Welcome to Split for The Travel Network Group ‘Obsession’ conference.

It’s been nearly 18 months since we last came together for the ‘Shaping your Future’ conference in Lake Bled, and since then we have continued to achieve strong progress across our Group.

Consolidating all or our business operations to one Head Office site, continuously improving our processes and systems, developing strong teams in all areas of our business from Marketing and Membership Services through to Commercial and Operations & Risk, have all been priorities we have been ‘obsessing’ about and initiatives that are beginning to bear real fruit for our Members.

Our conference theme - ‘Obsession’ – not only underpins our Group values of being: Supportive, Target-Driven, Entrepreneurial and Passionate but best describes our ruthlessness over the last year in pursuing our Growth strategy and how we have continually challenged ourselves, our Members and our Business Partners in how they deal with us.

The conference programme for this year’s ‘Obsession’ Conference has been carefully planned to provide a thought-provoking and motivational weekend. Whilst we are in Split we will also will hear from industry experts on how they are embracing new technologies, approaching new consumer behaviors and trading in what is an everchallenging retail environment. And, our external speakers will give us a refreshing look at topics such as risk-taking, innovation and decisionmaking, and how world-class communication skills and long-term change in leadership ability can impact mindset and performance.

Conference is a time when we can come together to celebrate our achievements and plan for the future. It is also a time when we can take the opportunity to see old friends, make new

To host the event, and to have so many travel professionals here in Split, is a great honour.

From the spectacular Roman ruins of Diocletian’s Palace, a UNESCO World Heritage Site to the recently renovated Riva seafront and the fantastic array of restaurants and bars found within the city’s atmospheric old town, Split is a great combination of tradition and modernity, offering plenty to visitors.

There is also any number of beautiful islands just a short boat ride away, including the luxurious island of Hvar, Brač,

home to the stunning Zlatni Rat beach and Vis. However, there is more to Croatia than just coastline and tourists could visit one of the country’s eight national parks including the stunning Plitvice Lakes, or explore the wetlands of Kopački Rita in central Croatia. In the autumn, visitors could try their hand at truffle hunting in the Istrian forests, whilst an afternoon coffee on the streets of Zagreb is a year-round tradition.

Croatia welcomed 409,025 UK visitors in 2013, a year-on-year rise of 23 per cent, marking three years of continuous growth from the UK market to Croatia. We hope to build on this throughout 2014 as Croatia offers several destinations that can be visited pre and post high season.

Between January and July 2014, 231,794 British visitors travelled to Croatia, an increase of 11 per cent on the same period last year.

We entered the EU last year and we hope that this will continue to improve the image of Croatia and the tourism industry.

Keynote Speakers Caspar Berry Motivational speaker and trainer who uses the metaphor of poker to inspire his audiences Caspar Berry is a unique keynote and motivational speaker who draws on his career as a professional poker player and successful businessman. He takes a refreshing look at topics such as risk-taking, communicating, decision-making and innovating.

Casper read Economics and Anthropology at Cambridge and following his studies set his sights on becoming a professional film writer. By the time he was 23 he was writing for Miramax and Columbia Tri Star. Then at 25, he made a life-changing decision to move to Las Vegas and become a professional poker player!

Caspar played poker professionally for three years, during which time he made a living pitting his wits against the game’s best known players. In 2002, Caspar returned to the U.K and co-founded Twenty First Century Media and built it into the fastest growing audio visual media company in the North East of England. It was during his time at the helm of Twenty First Century media that he began his career as a speaker and catalyst for new thinking.

Clare Rayner The Retail Champion, is one of the most well-known and well respected retail experts in the UK Clare Rayner, The Retail Champion, is one of the most well-known and respected retail experts in the UK, championing for the success and sustainability of smaller, independent retailers and suppliers to retail.

Clare started out as a fast-track graduate store management trainee for McDonalds and went on to work with leading retailers such as M&S, Dixons and Argos. She moved swiftly into management roles before being headhunted into senior consulting roles with global software giant SAP, and international management consulting brand, Accenture.

In 2011 Clare was invited to launch Independent Retailer Month in the UK,

a global ‘Shop Local’ campaign which runs throughout July that has gained incredible momentum and reach under her leadership. As one of the FSB (Federation of Small Businesses) “Real Life Entrepreneur Champions”, Clare has been recognised by the UKs leading small business community as an inspirational role model for any start-up or small businesses.

A child born into a family of retailers and entrepreneurs, she is passionate about retail and business: it is in her blood. In Split she will be sharing with us what she considers to be the key success criteria for retailing today.

Andy Owen Jones Andy Owen Jones is an investor and consultant, focusing on travel technology and new media Andy Owen Jones is a technology and travel specialist. From being in brand management at British Airways to the GM of IT at Virgin Atlantic and latterly Director of Corporate Strategy at Amadeus and CEO of the leisure travel technology leader Traveltainment, he has a deep knowledge of multiple travel markets.

Since 2010 he has been an investor and consultant. His investments include Parstream, Studifi, Black Frog Holdings, Azuretrend, BD4Travel and Devisubox. He is currently CEO of bd4travel, a real time analytics business, non-Executive Director at Multicom and Chairman of Karibu Games.

Steve also held roles at Avis and Neilson, as well as board member positions at ABTA and ITT.

Jo has been in the industry for 30 years having held senior roles in Hertz and EuroDisney. Today Jo is responsible for the total sales and revenue of Celebrity Cruises in the UK & Ireland having joined the Royal Caribbean International group in 2005. She is Chairman of CLIA UK & Ireland and is widely recognised as one of the cruise industry’s ambassadors.

Martin joined the Group in 2012 and has 25 years of experience in the travel and tourism industry including senior roles at Affinion Travel, RCI, Airtours/MyTravel Group and Hogg Robinson. He began his career at a small independent family owned travel business in Scotland.

Simon has had a career in the industry that spans 25 years and has held senior roles with Travel Weekly Group, Reed Publishing and Travel Zoo. He founded and launched Travolution, the leading online travel media brand, and took up his current role with Travelport in 2011.

In the plenary session you had a whirlwind tour of some of the ingredients that make up the 10 steps to retail success.

Following Andy’s keynote address on the main stage he will be running a workshop looking at new types of travel retailing that are made possible by applying his ideas and will look at how this may affect the way travel is sold.

Adrian Johnson is the MD and founder of Umpf, a top ten UK social media agency. He advises clients on how to run effective social media campaigns – from setting strategies and objectives, creating bespoke social media campaigns and stunts through to content creation and community management.

In this workshop session you get to dig a little deeper, as Clare describes and shares tried and tested techniques that you can use back in your business.

Another fast-paced session, cramming 3 hours into 45-minutes... but for those who want to up their game and who are obsessed about growing their business, it is a not-to-be-missed session.

If you could predict what your customer would do as they were shopping would it change what you do in your shop, your call centre or on your website? Some of your competitors are starting to use these techniques.

This workshop will help you get your head around the implications.
