Welcome to the opening day of the Racing To Zero Summer Mile Racing Weekend.
This year marks the 18th Property Raceday, which is always so well supported by the property industry and since launching it has raised £3.4 million for a variety of good causes Headlining the action today is the £50,000 Newmark EBF Fillies’ Handicap Stakes at 4.23pm whilst across the afternoon we are pleased to offer £185,000 in prize money.

We return to Ascot today after another exciting Royal Meeting, where we witnessed the very best the sport has to offer Whether it was Scandinavia’s tussle with Trawlerman in the Gold Cup, Ombudsman’s blistering victory in the Prince of Wales’s Stakes or the sensational four-way photo finish in the Queen Elizabeth II Jubilee Stakes, we were privileged to showcase some truly breathtaking moments on the track
It was fantastic to welcome Their Majesties The King and Queen for all five days and their continued patronage of Royal Ascot and racing as a whole, is so appreciated by us all.

We are delighted to celebrate the creativity and achievements of young people from our local community as Ascot Racecourse Supports programmes come to life across the racecourse. Our Racing to Zero Education Day welcomes 27 winning students from four local schools who took part in our recent Schools Challenge while all of the Royal Ascot Fashion Design Competition entries will be on display in the concourse.

The Tide Construction Apprentice Handicap Stakes
Today’s opener is a one mile handicap race for four-year-olds and upwards which have been rated from 66 to 85 In a handicap the weight that each of the runners carries is determined by their official handicap rating which is based on their level of form shown so far. The aim is to ensure competitive racing by asking the higher rated horses to carry more weight than a lower rated rival. As a guide, horses rated 40 tend to be at the lower end of the scale whilst the very best performers would be rated as high as 130

The Knight Frank Conditions Stakes
This race is a six furlong conditions stakes for two-year-olds The runners in this type of race are subject to specific conditions that often revolve around age or sex, or confine the race to horses that have yet to win above a particular level. In this instance, this race is restricted to those which have not won a Class 1 race in 2026

The JLL Handicap Stakes
Our third race is a one mile handicap race for three-year-olds which have been rated from 71 to 90 To qualify for a handicap rating horses must have run at least three times in a Flat race in Britain, or have run in no more than two Flat races run in Britain and won at least one of them. This rating then dictates the weight to be carried in a handicap In simple terms a horse rated 90 in this particular race would be required to carry 5lb more than a rival rated 85

The Long Harbour Handicap Stakes
The fourth race is a one mile and two furlong handicap race for three-year-olds and upwards which have been rated from 66 to 85 Once a horse has qualified for a handicap rating this is regularly reassessed. A below-par effort could result in a reduced rating whilst a strong performance could see the rating increased. Occasionally, horses are entered to race before their handicap rating has been reviewed and so to avoid recent winners being un-penalised they are allotted a mandatory penalty – usually 6lb

The Newmark EBF Fillies’ Handicap Stakes
Our feature race is a one mile and four furlong handicap race for three-year-old and upward fillies and mares which have been rated from 0 to 95 Like most handicaps on the flat this race is also open to horses that are rated below that particular band. However, all handicaps stipulate a minimum weight and no runner can carry less than that, irrespective of how low their rating is This is often described as ‘running from out of the handicap’ and is considered a disadvantage.

Our finale is a six furlong handicap race for three-year-olds and upwards which have been rated from 76 to 95 Like all handicaps on today’s card this means that should a horse rated 95 take part they would be required to carry 5lb more than a rival rated 90

The BHA handicappers allot ratings to horses once they have taken part in a sufficient number of races to enable the handicappers to make a numerical assessment of each horse’s ability. The principal purpose of the ratings is to determine the weight to be carried by each runner in handicap races, with the handicappers aiming to provide each participant with an equal chance based on its best recent form under its optimum conditions. A horse rated 100, for example, would be set to carry 1lb more than a horse rated 99 (ignoring penalties and allowances). The ratings published in the racecard for handicap races are the ratings that were used to calculate the weight to be carried by each horse, whilst in non-handicapped races the rating shown is that of each runner at the time that the entries for the race were confirmed. Any subsequently published change in rating, either up or down, is shown in brackets following the rating. For novice steeple chasers, their latest hurdle race rating may be shown until such time as the handicappers allot a separate steeple chase rating. Such ratings are prefixed by the letter h.

