THE JOCKEY CLUB WELCOMES YOU

GOOD AFTERNOON AND WELCOME BACK TO AINTREE FOR THE JEWSON HALLOWEEN FAMILY FUN DAY!

After a long summer the team and I couldn’t be more excited to see you all for the first meeting of our 2022/23 calendar. We have so much action to look forward to over the next seven months, and that starts right now with a fantastic seven-race card getting underway at 1.30pm.

The feature race today is the Jewson Old Roan Chase at 2.40pm a Grade Two race which was won by fan-favourite and Cheltenham Festival Ryanair Chase winner Frodon in 2018. Last year it was Harry Skelton and Allmankind who were first to pass the post and we’re really looking forward to finding out who the next winner will be I’d like to take this opportunity to thank Jewson for their support of today’s card and to wish them and their guests a wonderful day here at Aintree Racecourse. I also wish all trainers, owners, runners and riders the very best of luck here today. While there is an abundance of great racing to look forward to throughout the day, we also have some spooktacular entertainment for the whole family to enjoy including a ghost train, haunted house, Halloween treasure trail and face painters!

After today the next time we race is on the 5th November with the Boylesports Autumn Raceday, where we will be treated to some unmissable racing including the Boylesports Grand Sefton Chase which takes place over the iconic Grand National fences. Speaking of, we’re all systems go for next year’s Randox Grand National meeting, that will take place from the 13th 15th April 2023, with the Randox Grand National itself being staged on Saturday 15th. For more information on all of our fixtures over the coming months, please visit our website: https://www.thejockeyclub.co.uk/aintree/

While we have an incredible season to look forward to, for now I’d just like to wish everyone here today a wonderful day of autumnal family fun.

Choose your bet. ‘To win’ or ‘each-way’ are popular types of bet.

‘To win’ is for your horse to come first.

‘Each-way’ is for your horse to come first or to be placed. It’s two bets, so ‘£2 each-way’ = £4 total bet.

RETRAINING OF RACEHORSES (ROR) TRAINING CLINIC IN THE AINTREE EQUESTRIAN CENTRE FROM 11:30AM

Join the Retraining of Racehorses (RoR) the indoor arena from 11:30-13:00 for an insight into the versatility of the thoroughbred and their careers after racing.

Racegoers will have the opportunity to see some star names before the action even begins when several now-retired racehorses will be strutting their stuff as part of a showcase of their new careers.

A handful of horses under the care of the charity Retraining of Racehorses (RoR) will be taking part in a Training Clinic in the Aintree Equestrian Centre once the gates open at 11.30am.

Amongst them is the hugely-popular Might Bite, whose highlights during his career included victories at the Cheltenham Festival, in the King George VI Chase at Kempton Park and in the 2018 Grade One Betway Bowl at the Randox Grand National Festival.

The training will be delivered by Eric Smiley FBHS. Eric is an Olympic event rider and British Eventing Master Coach, he produced many thoroughbreds for successful careers in eventing including Badminton and the World & European Eventing Championships where he was twice a team medallist. He is also a Fellow of the British Horse Society and author of 3 Books.

Horses taking part include, Cheltenham festival and Aintree Betway Bowel winner MIGHT BITE, an ex National hunt horse, an ex flat horse and an ex Point to Pointer, so we have a great range of horses on display.

The ridden section will run from 11:30-12:45 followed by an open Q&A with Eric.

Vieux Lion Rouge will also parade in the Parade Ring between race 1 and race 2.

IF THE CAP FITS didn’t fully convince as a chaser as a novice in 2020/11 yet he still showed smart form, so could be worth chancing for a new yard off what looks a tempting mark. Potters Legend is another who’s lurking on a good mark if revived by another stable, while last year’s winner Wishing And Hoping should make another bold bid from the front.

Racehorse & Jockey Welfare

The welfare of the sport’s equine and human participants is paramount to British Horseracing. All racehorses competing in Britain are stabled at the premises of trainers who are licensed by The British Horseracing Authority. The standards demanded by The BHA of licensed racehorse trainers far exceed those prescribed by animal welfare legislation. The British Horseracing Authority similarly licenses every racecourse, setting high standards for the racing surface and all parts of the course used by competitors, both human and equine. BHA Officials ensure that racecourses delivers these standards. In addition Aintree Racecourse employs a minimum of three veterinary surgeons, whose sole responsibility it is to provide care to the horses throughout their time at the racecourse. In the event of an incident on the racecourse, any horse affected will receive immediate treatment from the racecourse’s veterinary team. Qualified paramedics and doctors are also on hand in the case of any incident involving a jockey. If any incident occurs during a race it is routine practice for screens to be erected around the horse or jockey receiving treatment. This is to allow the veterinary or medical personnel to make a safe and accurate diagnosis and so that they may perform any treatment in a private and calm environment. If necessary, horses and riders will be transported from the course to receive further treatment at the nearest equine hospital or Accident & Emergency hospital.
