WELCOME TO

It is a pleasure to welcome you to Aintree for our Halloween Family Day, and to the first fixture of the 2026/27 season. Today’s meeting marks the start of another exciting campaign, and we look forward to welcoming racegoers back for the three remaining fixtures this year as the Jumps calendar unfolds here at Aintree. Before the afternoon’s racing gets underway, we are delighted to showcase some of the sport’s future stars with two pony races at 11:45am and 11:55am. These races provide young riders with valuable experience and offer a fascinating glimpse of the next generation of talent that may one day grace our biggest racing stages. Today’s raceday is about much more than the action on the track. Families can enjoy a fantastic range of free entertainment throughout the afternoon, making this a fun-filled day out for racegoers of all ages alongside seven competitive races. I would like to thank today’s sponsors, William Hill, The Friends and Family of Jack Ryder and Disco Dave for their valued support. Today’s raceday is also in support of Little Lights Hospice, a local charity providing specialist palliative, respite and end-of-life care for babies and children with complex and serious medical conditions. Having been saved from closure by an extraordinary community campaign and wonderful philanthropy in 2024, Little Lights is now preparing to move into a new state-of-the-art hospice at Hayman’s Green in West Derby, due to open in March 2027. We would also like to thank the owners and trainers who have supported today’s meeting by bringing their horses to Aintree. Their commitment is fundamental to the success of our sport and helps provide the highly competitive racing we all enjoy. Thank you for joining us today and for supporting Little Lights Hospice. I hope you enjoy a fantastic day of racing, family entertainment and Halloween fun, and I wish all connections the very best of luck. Dickon White Regional Director

DON’T FORGET OUR NEXT MEETING SATURDAY 7TH NOVEMBER WILLIAM HILL AFTERNOON RACEDAY

BETTING EXPLAINED Select your horse. Note their name and saddlecloth number.

Decide the amount – or stake – you are comfortable to bet.

Choose your bet. ‘To win’ or ‘each-way’ are popular types of bet.

Place your bet. There are different places to bet on course; The Tote, racecourse bookmakers, betting shop or online. Each option offers a different experience.

‘To win’ is for your horse to come first. ‘Each-way’ is for your horse to come first or to be placed. It’s two bets, so ‘£2 each-way’ = £4 total bet.

Collect. Once ‘Weighed-in’ has been announced, present your betting slip and collect any winnings.

Visit www.racingexplained.co.uk for more information 8

Providing your complete betting service today Betting with Tote is available across the racecourse with a wide range of pool bets offered. No need to fill out a betting slip, simply tell one of our friendly team members your bet type, horses and how much you would like to spend. Any bets placed with Tote on course today help support racing as our profits are returned to the racecourse where the bet is placed.

Placing a Win bet? We pay whichever is more, the Tote pool price or the official Starting Price. If the SP pays more than Tote, we match it - guaranteed.

Need help picking? Ask for a Lucky Pick and our smart formula will do the hard work for you. Available on any bet, any race, just tell us how much you want to spend. Try a Lucky Pick wallet which includes a bundle of bets giving you multiple chances to win. THIRD RACE

TODAY'S RACE

VIEUX LION ROUGE A race has been named in honour of the Aintree legend Vieux Lion Rouge – The William Hill Vieux Lion Rouge Veterans’ Handicap Chase. Trained by David Pipe and owned by Professor Caroline Tisdall and John Gent, Vieux Lion Rouge became one of Britain’s most popular and durable National Hunt chasers. Across 41 starts, he won 13 races and earned over £340,000 in prize money. A true Aintree specialist, he captured the Becher Chase twice (2016 and 2020) and the 2017 Grand National Trial at Haydock. He ran in five Grand Nationals, finishing sixth in 2017, and holds the remarkable record for jumping more National fences than any other horse in modern times. Vieux Lion Rouge retired in early 2022 after a long and memorable career, before passing away at the age of 17 earlier this year. Everyone at Aintree Racecourse remembers Vieux Lion Rouge with great affection and our continued condolences go to all connections.

FIFTH RACE

An open-looking renewal of Britain’s first big chase of the autumn, BOOMBAWN selected to notch his third success over the larger obstacles having been given a recent pipe-opener over timber at Chepstow. Dan Skelton’s 9-y-o is 10lb lower than when fourth in this last year and the application of first-time headgear signals intent. Imperial Saint has a fine record here, so he heads up the dangers on reappearance, with last year’s winner Hitman completing the shortlist.

All horses must parade in the Parade Ring except by permission of the Stewards, but in all cases must pass through the Ring on the way to the Post. The Management reserves the right to refuse admission to anyone without assigning a reason for so doing.

PARADE RING ACCESS In the interests of safety, access to the parade ring is strictly limited to Owners and Trainers with runners in the race, British Horseracing Authority Officials and Racecourse Officials who are on duty at the meeting and Emergency Service Personnel. Those people holding badges or accreditation that allow access to the Parade Ring are asked to refrain from entering this area unless it is absolutely necessary in the course of their business.

PHOTOGRAPHY Racegoers may take photographs for private purposes in the public enclosures. Under no circumstances may photographs taken on the racecourse be used for publication without prior accreditation being obtained. Flash photography is not permitted anywhere in the Parade Ring or Winner’s Enclosure areas, or anywhere in the close vicinity of horses.

RACEHORSE & JOCKEY WELFARE The welfare of the sport’s equine and human participants is paramount to British Horseracing. All racehorses

competing in Britain are stabled at the premises of trainers who are licensed by The British Horseracing Authority. The standards demanded by The BHA of licensed racehorse trainers far exceed those prescribed by animal welfare legislation. The British Horseracing Authority similarly licenses every racecourse, setting high standards for the racing surface and all parts of the course used by competitors, both human and equine. BHA Officials ensure that racecourses delivers these standards. In addition Aintree Racecourse employs a minimum of three veterinary surgeons, whose sole responsibility it is to provide care to the horses throughout their time at the racecourse. In the event of an incident on the racecourse, any horse affected will receive immediate treatment from the racecourse’s veterinary team. Qualified paramedics and doctors are also on hand in the case of any incident involving a jockey. If any incident occurs during a race it is routine practice for screens to be erected around the horse or jockey receiving treatment. This is to allow the veterinary or medical personnel to make a safe and accurate diagnosis and so that they may perform any treatment in a private and calm environment. If necessary, horses and riders will be transported from the course to receive further treatment at the nearest equine hospital or Accident & Emergency hospital.
