Dr. Christopher M. Fiorentino enters his eighth and final year as president of West Chester University. With 40 years of higher education and administration experience at West Chester University, Fiorentino announced his retirement prior to the beginning of the 2023-24 academic year. He will step down as university president in June 2024. Fiorentino, who holds three degrees in economics (baccalaureate, master’s and doctorate) from Temple University, joined WCU’s economics faculty in 1983. His role evolved from assistant professor to dean of the College of Business and Public Administration to vice president for External Operations to his current position of university president. Dr. Fiorentino has been active in numerous leadership roles on campus, helping to secure AACSB International accreditation for the School of Business; developing off-campus academic centers, including the Graduate Center in West Goshen Township; and working with faculty and supporters to create the Cottrell Entrepreneurial Leadership Center. Dr. Fiorentino also spearheaded the development of the Center for Community Solutions, which links business and civic leaders with appropriate University faculty and staff. His responsibilities in his last position included University operations at the State System’s Center City Philadelphia site. Dr. Fiorentino is married to WCU alumnae, Dr. Susan Fiorentino, ’86, a Professor in the Management Department at West Chester University where she is currently serving as Coordinator for the Master of Science in Human Resource Management program. Career Record: (81-70)

Opening Tip...Since recording an 82-27 victory over Shepherd earlier this month that served as the team’s largest win over a PSAC East foe since 1994, the West Chester University women’s basketball team has found its stride once again, winning four in a row to improve its record to 12-5 overall and 7-4 in league play. This winning streak has also seen West Chester halt a troubling trend of road losses, winning each of its last two away from home with victories over Kutztown (first road win over the Golden Bears since 2018) and Shippensburg on each of the last two Wednesday evenings. Today, West Chester will host Mansfield, looking to extend its winning streak over the Mounties to four in a row after sweeping the season series a year ago. West Chester split the series with Mansfield in 2021-22, which halted a 20-game winning streak in the series for WCU. In Hollinger last January, West Chester got an early lead and never looked back, rolling to a 75-43 victory over Mansfield. Leah Johnson became the fourth Golden Ram in school history to record a triple-double in this game, while Emily McAteer helped her make some additional history, recording a double-double of her own to become the first Golden Ram duo to record a triple-double and double-double in a PSAC East game. The Champs Are Here... The West Chester University cheerleading team has returned from Florida as UCA National Champions after posting a 98.8 in the final to win the Open All-Girl Game Day Competition at the UCA National Championships on January 12. WCU Women’s Basketball Notes ... After earning a victory over Kutztown in its lone game of the week a week ago, West Chester showed no signs of rust on Wednesday night at Shippensburg, leading throughout the night and leading by as many as 33 in the late stages of the fourth quarter in an 82-55 victory over the Raiders. West Chester shot a season-best 55.0 % from the field in the victory, which saw the team shoot north of 50.0 % from the floor in each of the first three quarters, shooting 61.5 % in the first, 56.3 % in the second and a scorching 64.7 % in the third. Emily McAteer continued her stellar run in PSAC East play, scoring a game-high 23 points on 9-of-11 shooting from the field and 3-for-3 from three-point territory while also tying for the team lead in rebounding with seven in the victory. Leah Johnson continued her march toward the scoring record on Wednesday night as well, scoring 16 points on 7-of-13 shooting as the third Golden Ram in double figures, which moved her just 70 points away from the record, while also logging a team-best eight assists in the victory. West Chester’s recent road success has greatly improved its home/away splits in recent weeks, reducing its point-per-game differential to 7.3 (76.9/g at home vs 69.6/g away). West Chester has been impressive at home in recent years, and this season has been no different as the team is unbeaten in Hollinger, winning nine of its ten games at home by 18 points or more. West Chester has not lost in front of its home crowd in over a year, with the last setback coming on January 11, 2023, vs Shippensburg. Mansfield Women’s Basketball Notes...Mansfield enters play following a 61-46 loss in its last game to East-leading Lock Haven as the Bald Eagles remained unbeaten and high atop the PSAC East standings. Mansfield battled throughout the evening on Wednesday night, trailing by four at the end of the first, five at the half, and four heading into the fourth quarter, but the Mounties were never able to get over the hump and pull the road upset to hand the Bald Eagles their first PSAC loss of the season. Jasmine Hilton led the team in scoring with 13 points, while also corralling seven rebounds as she enters play on Saturday third in the PSAC in rebounding, averaging 8.5 rebounds per game. As a team, Mansfield averages 65.5 points per game on 40.3 % shooting from the field and 33.2 % from beyond the arc, led by Hilton, who averages 16.0 points per game as one of two Mounties to average in double figures. Up next for the Golden Rams ... Today is the first of a tight back-to-back homestand for West Chester and the first of three of four games at home. West Chester returns to action on Monday night against Millersville, beginning at 5:30, before visiting Bloomsburg on Wednesday night in the final game of the first half of PSAC East play.

