University and Athletic Administration University President Dr. Christopher

Dr. Christopher M. Fiorentino enters his eighth and final year as president of West Chester University. With 40 years of higher education and administration experience at West Chester University, Fiorentino announced his retirement prior to the beginning of the 2023-24 academic year. He will step down as university president in June 2024. Fiorentino, who holds three degrees in economics (baccalaureate, master’s and doctorate) from Temple University, joined WCU’s economics faculty in 1983. His role evolved from assistant professor to dean of the College of Business and Public Administration to vice president for External Operations to his current position of university president. Dr. Fiorentino has been active in numerous leadership roles on campus, helping to secure AACSB International accreditation for the School of Business; developing off-campus academic centers, including the Graduate Center in West Goshen Township; and working with faculty and supporters to create the Cottrell Entrepreneurial Leadership Center. Dr. Fiorentino also spearheaded the development of the Center for Community Solutions, which links business and civic leaders with appropriate University faculty and staff. His responsibilities in his last position included University operations at the State System’s Center City Philadelphia site. Dr. Fiorentino is married to WCU alumnae, Dr. Susan Fiorentino, ’86, a Professor in the Management Department at West Chester University where she is currently serving as Coordinator for the Master of Science in Human Resource Management program. The Fiorentinos have three children: Greg, a software engineer and WCU alum; Diana Marlin, a WCU grad and registered dietitian; and Jeff, a Penn State University graduate.

Director of Athletics Terry Beattie

Terry Beattie begins his eighth athletic campaign as the Director of Athletics at West Chester University. Overall, Beattie enters into his 18th season with West Chester University’s Department of Athletics. Previous to being named the Interim AD in 2017, Beattie served as the Associate AD overseeing facilities and game day operations. He also oversaw all of the grounds and equipment room operations for the athletic department. A 31-year veteran in college athletics, Beattie recently spearheaded the development of the Michael Horrocks Emerging Leaders Institute at WCU, which provides leadership training and development to a select group of outstanding student athletes who, as recognized future leaders, will be taking on the mantle of leadership within their team sometime in the future. He has also served on a number of strategic planning committee’s both within the athletic department and in conjunction with the university. In his seven years as the university’s athletics director, Beattie created a Sports Performance aspect to the athletic department implementing additional resources from which WCU student-athletes could benefit. His collaboration with a number of other areas on campus gives student-athletes access to mental health and sport psychology experts, an expanded and much improved strength and conditioning program as well as education on sport nutrition. His work in the field of Sport Leadership Training gives West Chester University’s coaching staff and administrators access to some of the cutting edge research on how to become a better leader, coach and mentor to young adults. A member of the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA), Beattie was recently named the chair of the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Athletic Administrators for the 2023-24 campaign. He has also served roles on the NCAA regional and national advisory committees overseeing selections to the NCAA Division II Tournament in a variety of sports. A native of Rochester, N.Y., Beattie has an extensive background in college athletics dating back to 1991. Beattie, 54, is 1991 graduate of Alfred University in Alfred, N.Y., with a degree in Business Administration. He completed his master’s degree in Sport Administration at Canisius College in 1999. He received a tenured promotion to Assistant Professor at West Chester University in April 2009.

Career Record: (4-35)

