RACEDAY SUNDAY 2 MAY 2021

WELCOME A very warm welcome to everyone taking the time to read our racecard for the opening day of our season proudly sponsored by MansionBet. We are delighted to open our 2021 season and begin racing again, but we have one huge regret in that no spectators are yet allowed into the grounds to enjoy the live action. We await details from government regarding when and how this will be possible, hoping that it will not be too long away. It’s been a stranger winter than any before, with the indoors team working at home and the outdoor team continuing to look after the huge grounds and facilities we have here at Hamilton Park. I would like to thank them all for ensuring we are ready for today as the whole site looks incredible. I am so pleased to welcome MansionBet as a new partner for the season and what better platform to have their name up in lights than our opening fixture, when we have two races live on ITV1? A huge thank you goes to all at MansionBet for the much appreciated investment in today’s card. The MansionBet Beaten by a Head Buttonhook Handicap goes off at 2.40pm with Mark Johnston sending a third of the field from his yard in Malton, then the MansionBet Odds Guaranteed EBF Tangerine Trees Conditions Stakes at 3.15pm sees a competitive field including last year’s new regular trainer at Hamilton Park, Archie Watson’s unbeaten Dragon Symbol vying for the honours. EBF also support this excellent race, which we are exceedingly grateful for. Before the ITV action gets underway, we will all be fixated with the first race of the day and of the season where Economic Crisis would become our winning-most horse ever with nine wins if she triumphs, over-taking Hopes N Dreams and Diet who are all currently tied on eight wins a piece – what an achievement that would be! As restrictions start to lift around the country, our own on-site hotel is back fully open welcoming all guests to stay. We were delighted this week to hear the team had been awarded the top spot of all the Hampton by Hilton hotels in the entire Europe, Middle East & Africa region, based on customer feedback for the first quarter this year. Despite the restrictions we have welcomed many essential workers through the doors and so it is great to hear their comments have been so incredibly positive. Why not book in yourself to experience the super service when you are next staying in the area? I hope you all enjoy the day’s racing whether you are here as a participant or official, or at home watching live on ITV1 and Racing TV. We will keep you all posted with developments of when I can welcome you back on site. Until then stay safe. Kind regards, VIVIEN CURRIE MBE, CHIEF EXECUTIVE

The aim is to ensure competitive racing by asking the higher rated horses to carry more weight than a lower rated rival. As a guide, horses rated 40 tend to be at the lower end of the scale whilst the very best performers would be rated as high as 130.

ONE MILE about FIVE FURLONGS (13f abt 16yds) (2600m)

2.40p.m. THE MANSIONBET BEATEN BY A HEAD BUTTONHOOK HANDICAP STAKES (CLASS 3) RACE DESCRIPTION This is a one mile and five furlongs handicap race for fouryear-olds and upwards which have been rated from 76 to 95. To qualify for a handicap rating horses must have run at least three times in a Flat race in Britain, or have run in no more than two Flat races run in Britain and won at least one of them. This rating then dictates the weight to be carried in a handicap. In simple terms a horse rated 95 in this particular race would be required to carry 5lb more than a rival rated 90.

Fourth Race

ONE MILE about THREE FURLONGS (11f abt 15yds) (2200m)

3.55p.m. THE MANSIONBET WATCH AND BET HANDICAP STAKES (CLASS 5) RACE DESCRIPTION This is a one mile about three furlongs handicap race for four-year-olds and upwards which have been rated from 51 to 70. Once a horse has qualified for a handicap rating this is regularly reassessed. A below-par effort could result in a reduced rating whilst a strong performance could see the rating increased. Occasionally, horses are entered to race before their handicap rating has been reviewed and so to avoid recent winners being un-penalised they are allotted a mandatory penalty, which is dependent on the age of the horse in this race.

FOR FOUR YRS OLD AND UPWARDS NUMBER OF DECLARED RUNNERS 7

4.55p.m. THE FOLLOW @mansionbet MAIDEN STAKES (CLASS 5) RACE DESCRIPTION This one mile contest for three-years-old and upwards is a maiden stakes - a race for horses that have yet to record a racecourse victory. There are a variety of reasons why the older horses in this race could still be maidens. Stoutly bred horses are unlikely to be seen at their best over the shorter distances of their juvenile season whilst a setback or injury can curtail even the most precociously bred horse’s twoyear-old career.

about SIX FURLONGS (6f abt 6yds) (1200m)

5.25p.m. THE DOWNLOAD THE MANSIONBET APP HANDICAP STAKES (CLASS 5) RACE DESCRIPTION The finale today is a six furlongs handicap race for four-year-olds and upwards which have been rated from 51 to 70. Like all handicaps on today’s card this means that should a horse rated 70 take part they would be required to carry 5lb more than a rival rated 65.

FOR FOUR YRS OLD AND UPWARDS NUMBER OF DECLARED RUNNERS 6

Owners Prize Money. Winner £2262; Second £1130; Third £566; Fourth £282; Fifth £240; Sixth £240. (Penalty Value £2862)

BETTING FORECAST: 2-1 Pearl of Qatar (GB), 10-3 Tanasoq (IRE), 4-1 Yukon Mission (IRE), 5-1 Kilconquhar (GB), 16-1 Firmdecisions (IRE), 40-1 Rain Cap (GB) RACE SUMMARY: YUKON MISSION was just touched off from a 1-lb higher mark at Goodwood on her final outing of last season and left the impression she would strip fitter for her reappearance at Redcar, so she gets the marginal vote with blinkers refitted. Recent Ayr scorer Pearl of Qatar is an obvious player and Tanasoq can’t be dismissed from an appealing mark. 1-2-3: 1.YUKON MISSION (IRE) 2.PEARL OF QATAR 3.TANASOQ (IRE)