Mycelium & Mushrooms with Busy Buttons CORE Charity
As part of the Royal Windsor Flower Show on 6th June, we were proud to support Busy Buttons CORE Charity in delivering creative workshops across 10 local schools Inspired by this year’s magical theme of Mycelium and Mushrooms, students used their imagination to contribute to a striking collaborative installation for the show.
We are delighted to present the Ascot Racecourse Supports Challenge Cup to students from Heathermount School in recognition of their outstanding contribution. Elements of the show can also be seen this weekend on display in the Grandstand Concourse.
Racing to Zero Sustainability Challenge 2026
In partnership with educational charity Learning to Work, we have delivered a series of workshops across five local schools, encouraging students to explore the impact of climate change and the steps being taken here at Ascot Racecourse to reduce our environmental footprint.
Students were then invited to develop their own ideas to support our ambition of becoming net zero We are pleased to welcome the winning teams to the racecourse this weekend for a bespoke programme of sustainability-focused activities, offering them further inspiration and a closer look behind the scenes

Now a highlight of our community calendar, this year’s Fashion Design Competition saw students from 10 local schools/ colleges take on the challenge of designing an outfit for the Queen Anne Enclosure of Royal Ascot. Working alongside creative consultancy Colours Immortalis, participants developed their ideas through hands-on workshops while gaining valuable insight into the fashion industry

Equine and human welfare at Ascot Racecourse
The safety and welfare of horses and jockeys is paramount throughout the year at Ascot. In recent years we have invested significantly to improve our facilities on and off the track to ensure we provide the very best care and attention for all participants Nowhere is this better demonstrated than in the changes made to the racing surface itself during the redevelopment in 2006
The key elements of the project were to camber the home and old paddock bends and to remove the road crossings over the track, replacing them with underpasses
This created a safer surface for the horses, where previously some less experienced runners had occasionally shied at the differing surfaces
Further improvements to equine welfare provision were made as part of a £700,000 project to create an enhanced unsaddling area in 2016 Increased in size to accommodate large field races more comfortably, the Unsaddling Enclosure Lawn is positioned to benefit from maximum shade from the crown of an adjacent mature tree as well as a repositioned tulip tree, which sits to the south of the oval. Equine misting fans were also installed to aid with post-race cooling of horses
Four specifically qualified equine vets are on duty every raceday, dedicated to the welfare of all the horses During each race, vets follow the runners by car and can respond to and attend a casualty generally within a minute – as fast as the paramedic teams responsible for human casualties
Ascot’s two permanent veterinary boxes are supplemented with an X-Ray machine at all meetings to assist with swift diagnosis before administration of treatment on site or any movement necessary to equine hospitals
There are two equine ambulances on course at all times and three ambulances for any incidents involving injuries to jockeys.
The jockeys’ facilities at Ascot include a medical treatment room, rest rooms and a dedicated room for physiotherapy.

HORSE WELFARE
At all meetings there is a team of specially qualified vets appointed to look after the welfare of all horses. During each race vets follow the horse by car and can attend a casualty in the same response time as the paramedic teams responsible for human casualties. It is standard practice for screens to be fixed around any horse receiving veterinary treatment. This does not reflect the severity of an injury, just allows the vet some privacy and the patient a calm environment in which to recover. Please do not always assume the worst if you see screens around a fallen horse.
ABANDONMENT POLICY
In the event of racing being abandoned, refunds on entrance money and car parks will only be made in the following circumstances:
a) Abandonment before the running of the first race – full refund.
b) Abandonment before the third or feature race, whichever is later – 50% refund
Where the provision of hospitality services has commenced and the raceday is subsequently abandoned there will be no refund for the hospitality.
In the event of an abandonment there is no need to contact us, we will be in touch with next steps and any required actions.
HBLB
The Horserace Betting Levy Board (HBLB) has allocated £77.1m in prize money for 2026. Since 2000 HBLB has invested £1.5bn in prize money to support the British horseracing industry.