Opening Tip...After racing out to a record of 7-1 to open the year and improving to 8-3 with a win over Clarion on December 30, the West Chester University women’s basketball team enters today looking to get back on track after falling to Cal and PSAC-East leader Lock Haven a week ago. West Chester appears poised to bounce back in a big way this week as the Golden Rams are a perfect 8-0 in Hollinger Field House and have won seven of those eight games by 15 points or more, with the lone exception being a 77-69 win over Elizabeth City State University in the season opener. Tonight, West Chester will face Shepherd, looking to extend its winning streak against the Rams to three in a row and move closer to evening the all-time series against the Rams. West Chester began its history against Shepherd with a win in November of the 2002-03 season before hitting difficult times against the PSAC’s southern-most member in the first few years of Shepherd being in the PSAC. A year ago, West Chester swept the season series, claiming a 68-42 victory on the road and a 94-47 win in Hollinger, which halted a five-game losing streak against Shepherd. In Hollinger a year ago, West Chester was locked in a good one early, leading by just four at the end of the first quarter but led by 17 at the half and pulled away in the second half for the victory. Michelle Kozicki led the Golden Rams in scoring in this victory, finishing with 20 points on 8-of-12 shooting, while Leah Johnson added 17 of her own to go along with nine assists. What’s Happening on the Floor... Before tonight’s game, West Chester will honor grad transfer Jayde Boyd for scoring her 1,000th career point in a win over Clarion on December 30. Boyd scored just over 900 of her 1,000 points away from West Chester, beginning her career at Fairleigh Dickinson before playing the remainder of her undergraduate career at Mercyhurst. WCU Women’s Basketball Notes ... West Chester enters play on Wednesday looking to halt a two-game losing streak and avoid its first three-game or longer skid since the 2021-22 campaign. On Saturday at Lock Haven, West Chester led for almost 37 minutes of the 40 minutes of regulation, but a late-game run forced OT, and the Golden Rams were unable to get the stop they needed in the extra session, never leading in the five minutes before falling by a 79-76 final. Emily McAteer scored a career-high 33 points and tied for 11th in team history in points in a single game in the process, while Johnson added 19 of her own, but it was not enough to hand the Bald Eagles their first league loss of the 2023-24 season. Johnson’s 19-point effort helped her surpass the 1,500-point milestone for her career, becoming just the third player in school history to do so and the first since Dallas Ely and Brittany Sicinski did so in 2015-16. Johnson enters play on Wednesday night just 119 points away from the scoring record currently held by Sicinski while also sitting just eight assists away from Colleen McNamara’s assist record. Shepherd Women’s Basketball Notes...Shepherd enters play in a similar situation to that of the Golden Rams, going 1-5 in its last five games amid a four-game losing streak after dropping its East opener to East Stroudsburg by an 84-76 final on Saturday afternoon. Peyton Grant, the Ram’s leading scorer on the year, averaging 9.8 points per game, led the team in scoring with 17 points, including five made three, but it was not enough to overcome the Warriors. For the year, Shepherd is averaging 60.1 points per game while allowing an average of 74.1 points per game, shooting just 37.2 % from the field and 32.9 % from beyond the arc while also being outrebounded by a 44.2-32.8 margin. Taking care of the basketball has also been somewhat problematic for Coach Kaufman’s group this season, averaging 18.6 turnovers per game, entering play with a -3.3 turnover margin on the season. Up next for the Golden Rams ... Today is the Golden Rams first home game of 2024 and the first of two straight in Hollinger as the Golden Rams will welcome ESU to University Avenue on Saturday afternoon for what will also be Alumni Day.

Opening Tip... The West Chester University men’s basketball team has corrected course quickly and impressively since the calendar turned to December, overcoming a 1-3 start to enter play 8-5 overall and 5-2 in league action on Wednesday night against Shepherd. Winners of seven of its last nine coming entering play on Wednesday, West Chester, who captured a share of its first Regular Season crown since 2006, is off to its best start in league action since the 2019-20 season when the team was 7-0 to open conference play. West Chester opened PSAC East play with a loss on Saturday at Lock Haven, falling by a 74-71 final against the Bald Eagles after a late-game surge by the hosts. West Chester will look to bounce back tonight against Shepherd, a team whom the Golden Rams have defeated in the last four meetings to take an 8-4 lead over in the all-time series. West Chester swept the season series from Shepherd a year ago, marking its first sweep of the Rams since they joined the league in 2019-20. Unbeaten against Shepherd in games played in Hollinger, West Chester won both its games over the Rams in dramatic fashion a year ago, winning on a Joshua Walker buzzer-beater at home before Elijah Allen played the hero on the road in the second meeting between the two rivals. What’s Happening on the Floor ...Before tonight’s game, West Chester will recognize junior captain Robert Smith for scoring his 1000th career point in the Golden Rams victory over No. 9 last Wednesday night. Smith is the first Golden Ram to score all 1,000 career points at WCU since Matt Penecale did so during the 2018-19 season. WCU Men’s Basketball Notes ... Despite a double-double by Jordan Kellier (15 pts/15 rebs) and a team-high 18 points from Smith, West Chester was unable to extend its winning streak to three in a row on Saturday afternoon, falling to Lock Haven by a 74-71 final. The game was close throughout, featuring 12 ties and 15 lead changes, and neither team led by more than 10 (WCU held the largest lead of the game at nine early in the second half), but Lock Haven scored the final four points of the afternoon to hand the Golden Rams their second PSAC loss of the season. Allen, the PSAC East Athlete of the Week for the second time this season after averaging 25.6 points per game over the last three games, leads the team in scoring, averaging 20.3 points per game on the year, while also ranking third on the squad in rebounding, averaging 4.6 per game. Jordan Kellier leads the team and PSAC in rebounding, averaging 10.0 rebounds per game, which ranks 16th best in Division II men’s basketball. The efforts of the Siena transfer have not gone unnoticed for West Chester this season, as the Golden Rams are 6-3 when outrebounding their opponents and 19th in DII in offensive rebounding, averaging 13.7 per game, which is third-best in the PSAC. Shepherd Men’s Basketball Notes.. Shepherd enters play following a 66-47 loss against PSAC East leader East Stroudsburg at home on Saturday afternoon. Shepherd trailed by five at the half, but ESU used a big second half to pull away for the victory over the Rams. Daniel McClain-Corley led the team in scoring, finishing with 11 points as the team shot just 32.7 % from the field and 10.5 % from three-point range in the setback. For the year, McClain-Corley is the leading scorer, averaging 13.8 points per game on a team that averages 62.3 points per game and shoots 41.6 % from the field and 31.9 % from beyond the arc. Shepherd usually keeps things close on the glass, averaging 31.8 rebounds per game, while its opponents average 32.3. Junior Jarod Robinson is the Rams top rebounder, averaging 5.1 rebounds per game, while Phillip Jordan ranks second on the team in most categories, including scoring (12.3/g), rebounding (4.6/g), and assists (3.8/g). Up Next for the Golden Rams ... Tonight is the first home game of the 2024 half of the season for West Chester and the first of two straight in Hollinger as the Golden Rams will welcome East Stroudsburg to University Ave on Saturday on what will also be Alumni Day for the Golden Rams.