MANSFIELD (6-11, 4-8) Head Coach: John Szentesy Career Record: (27-98)

Opening Tip... The West Chester University men’s basketball team enters play on Saturday afternoon looking for its third win as many tries, hoping to improve to 12-6 overall and 9-3 in league action with a win over Mansfield. West Chester has completed an impressive turnaround since a 1-3 start to the year, winning 10 of its last 13 games, including a pair of wins the team has not recorded since the 2015-16 season, defeating a top-10 foe (No. 9 Cal on 1/3; 100-97) and defeating Shippensburg on the road on Wednesday night. West Chester will look to continue its winning ways today vs Mansfield as the Golden Rams hope to run their winning streak to two in a row over the Mounties. West Chester swept the season series a year ago, winning the first meeting by a 70-68 final in Hollinger before earning a 78-68 victory on the road in the series finale. With these two wins, West Chester holds a 58-34 lead in the all-time series, playing to a record of 24-6 since the 2007-08 season. In the second meeting between the two teams a year ago, Joshua Walker scored a career-high 23 points to go along with 11 rebounds to lead the Purple and Gold to the road victory. West Chester led by one at the half and used a 14-4 run midway through the second half to erase a 47-45 deficit and pull away for the 10-point victory. The Champs Are Here... The West Chester University cheerleading team has returned from Florida as UCA National Champions after posting a 98.8 in the final to win the Open All-Girl Game Day Competition at the UCA National Championships on January 12. West Chester will honor its Championship team at halftime of today’s game. WCU Men’s Basketball Notes ... West Chester accomplished yet another thing that the team had not done since 2015-16 on Wednesday night, posting a road victory over Shippensburg by an 88-73 final. West Chester trailed in the early going on Wednesday but erased the deficit as quickly as it came, holding a 45-34 lead at the half and stretching the lead to as many as 22 as the second half continued. The Raiders attempted to mount a comeback late but never got closer than 12 points as the Golden Rams left Heiges Field House victorious. Robert Smith nearly had a career-night, finishing with 27 points, one shy of his career-high, which he set on opening weekend of his freshman season against Lincoln after scoring 19 in the first half. Jordan Kellier and Joshua Walker each recorded double-doubles, finishing with 17 points/11 rebounds and 14 points/10 rebounds, respectively, as three of four players in double figures. Elijah Allen was the fourth and final Golden Ram to score in double figures on Wednesday night, chipping in 16 points on 6-of-16 shooting to help guide the team to victory. Jordan Kellier has been a force to be reckoned with in the post this season, entering play 17th in DII and first in the PSAC in rebounding, averaging 9.7 rebounds per game, while also averaging 12.2 points per game to rank fourth on the team in scoring. Mansfield Men’s Basketball Notes... Mansfield enters play amid a two-game losing streak after becoming Lock Haven’s latest victim on Wednesday night by an 89-78 final in Thomas Field House. The Mounties trailed by just five at the half and could not complete a comeback in the second half as the host Bald Eagles used their early lead to hold on for the 11-point victory. Michael Dickson led the team in scoring with 19 points on 8-of-17 shooting, while Saraj Ali nearly finished with a double-double, scoring 16 points and grabbing a team-best nine rebounds. For the year, Ali leads the team in scoring and rebounding, averaging 14.4 points and 7.9 rebounds per game, while his sibling, Idris Ali, is second on the team in scoring, averaging 11.8 points per game, while also leading the team in assists, averaging 2.5 per game. As a team, Mansfield enters play averaging 74.3 points per game, shooting 45.3 % from the field and 32.7 % from three-point territory, while also averaging just under 36 (35.9) rebounds per game.

Head Coach Damien Blair completed his 15th season at the helm of the Golden Rams in 2022-23. In his 14 seasons with the Purple & Gold, Blair boasts a 262-142 (.648) overall record with four NCAA Tournament appearances in the last seven years. Blair has orchestrated a 176-101 (.635) mark in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) contests throughout his tenure, and under his tutelage, the Golden Rams have landed inside the top-three of the PSAC East standings nine times, including a share of the regular-season crown in 2022-23 and six second-place nishes. West Chester has advanced to the PSAC Championship Game on three occasions. The West Chester University alum boasts a 11-12 record in the PSAC Tournament and a 1-4 record in the NCAA Tournament. It was Blair’s mission that winter to orchestrate a return to the PSAC seminals and with it a shot at a PSAC championship. Blair led West Chester to the PSAC postseason tournament in his rst season on the sideline in 2008-09, after inheriting a squad that had not reached the playoffs the previous two campaigns. One of the top guards in school history, Blair made a big splash in his rst season as head coach at his alma mater. The Golden Rams nished 18-10 overall and 9-5 in conference play, nishing third overall in the Eastern Division and leading the Rams to the quarternals of the PSAC postseason tournament. A loss to cross-town rival Cheyney ended Blair’s inaugural season prematurely. He made the leap into the college game from the high school ranks where he led nearby Downingtown High School to the Ches-Mont League boys’ basketball championship -- the rst title in school history -- in 2007 and a spot in the PIAA state playoffs for the fourth time during his tenure. Overall, Blair compiled a high school career coaching record of 173-78 (.689). Blair left Downingtown High as the school’s all-time winningest boy’s basketball coach. He was named the Daily Local News coach of the year as well as ChesMont League coach of the year his nal season. During his collegiate playing career, Blair set seven individual scoring records on the career, season and game levels. His 2,025 career points stands second all-time at West Chester University and ninth all-time in PSAC history. The ashy guard was a two-time PSAC East player of the year (1994, 1995) and four-time all-league selection, including three rst-team nods, during his illustrious playing career.
