WELCOME TO THE 2020 LADBROKES WINTER CARNIVAL As we approach the 2020 Ladbrokes Winter Carnival, which takes place on Friday 27 and Saturday 28 November, I am sure none of us quite imagined that six months ago we would be looking at the prospect of this meeting being run behind closed doors, but sadly, it now appears this is likely to be the case.

The Ladbrokes Trophy, formerly Hennessy Gold Cup has an illustrious history having been won by some of the biggest names in jump racing and has continued to deliver compelling storylines since Ladbrokes began a five year arrangement with the meeting in 2017. Their ongoing support and commitment to this meeting is gratefully, especially this year where their valuable contribution has allowed us to be able to run this year’s Ladbrokes Trophy for £200,000 which is 80% of the 2019 value.

Prize money on offer across the two days will be 76% of pre-COVID levels totalling £530,000 and the Grade 2 Ladbrokes Long Distance Hurdle will be run at last year’s value of £50,000. This is a significant investment in prize money for our flagship Jumps meeting during a very uncertain time for the business and the industry, which we hope will be welcomed and supported by you all and preparations are well underway for this year’s renewal.

Last year’s two-day meeting certainly didn’t disappoint and we were all delighted to see Paisley Park win the Ladbrokes Long Distance Hurdle for trainer, Emma Lavelle and owner, Andrew Gemmell and it didn’t stop there as both were back in the winners enclosure the following day after winning the Ladbrokes Trophy with De Rasher Counter for the Makin’ Bacon Partnership, with both horses due be back here at the end of November to defend their titles.

Once again, we will be offering travel allowances for overseas runners, details of which are outlined on the adjacent pages along with the conditions of all races and a breakdown of prize money for 2020.

Finally, thank you for your ongoing support of this fantastic meeting. We look forward to welcoming you and your runners to Newbury at the end of November and wish you the very best for the season ahead.

GENERAL INFORMATION Please note all procedures and protocols are aligned to BHA’s guidance for COVID and are subject to change. Any changes to procedures will be communicated in advance.

OVERSEAS RUNNERS Any overseas runners across the two days will be granted with following travel allowance based on the following criteria: £750 will be allocated to any overseas runner in the following races. The horse must be declared, run and not collect any prize money to qualify: - The Ladbrokes Novices' Chase (Class 1) (Grade 2) 4+ £30,000 2m 4f - The Ladbrokes Long Distance Hurdle (Class 1) (Grade 2) 4+ £50,000 3m ½f - Ladbrokes Mares' Novices' Hurdle (Class 1) (Listed Race) 4+ £20,000 2m ½f - The Ladbrokes John Francome Novices' Chase (Class 1) (Grade 2) 4+ £30,000 2m 7½f - The Ladbrokes Trophy Chase (Handicap) (Class 1) (Grade 3) 4+ £200,000 3m 2f - Ladbrokes Intermediate Hurdle (A Limited Handicap) (Class 1) (Listed Race) 4+ £30,000 2m ½f - £450 will be allocated to any overseas runner in any of the supporting races across the two days. The horse must be declared, run and not collect any prize money to qualify.

Enquiries should be made directly by emailing ownerstrainers@ newburyracecourse.co.uk BADGE ALLOCATION: As a result of COVID and reduced capacities, we are currently able to guarantee 3 badges for every runner via the PASS system and any additional badges will be allocated on request, by emailing the above email address. This is constantly being reviewed and more detailed communications will be sent out nearer the time, but we hope to be able to increase this number. Any owner attending will be required to complete the necessary BHA e-learning course in advance.

OWNERS AND TRAINERS FACILITIES: As a result of the ongoing pandemic, we are currently operating reduced capacities across the site, but will be offering full hospitality for all attending owners in a dedicated facility. Please be aware COVID restrictions may apply, including the use of face coverings and social distancing measures.

STAFF: All stable staff with valid ID will be provided with a complimentary hot meal with free tea, coffee and water available all day in The Lodge.
