University and Athletic Administration University President Dr. Christopher

Dr. Christopher M. Fiorentino enters his eighth and final year as president of West Chester University. With 40 years of higher education and administration experience at West Chester University, Fiorentino announced his retirement prior to the beginning of the 2023-24 academic year. He will step down as university president in June 2024. Fiorentino, who holds three degrees in economics (baccalaureate, master’s and doctorate) from Temple University, joined WCU’s economics faculty in 1983. His role evolved from assistant professor to dean of the College of Business and Public Administration to vice president for External Operations to his current position of university president. Dr. Fiorentino has been active in numerous leadership roles on campus, helping to secure AACSB International accreditation for the School of Business; developing off-campus academic centers, including the Graduate Center in West Goshen Township; and working with faculty and supporters to create the Cottrell Entrepreneurial Leadership Center. Dr. Fiorentino also spearheaded the development of the Center for Community Solutions, which links business and civic leaders with appropriate University faculty and staff. His responsibilities in his last position included University operations at the State System’s Center City Philadelphia site. Dr. Fiorentino is married to WCU alumnae, Dr. Susan Fiorentino, ’86, a Professor in the Management Department at West Chester University where she is currently serving as Coordinator for the Master of Science in Human Resource Management program. The Fiorentinos have three children: Greg, a software engineer and WCU alum; Diana Marlin, a WCU grad and registered dietitian; and Jeff, a Penn State University graduate.

Director of Athletics Terry Beattie

Terry Beattie begins his eighth athletic campaign as the Director of Athletics at West Chester University. Overall, Beattie enters into his 18th season with West Chester University’s Department of Athletics. Previous to being named the Interim AD in 2017, Beattie served as the Associate AD overseeing facilities and game day operations. He also oversaw all of the grounds and equipment room operations for the athletic department. A 31-year veteran in college athletics, Beattie recently spearheaded the development of the Michael Horrocks Emerging Leaders Institute at WCU, which provides leadership training and development to a select group of outstanding student athletes who, as recognized future leaders, will be taking on the mantle of leadership within their team sometime in the future. He has also served on a number of strategic planning committee’s both within the athletic department and in conjunction with the university. In his seven years as the university’s athletics director, Beattie created a Sports Performance aspect to the athletic department implementing additional resources from which WCU student-athletes could benefit. His collaboration with a number of other areas on campus gives student-athletes access to mental health and sport psychology experts, an expanded and much improved strength and conditioning program as well as education on sport nutrition. His work in the field of Sport Leadership Training gives West Chester University’s coaching staff and administrators access to some of the cutting edge research on how to become a better leader, coach and mentor to young adults. A member of the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA), Beattie was recently named the chair of the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Athletic Administrators for the 2023-24 campaign. He has also served roles on the NCAA regional and national advisory committees overseeing selections to the NCAA Division II Tournament in a variety of sports. A native of Rochester, N.Y., Beattie has an extensive background in college athletics dating back to 1991. Beattie, 54, is 1991 graduate of Alfred University in Alfred, N.Y., with a degree in Business Administration. He completed his master’s degree in Sport Administration at Canisius College in 1999. He received a tenured promotion to Assistant Professor at West Chester University in April 2009.

(2-2)

Head Coach: Reggie Daniels

Career Record: (4-22)

