ZACHRY ENGINEERING EDUCATION COMPLEX RENOVATION AND EXPANSION Texas A&M University | College Station, Texas
The transformation of the Zachry Engineering Center into a new, state-of-the-art Engineering Education Complex included the demolition, renovation and reconstruction of the 1972 five-story, 300,000 SF building and the addition of 225,000 SF of new space. The complex includes new classrooms, laboratories for fluid mechanics, transport phenomena, materials, controls, cyber/physical, electrical sciences, measurements, and instrumentation, as well as a unit operations high bay laboratory. The structural scope included major structural demolition, extensive permanent shoring, design of an atrium infill with new learning stairs, a 3,500 SF skylight over the central atrium, a partial two-level vertical expansion, multi-level additions on the north and south ends and a 30,000 SF green roof. The civil scope included the engineering quad oval project and engineer’s walk pedestrian pathways. Multiple buildings and points of access resulted in significant challenges for pedestrian access and stormwater runoff.

The new support building for the new West Campus Housing District serves residential student needs through a full-service dining facility with seating for 400 students, resident life support space, social gathering space, academic and student support space. The 34,556 SF facility is in the southern quadrant of the 40-acre development designed to serve 2,400 students initially, but is planned for expansion to serve a future residential population of 4,000. The new academic building provides much needed instructional academic space and enhances the linkage between East Campus and West Campus. The 120,672 SF state-of-the-art building offers more than 2,200 seats across 10 classrooms, ranging from 72 to 630 seats on four levels, as well as relocates and centralizes instructional support for increased collaboration and overall effectiveness. In addition, the facility has more than 600 seats in collaboration study spaces for students inside and outside the building and a small cafe.



Texas A&M University Campuses TEXAS VETERINARY MEDICAL DIAGNOSTIC LABORATORY Texas A&M University | College Station, Texas This 93,000 SF, $53-million new facility on a 10-acre site provides one of the largest veterinary diagnostic laboratories in the country. In addition to integrated laboratory space to facilitate the more than 1,000 tests performed at TVMDL, the facility includes a full-service necropsy suite and biosafety level 2 and 3 labs, as well as office and conference space. West Texas A&M University | Canyon, Texas Going beyond the typical academic classroom and faculty environment, this 82,000 SF building includes a full meat science laboratory. Faculty offices, classrooms and research labs are located on the upper floors, and the meat science lab includes a harvest floor, a hot carcass cooler, an aging cooler, meat production and fabrication facilities, a kitchen, a smoker, a sensory lab and retail sales space. Adjacent to the academic building is an 18,000 SF multipurpose pavilion for students and the community. Additionally, a 60,000 SF covered arena seats approximately 300. All three buildings are connected via a central courtyard used for large events or a classroom.

The project includes a new 58,000 SF research facility on for the Dallas AgriLife Center on the Texas A&M AgriLife Research and Extension Center campus in Dallas. The facility includes an open-plan design that provides collaborative spaces including laboratories, plant growth facilities and a greenhouse, meeting and conference rooms, research offices, support spaces, multi-function and public spaces to showcase AgriLife programs and relevant urban technologies.

Texas A&M University Campuses DENTISTRY CLINICAL EDUCATION FACILITY AND PARKING GARAGE Texas A&M Health Science Center | Dallas, Texas This nine-story, 280,959 SF Dentistry Clinical Education Building includes nine different types of clinical environments with 355 total operatories ranging from general practice to prosthodontics and implant surgery, labs, classrooms, student spaces, offices and a rooftop central utility plant. The project also includes renovation of three labs (7,955 SF) within the existing Texas A&M Baylor College of Dentistry building. A parking garage provides 275 spaces for students and visitors. Designed to utilize the coastal environment it is set in, the Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi Tidal Hall Life Science Research Building houses laboratory spaces for graduate and doctoral-level programs. Tidal Hall consists of teaching labs, aquariums, marine-life observation rooms and zones that are designated for specific shared research functions like tissue culture and microscopy. Because the facility faces the bay, the overall design accommodates for the risk of hurricanes by placing the lab spaces in the center of the building. The perimeter acts as a protective shield that is primarily utilized for circulation. The new and innovative Tidal Hall aides in TAMU-CC’s pursuit of becoming of becoming a premiere research institution.

This new, 80,000 SF Music Education Complex expands the space needed to achieve the desired program for the vision of the music degree program while providing state-of-the-art music spaces as well as general teaching spaces, faculty offices / studios, and faculty support spaces. One of the goals of the new facility was to provide the Music Department with a dedicated performance space that can seat up to 500 people to improve the musical experience for the community and students. The structure includes a 70-foot clear height performance hall composed of steel frame backup and precast concrete wall panels for acoustic performance. The perimeter lecture and support spaces surrounding the performance hall were acoustically isolated with special connection details at interface with the performance hall.
