (Group 2) The feature race of the day, this one mile race for four-year-olds and upwards is a Group 2 contest and will attract some high-class horses. Unlike in a handicap when a horse’s official rating reflects the weight that they must carry, in a Group 2 all runners carry the same weight regardless of any previous form. In this case colts and geldings carry 9st 3lb and fillies 9st although any runner which has already won a Group 2 race will be issued with a 3lb penalty while Group 1 winners will incur a 5lb penalty. PAG E S 3 0 - 3 2 3rd Race 3.02pm The Juddmonte EBF Restricted Novice Stakes This seven furlong Novice Stakes is restricted to two-year-olds who are EBF eligible, but in order to take part all of the runners must meet certain conditions. Unlike a maiden, which is restricted to horses yet to record a victory, winning horses which have run in a maximum of six races are eligible to run. Weights are set according to sex before previous winners are allocated penalties for each race one. PAG E S 3 8 - 39 4th Race 3.34pm The Ascot Hospitality Handicap Stakes Our fourth race is a one mile and six furlong handicap race for three-year-olds and upwards which have been rated from 76 to 95. In a handicap the weight that each of the runners carries is determined by their official handicap rating which is based on their level of form shown so far. The aim is to ensure competitive racing by asking the higher rated horses to carry more

weight than a lower rated rival. As a guide, horses rated 40 tend to be at the lower end of the scale whilst the very best performers would be rated as high as 130.

PAG E S 4 8 - 49 5th Race 4.12pm The Side Glance Story Book Launch Handicap Stakes This is a one mile and four furlong handicap race for three-year-olds and upwards which have been rated from 86 to 105. To qualify for a handicap rating horses must have run at least three times in a Flat race in Britain, or have run in no more than two Flat races run in Britain and won at least one of them. This rating then dictates the weight to be carried in a handicap. In simple terms a horse rated 105 in this particular race would be required to carry 5lb more than a rival rated 100. PAG E S 5 8 - 6 0 6th Race 4.45pm The Racing To Zero Fillies’ Handicap Stakes Our penultimate contest is a one mile handicap race for three-year-old and upwards fillies and mares which have been rated from 71 to 90. Once a horse has qualified for a handicap rating this is regularly reassessed. A below-par effort could result in a reduced rating whilst a strong performance could see the rating increased. Occasionally, horses are entered to race before their handicap rating has been reviewed and so to avoid recent winners being un-penalised they are allotted a mandatory penalty – usually 6lb. PAG E S 6 4 - 67 7th Race 5.20pm The Thames Hospice Trunks Across The Thames Handicap Stakes The final race of the day is a seven furlong handicap race for three-year-olds and upwards which have been rated from 61 to 80. Like most handicaps on the flat this race is also open to horses that are rated below that particular band. However, all handicaps stipulate a minimum weight and no runner can carry less than that, irrespective of how low their rating is. This is often described as ‘running from out of the handicap’ and is considered a disadvantage.

21. Weight (stones/pounds) 22. Official BHA Rating The BHA handicappers allot ratings to horses once they have taken part in a sufficient number of races to enable the handicappers to make a numerical assessment of each horse’s ability. The principal purpose of the ratings is to determine the weight to be carried by each runner in handicap races, with the handicappers aiming to provide each participant with an equal chance based on its best recent form under its optimum conditions. A horse rated 100, for example, would be set to carry 1lb more than a horse rated 99 (ignoring penalties and allowances). The ratings published in the racecard for handicap races are the ratings that were used to calculate the weight to be carried by each horse, whilst in non-handicapped races the rating shown is that of each runner at the time that the entries for the race were confirmed. Any subsequently published change in rating, either up or down, is shown in brackets following the rating. For novice steeple chasers, their latest hurdle race rating may be shown until such time as the handicappers allot a separate steeple chase rating. Such ratings are prefixed by the letter h. 23. Jockey’s name and photo If there is a number next to the name, this indicates that the jockey can claim that amount in weight (lbs) off the stated riding weight.

Greener Journeys for Our Community

As part of Ascot Racecourse Supports’ commitment to sustainability and community wellbeing, we are delighted to celebrate the impact of an electric minibus donated to local charity People to Places last year. The fully accessible vehicle is helping people across our community stay connected to the services, activities, friends and family that are so important to everyday life. Offering a quieter, smoother journey and producing zero tailpipe emissions, the bus is improving both accessibility and sustainability while supporting those who rely on community transport. Since joining the People to Places fleet, the electric minibus has carried 475 passengers and travelled 4,053 miles, avoiding an estimated 2.3 tonnes of carbon emissions compared with an equivalent diesel vehicle. The partnership highlights how local organisations can work together to create lasting positive impact, helping more people travel with confidence, comfort and dignity while reducing environmental impact. Today, People to Places are providing a shuttle service between Ascot Railway Station and Car Park 3 of the racecourse. The service is designed to make travel to and from the racecourse easier for guests arriving by train, while encouraging more sustainable transport choices and improving accessibility for all visitors. Ascot Supports The Next Generation Takes The Stage We are delighted to celebrate the creativity, innovation and achievements of young people from across our local community, as a series of Ascot Racecourse Supports youth programmes come to life here at the racecourse. Mycelium & Mushrooms with Busy Buttons CORE Charity As part of the Royal Windsor Flower Show on 6th June, we were proud to support Busy Buttons CORE Charity in delivering creative workshops across 10 local schools. Inspired by this year’s magical theme of Mycelium and Mushrooms, students used their imagination to contribute to a striking collaborative installation for the show. We are delighted to present the Ascot Racecourse Supports Challenge Cup to students from Heathermount School in recognition of their outstanding contribution. Elements of the show can also be seen this weekend on display in the Grandstand Concourse. Racing to Zero Sustainability Challenge 2026 In partnership with educational charity Learning to Work, we have delivered a series of workshops across five local schools, encouraging students to explore the impact of climate change and the steps being taken here at Ascot Racecourse to reduce our environmental footprint. Students were then invited to develop their own ideas to support our ambition of becoming net zero. We are pleased to welcome the winning teams to the racecourse this weekend for a bespoke programme of sustainability-focused activities, offering them further inspiration and a closer look behind the scenes.

