University and Athletic Administration University President Dr. Christopher

Dr. Christopher M. Fiorentino enters his eighth and final year as president of West Chester University. With 40 years of higher education and administration experience at West Chester University, Fiorentino announced his retirement prior to the beginning of the 2023-24 academic year. He will step down as university president in June 2024. Fiorentino, who holds three degrees in economics (baccalaureate, master’s and doctorate) from Temple University, joined WCU’s economics faculty in 1983. His role evolved from assistant professor to dean of the College of Business and Public Administration to vice president for External Operations to his current position of university president. Dr. Fiorentino has been active in numerous leadership roles on campus, helping to secure AACSB International accreditation for the School of Business; developing off-campus academic centers, including the Graduate Center in West Goshen Township; and working with faculty and supporters to create the Cottrell Entrepreneurial Leadership Center. Dr. Fiorentino also spearheaded the development of the Center for Community Solutions, which links business and civic leaders with appropriate University faculty and staff. His responsibilities in his last position included University operations at the State System’s Center City Philadelphia site. Dr. Fiorentino is married to WCU alumnae, Dr. Susan Fiorentino, ’86, a Professor in the Management Department at West Chester University where she is currently serving as Coordinator for the Master of Science in Human Resource Management program. The Fiorentinos have three children: Greg, a software engineer and WCU alum; Diana Marlin, a WCU grad and registered dietitian; and Jeff, a Penn State University graduate.

Director of Athletics Terry Beattie

Terry Beattie begins his eighth athletic campaign as the Director of Athletics at West Chester University. Overall, Beattie enters into his 18th season with West Chester University’s Department of Athletics. Previous to being named the Interim AD in 2017, Beattie served as the Associate AD overseeing facilities and game day operations. He also oversaw all of the grounds and equipment room operations for the athletic department. A 31-year veteran in college athletics, Beattie recently spearheaded the development of the Michael Horrocks Emerging Leaders Institute at WCU, which provides leadership training and development to a select group of outstanding student athletes who, as recognized future leaders, will be taking on the mantle of leadership within their team sometime in the future. He has also served on a number of strategic planning committee’s both within the athletic department and in conjunction with the university. In his seven years as the university’s athletics director, Beattie created a Sports Performance aspect to the athletic department implementing additional resources from which WCU student-athletes could benefit. His collaboration with a number of other areas on campus gives student-athletes access to mental health and sport psychology experts, an expanded and much improved strength and conditioning program as well as education on sport nutrition. His work in the field of Sport Leadership Training gives West Chester University’s coaching staff and administrators access to some of the cutting edge research on how to become a better leader, coach and mentor to young adults. A member of the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA), Beattie was recently named the chair of the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Athletic Administrators for the 2023-24 campaign. He has also served roles on the NCAA regional and national advisory committees overseeing selections to the NCAA Division II Tournament in a variety of sports. A native of Rochester, N.Y., Beattie has an extensive background in college athletics dating back to 1991. Beattie, 54, is 1991 graduate of Alfred University in Alfred, N.Y., with a degree in Business Administration. He completed his master’s degree in Sport Administration at Canisius College in 1999. He received a tenured promotion to Assistant Professor at West Chester University in April 2009.

(0-3)

Head Coach: Kerry Jenkins

Career Record: (121-223)