Head Coach Damien Blair completed his 15th season at the helm of the Golden Rams in 2022-23. In his 14 seasons with the Purple & Gold, Blair boasts a 262-142 (.648) overall record with four NCAA Tournament appearances in the last seven years. Blair has orchestrated a 176-101 (.635) mark in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) contests throughout his tenure, and under his tutelage, the Golden Rams have landed inside the top-three of the PSAC East standings nine times, including a share of the regular-season crown in 2022-23 and six second-place nishes. West Chester has advanced to the PSAC Championship Game on three occasions. The West Chester University alum boasts a 11-12 record in the PSAC Tournament and a 1-4 record in the NCAA Tournament. It was Blair’s mission that winter to orchestrate a return to the PSAC seminals and with it a shot at a PSAC championship. Blair led West Chester to the PSAC postseason tournament in his rst season on the sideline in 2008-09, after inheriting a squad that had not reached the playoffs the previous two campaigns. One of the top guards in school history, Blair made a big splash in his rst season as head coach at his alma mater. The Golden Rams nished 18-10 overall and 9-5 in conference play, nishing third overall in the Eastern Division and leading the Rams to the quarternals of the PSAC postseason tournament. A loss to cross-town rival Cheyney ended Blair’s inaugural season prematurely. He made the leap into the college game from the high school ranks where he led nearby Downingtown High School to the Ches-Mont League boys’ basketball championship -- the rst title in school history -- in 2007 and a spot in the PIAA state playoffs for the fourth time during his tenure. Overall, Blair compiled a high school career coaching record of 173-78 (.689). Blair left Downingtown High as the school’s all-time winningest boy’s basketball coach. He was named the Daily Local News coach of the year as well as ChesMont League coach of the year his nal season. During his collegiate playing career, Blair set seven individual scoring records on the career, season and game levels. His 2,025 career points stands second all-time at West Chester University and ninth all-time in PSAC history. The ashy guard was a two-time PSAC East player of the year (1994, 1995) and four-time all-league selection, including three rst-team nods, during his illustrious playing career. Blair was inducted into the Messikomer Men’s Basketball Hall of Fame at West Chester University in 2001. Blair played semi-professional basketball with the Delaware Blue Bombers of the United States Basketball League for a brief stint, after his college career came to a close and was even invited to the Philadelphia 76ers tryout camp in 1996. Blair received his bachelor’s of science degree in Education from WCU in May 2006 and is a certied Health & Physical Education instructor in the state of Pennsylvania. He completed his master’s in Athletic Administration from WCU in May 2007.