Royal Ascot Fashion Design Competition 2026 Now a highlight of our community calendar, this year’s Fashion Design Competition saw students from 10 local schools/ colleges take on the challenge of designing an outfit for the Queen Anne Enclosure of Royal Ascot. Working alongside creative consultancy Colours Immortalis, participants developed their ideas through hands-on workshops while gaining valuable insight into the fashion industry.

Poppy Bergin in her winning design Royal Ascot 2026

Incorporating hats from the Royal Ascot Millinery Collective 2026, the 172 entries were judged by Daniel Fletcher, Creative Director of the Royal Ascot Handbook. The winner was 18-year-old Poppy Bergin from Charters School, Sunningdale who was then invited to bring her elegant and considered design to life for Royal Ascot 2026 at Daniel’s London studio. We are delighted that all of the entries are on display in the Grandstand Concourse today for you to see the creativity and talent that the competition showcased. Schools Bake-Off Competition 2026 Working once again with Learning to Work, more than 1,400 students took part in this year’s Bake-Off Competition, creating imaginative “honey” traybakes inspired by the theme set for 2026. Winning entries from Slough & Eton CofE Enterprise School and Whitegrove Primary School are now available to buy from our Lavazza Coffee outlets. We are also pleased to welcome the winners and runners-up to enjoy the raceday, celebrating their achievements and seeing their creations brought to life. Together, these programmes showcase the talent within our local schools and reflect our commitment to inspiring the next generation.

HYDROCONQUEST

Growing Something New at Ascot Ascot Racecourse is delighted to announce the launch of its very own vegetable plot at Jealott’s Hill Community Landshare CIC in Bracknell, a local charity that brings people together through gardening, growing and outdoor learning. Our 1711 Catering team have already begun planting a variety of herbs and vegetables, including squash and carrots, with plans to feature home-grown produce within our Fine Dining offer in the future, most likely in the Windsor Forest Restaurant. While the project is still in its early stages, we are excited about the opportunity to develop the plot year on year and explore how it can contribute to a more sustainable food journey from plot to plate. The initiative supports both our sustainability ambitions and colleague wellbeing, while strengthening our connection with the local community. Visitors today can also learn more about Jealott’s Hill Community Landshare and purchase some of the fresh produce grown on site. Be sure to stop by their stand at Stewards House Lawn and discover how this fantastic local charity is helping people, communities and nature to flourish.

Equine and human welfare at Ascot Racecourse

The safety and welfare of horses and jockeys is paramount throughout the year at Ascot. In recent years we have invested significantly to improve our facilities on and off the track to ensure we provide the very best care and attention for all participants. Nowhere is this better demonstrated than in the changes made to the racing surface itself during the redevelopment in 2006. The key elements of the project were to camber the home and old paddock bends and to remove the road crossings over the track, replacing them with underpasses. This created a safer surface for the horses, where previously some less experienced runners had occasionally shied at the differing surfaces. Further improvements to equine welfare provision were made as part of a £700,000 project to create an enhanced unsaddling area in 2016. Increased in size to accommodate large field races more comfortably, the Unsaddling Enclosure Lawn is positioned to benefit from maximum shade from the crown of an adjacent mature tree as well as a repositioned tulip tree, which sits to the south of the oval. Equine misting fans were also installed to aid with post-race cooling of horses.

Four specifically qualified equine vets are on duty every raceday, dedicated to the welfare of all the horses. During each race, vets follow the runners by car and can respond to and attend a casualty generally within a minute – as fast as the paramedic teams responsible for human casualties. Ascot’s two permanent veterinary boxes are supplemented with an X-Ray machine at all meetings to assist with swift diagnosis before administration of treatment on site or any movement necessary to equine hospitals. There are two equine ambulances on course at all times and three ambulances for any incidents involving injuries to jockeys. The jockeys’ facilities at Ascot include a medical treatment room, rest rooms and a dedicated room for physiotherapy. Further information on safety and welfare in horse racing can be found at horsepwr.co.uk

During each race vets follow the horse by car and can attend a casualty in the same response time as the paramedic teams responsible for human casualties. It is standard practice for screens to be fixed around any horse receiving veterinary treatment. This does not reflect the severity of an injury, just allows the vet some privacy and the patient a calm environment in which to recover. Please do not always assume the worst if you see screens around a fallen horse. ABANDONMENT POLICY In the event of racing being abandoned, refunds on entrance money and car parks will only be made in the following circumstances: a)

Abandonment before the running of the first race – full refund.

b)

Abandonment before the third or feature race, whichever is later – 50% refund

Where the provision of hospitality services has commenced and the raceday is subsequently abandoned there will be no refund for the hospitality. In the event of an abandonment there is no need to contact us, we will be in touch with next steps and any required actions. HBLB The Horserace Betting Levy Board (HBLB) has allocated £77.1m in prize money for 2026. Since 2000 HBLB has invested £1.5bn in prize money to support the British horseracing industry.
