FRISCO PUBLIC LIBRARY ADAPTIVE REUSE
The adaptive re-use project will transform the former Beal Aerospace facility to the new Frisco Public Library. The roof and walls require significant structural modifications, and the enhancements are integrated into the design aesthetic. Civil engineering scope includes assessment of existing off-site utilities serving the building, design of new utilities, site grading to improve drainage, and respond to the architectural and landscape site design, creation of new accessible routes on the site, and design of new parking and entry plazas to enhance site usage. When complete, the library will be a 21st century dynamic model of experience-based use with broad sight lines and flexible and adaptable spaces. The 18,000 SF library serves the Vickery Meadow neighborhood for the City of Dallas. Located on a four-acre site, the library features an exterior plaza and a youth playground area. The library utilizes cutting edge design and technology to serve the ethnically diverse population of the area. As civil engineering consultant, JQ worked to develop a communitycentric site that’s accessible and inviting to pedestrians, serving as an anchor in the Vickery Meadow neighborhood. JQ was also in charge of the site paving, grading, drainage, utility services design.