Opening Tip...Off to a 2-0 start for the time since the 2017-18 season, West Chester will look to accomplish something it has not done since head coach Kiera Wooden’s first season in 2014-15, start the year a perfect 3-0. In 2014-15, West Chester won its first eight games of the season before being tripped up by Gannon, eventually reaching the PSAC Championship game at the end of that season and concluding the year with 24 wins after an NCAA Tournament loss by an 88-85 final to West Liberty. West Chester appears well-positioned to accomplish this 3-0 start in 2023-24, facing off against a winless Wilmington team whom the Golden Rams have topped in each of the first 11 meetings. WCU Women’s Basketball Notes ... West Chester embarks upon the 2023-24 season following a 2022-23 campaign, which saw the team play to a record of 24-9 overall and 18-4 in league play, culminating in the team earning a share of its first Eastern Division title since 2018. The Golden Rams returned to the NCAA Tournament for the first time since the 2018 season, recording its first NCAA Tournament victory in 20 years with an 80-67 win over Cal before advancing to its first Regional Final in program history against Glenville State to conclude the 2022-23 season. To begin the 2023-24 season, the 13th-ranked Golden Rams earned a pair of victories over CIAA foes Elizabeth City State University on Saturday night and Livingstone on Sunday afternoon. West Chester improved to 14-2 in Hollinger over the last two seasons with these victories, extending its streak to nine in a row, with its last home setback coming against Shippensburg on January 11 of last year. Michelle Kozicki helped guide West Chester to victory on opening night, finishing with 20 points and 14 rebounds, but it was Emily McAteer who led the team on Sunday, finishing with 21 points and 10 rebounds in the victory. Leah Johnson, Anna McTamney, and Jayde Boyd have all scored in double figures in the first two games of the season, averaging 16, 14, and 11 points per game, respectively. Wilmington Women’s Basketball Notes... For its part, Wilmington enters Wednesday with a mark of 0-3 on the year after falling to Bowie State on Wednesday night by a 65-40 final on Wednesday night in its third home game to open the season. On Wednesday night, Wilmington was tied with Bowie State at 14-14 after the first quarter but fell upon hard times in the second, mustering just three points on 1-of-10 shooting as the visiting Bulldogs carried a 33-17 lead into the halftime break. In the second half, Wilmington attempted to mount a comeback but could not fight its way all the way back into the game, falling by a 65-40 final, despite a pair of 10-point performances by Amber Washington and Mia Fuller. Daja Claiborne nearly recorded a double-double on Wednesday, finishing with 12 rebounds and nine points on 4-of-10 shooting from the field and a 1-of-2 effort at the line. The Wildcats opened the year against New Haven on Friday, November 10, falling to the Chargers by an 81-21 final before squaring off against the University of the District of Columbia by a 72-46 final on Saturday evening. Wilmington enters play on Saturday afternoon, averaging 35.7 points per game, shooting just 24.1 % from the field and 14.9 % from beyond the arc, led by a 6.7 point per game scoring average by Fuller and Washington. Fuller, who leads the team in three-point shooting, shooting 25.0 % on the year, also leads the squad in assists, averaging 2.7 helpers per contest. For her part, Washington ranks among the team leaders in rebounding, averaging 5.3 boards per game, which is second on the team, trailing only Daja Claiborne, who leads the group, averaging 5.7 rebounds per contest, including 5.0 defensive rebounds per game. Up next for the Golden Rams ... West Chester will conclude its longest homestand of the season on Monday night against Chestnut Hill, beginning at 5:30 p.m. before heading into Philadelphia after Thanksgiving to take on Jefferson on Sunday, November 26, beginning at 1 p.m. This trip away from Hollinger will last only one day as the Golden Rams return home for a three-game homestand in early December, starting crossover play on the 1st and 2nd against Slippery Rock and Edinboro before facing Lincoln on Tuesday, December 5th, beginning at 5:30 p.m.

The former Golden Rams standout won the most games by any WCU women’s head coach over their first five years running the program and landed her charges in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Tournament all five times while adding an NCAA Tournament appearance three times. Wooden’ brings an overall record of 136-97 (.584) into the 2023-24 campaign and an 107-69 (.619) mark against conference competition. Additionally, Wooden shows a 6-7 record in the PSAC Tournament and a 2-4 record in her four trips to the NCAA Atlantic Regional. In 2022-23, Wooden engineered one of the most impressive year-to-year turnarounds in program history, leading West Chester to a share of its first PSAC East Regular Season title since 2017-18, a PSAC Tournament Semifinal appearance, its first NCAA Tournament win in 20 years, and its first Regional Championship appearance in program history. Ending the year with a record of 24-9, which is tied for the most wins Wooden has recorded in a single season since her first year in 2014-15 when the team went 24-6, the Golden Rams returned to the NCAA Tournament as a three seed, the team’s highest seeding since the field expanded to 64 teams in 2003. Wooden, who was named PSAC East Coach of the Year for the second time in her career, mentored four All-Conference honorees, including first-team selections Leah Johnson and Emily McAteer, along with second-team honorees Anna McTamney and PSAC East Defensive Player of the Year Michelle Kozicki. As a team, West Chester boasted one of the top offensive units in the PSAC, averaging 72.8 points per game, thanks to a 44.2 % field goal percentage and a program DII record 77.2 % free-throw shooting percentage. She could not have set the bar any higher for herself, after leading West Chester to a combined 45-14 record in her first two campaigns. The WCU alumnae has picked up three PSAC East title (2016, 2018, 2023), a spot in the PSAC Championship Game (2015) and four trips to the NCAA Tournament (2015, 2016, 2018, 2023) in her first 10 seasons at the helm. The Wilmington, Del., native played all four years at WCU under Deirdre Kane, earning PSAC Eastern Division first team honors on three different occasions. During her first season in 1999-2000, Wooden, who played under her maiden name, Kiera Manlove, was named the PSAC East Rookie of the Year. Wooden was named the team’s MVP on three different occasions and claimed outstanding scholar-athlete honors twice. She currently ranks fifth all-time in scoring with 1,378 points and stands 11th in scoring average at 12.2 points per game. Wooden holds the school record for field goals made (569), ranks fourth in field goal attempts (1,300), sixth in free throws made (240) and fourth in free throws attempted (408). Wooden also ranks second all-time in WCU history in rebounds (871) and third in steals (259) while her 7.7 rebounds per game average stands fifth.
