Select your horse. Note their name and saddlecloth number

Choose your bet. ‘To win’ or ‘each-way’ are popular types of bet.

‘To win’ is for your horse to come first.

‘Each-way’ is for your horse to come first or to be placed. It’s two bets, so ‘£2 each-way’ = £4 total bet.

Decide the amount – or stake – you are comfortable to bet.

Place your bet. There are different places to bet on course; The Tote, racecourse bookmakers, betting shop or online. Each option offers a different experience.

Collect. Once ‘Weighed-in’ has been announced, present your betting slip and collect any winnings.

None ofthese can be ruled out but Neil Mulholland’s mare SAINTE DOCTOR is thriving of late and taken to quickly resume winning ways on the back of a very good Cheltenham second. Veteran Flic Ou Voyou also arrives in very good nick and rates the chief threat, although Dan Skelton’s Asta La Pasta is weighted to go very well too if shrugging off a lesser effort at Plumpton. Competitive despite the small field with IKE SPORT put forward as the suggestion. PLAY SMARTER

This looks wide open and it may be worth siding with SUNDAY SOLDIER, who completed a five-timer last spring and while she hasn’t managed to add to that winning spree in the intervening months, several creditable efforts in defeat have followed and she resumes from a break with her yard in good form. Last year’s winner Masked Dance should give another good account, while Irish import Wudya is one to note in the betting and Police Academy will also have a chance if ready to roll.

PLAY SMARTER

IT’S A LOVE THING has been in excellent order on the Flat in 2025 and with fitness assured, his hurdles mark looks within range. Trafalgar Square gets a handy 4-y-o allowance and if he settles as well as he did when winning at Hereford a month ago, he’ll be bang there again. Of the rest, Natzor is a potential improver on handicap debut.

RACEHORSE & JOCKEY WELFARE

The welfare of the sport’s equine and human participants is paramount to British Horseracing. All racehorses

competing in Britain are stabled at the premises of trainers who are licensed by The British Horseracing Authority. The standards demanded by The BHA of licensed racehorse trainers far exceed those prescribed by animal welfare legislation. The British Horseracing Authority similarly licenses every racecourse, setting high standards for the racing surface and all parts of the course used by competitors, both human and equine. BHA Officials ensure that racecourses delivers these standards. In addition Aintree Racecourse employs a minimum of three veterinary surgeons, whose sole responsibility it is to provide care to the horses throughout their time at the racecourse. In the event of an incident on the racecourse, any horse affected will receive immediate treatment from the racecourse’s veterinary team. Qualified paramedics and doctors are also on hand in the case of any incident involving a jockey. If any incident occurs during a race it is routine practice for screens to be erected around the horse or jockey receiving treatment. This is to allow the veterinary or medical personnel to make a safe and accurate diagnosis and so that they may perform any treatment in a private and calm environment. If necessary, horses and riders will be transported from the course to receive further treatment at the nearest equine hospital or Accident & Emergency hospital.