Opening Tip...Off to a 3-0 start for the time since the 2014-15 season, West Chester has looked every bit as impressive as its record would indicate through the first three games of the season. After a hard-fought victory on opening night over Elizabeth City State, West Chester enters play on Monday, having not trailed in 408 minutes (dating back to the fourth quarter of the victory over ECSU). West Chester concludes its longest homestand of the season on Monday night when Chestnut Hill visits Hollinger Field House once again. West Chester holds a 3-1 lead in the all-time series against the Griffins, including a road victory a year ago, which saw the team hold on for a 57-53 triumph. The last time Chestnut Hill visited Hollinger, things ended in heartbreak for the Golden Rams as the Griffins escaped with an 80-68 victory over the Golden Rams. West Chester led for much of the game in this meeting during the 2021 season, but a late 14-0 run for Chestnut Hill, combined with 32 trips to the line for the visitors, allowed Chestnut Hill to rally and steal the victory late. WCU Women’s Basketball Notes ... West Chester enters play on Monday night after another convincing victory, dismantling CACC foe Wilmington by a 69-21 final in Hollinger on Saturday afternoon. West Chester took the lead with just over nine minutes to play in the first quarter and never looked back, taking a 19-2 lead into the second quarter and eventually extending its lead to as many as 50 in the dominant victory. No member of the West Chester starting five played longer than 23 minutes on Saturday afternoon, but this did little to stop two of the Golden Rams from finishing in double figures as Michelle Kozicki led all scorers with 16 points in just 12 minutes of work, while Leah Johnson added 10 of her own on 4-of-7 shooting, including a team-best 2-for-3 from deep in just 22 minutes on Saturday. West Chester also ended the game with a +28 (58-30) lead in rebounding, increasing its rebounding margin on the season to +18.0, which ranks fourth best in all of Division II women’s basketball. After recording its best free-throw shooting percentage in DII program history a year ago, West Chester has picked up right where it left off in 2023-24, converting 81.6 % (62-of-76) of its trips to the line so far this season. From the field, West Chester has overcome some lackluster three-point shooting early in the season (shooting just 22.1 %) from deep to shoot 42.3 % from inside the arc, converting on 52-of-114 attempts in two-point territory. With her 16 points on 6-of-8 shooting on Saturday afternoon, Kozicki moved back into first on the team in scoring, averaging 14.3 points per game, just one point (43-42) ahead of Johnson, who ranks second on the team, averaging 14.0 points per game as she continues her quest for the program scoring record. Chestnut Hill Women’s Basketball Notes... For its part, Chestnut Hill enters Monday with a record of 2-2 following a 62-58 victory over Bloomsburg on Saturday afternoon. At Bloomsburg on Saturday afternoon, Chestnut Hill was tied at the end of the first quarter at 2020 but outscored its hosts by seven in the second and third quarters to escape with a four-point victory over the Huskies. This triumph evens the Griffins at 2-2 on the year, as the team has split its first four games of the season. Chestnut Hill opened the year with an 82-73 loss at Molloy before defeating Queens the next day by a 63-46 final to end the opening weekend 1-1. The Griffins opened their home slate on Wednesday, November 15, against the University of the District of Columbia, falling to the Firebirds by a 64-60 margin before bouncing back at Bloomsburg on Saturday afternoon. Newcomer Birdie McCann is the Griffins leading scorer so far this season, averaging 13.8 points per game, while Emily Sekerak and Avery White join her in double figures, averaging 12.5 and 10.5 points per game, respectively. Kaitlyn Carter, who is fourth on the team in scoring, averaging 8.3 points per game, also leads the squad in rebounding, averaging 8.8 rebounds per game, while Sekereak is second on the team, averaging 7.8 rebounds of her own. Caleigh Edwards and Avery White rank first and second on the team in assists, averaging 3.5 and 2.8 helpers per game to help run the Griffin offense, which averages 64.5 points per game on 36.4 % shooting from the field through the first two weeks of the regular season. Up next for the Golden Rams ... West Chester plays its final home game of November today against Chestnut Hill before heading to Jefferson on Sunday afternoon for a 1 p.m. tip. West Chester will return home quickly, returning to Hollinger for a three-game homestand to begin December, welcoming Slippery Rock, Edinoro, and Lincoln to University Avenue on the 1st, 2nd, and 5th.

The former Golden Rams standout won the most games by any WCU women’s head coach over their first five years running the program and landed her charges in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Tournament all five times while adding an NCAA Tournament appearance three times. Wooden’ brings an overall record of 136-97 (.584) into the 2023-24 campaign and an 107-69 (.619) mark against conference competition. Additionally, Wooden shows a 6-7 record in the PSAC Tournament and a 2-4 record in her four trips to the NCAA Atlantic Regional. In 2022-23, Wooden engineered one of the most impressive year-to-year turnarounds in program history, leading West Chester to a share of its first PSAC East Regular Season title since 2017-18, a PSAC Tournament Semifinal appearance, its first NCAA Tournament win in 20 years, and its first Regional Championship appearance in program history. Ending the year with a record of 24-9, which is tied for the most wins Wooden has recorded in a single season since her first year in 2014-15 when the team went 24-6, the Golden Rams returned to the NCAA Tournament as a three seed, the team’s highest seeding since the field expanded to 64 teams in 2003. Wooden, who was named PSAC East Coach of the Year for the second time in her career, mentored four All-Conference honorees, including first-team selections Leah Johnson and Emily McAteer, along with second-team honorees Anna McTamney and PSAC East Defensive Player of the Year Michelle Kozicki. With her Defensive Player of the Year honors, Kozicki became the first Golden Ram to receive this award since Alexandra Lennon in the 2012-13 season. As a team, West Chester boasted one of the top offensive units in the PSAC, averaging 72.8 points per game, thanks to a 44.2 % field goal percentage and a program DII record 77.2 % free-throw shooting percentage. She could not have set the bar any higher for herself, after leading West Chester to a combined 45-14 record in her first two campaigns. The WCU alumnae has picked up three PSAC East title (2016, 2018, 2023), a spot in the PSAC Championship Game (2015) and four trips to the NCAA Tournament (2015, 2016, 2018, 2023) in her first 10 seasons at the helm. The Wilmington, Del., native played all four years at WCU under Deirdre Kane, earning PSAC Eastern Division first team honors on three different occasions. During her first season in 1999-2000, Wooden, who played under her maiden name, Kiera Manlove, was named the PSAC East Rookie of the Year. Wooden was named the team’s MVP on three different occasions and claimed outstanding scholar-athlete honors twice. She currently ranks fifth all-time in scoring with 1,378 points and stands 11th in scoring average at 12.2 points per game. Wooden holds the school record for field goals made (569), ranks fourth in field goal attempts (1,300), sixth in free throws made (240) and fourth in free throws attempted (408). Wooden also ranks second all-time in WCU history in rebounds (871) and third in steals (259) while her 7.7 rebounds per game average stands fifth. Wooden, a 2003 graduate of West Chester University with a degree in Exercise Science/Kiniesiology and three minors (Nutrition, Health, Coaching) went on to earn her master’s degree in Sports and Athletic Administration at West Chester University in 2006.
