Dr. Christopher M. Fiorentino enters his eighth and final year as president of West Chester University. With 40 years of higher education and administration experience at West Chester University, Fiorentino announced his retirement prior to the beginning of the 2023-24 academic year. He will step down as university president in June 2024. Fiorentino, who holds three degrees in economics (baccalaureate, master’s and doctorate) from Temple University, joined WCU’s economics faculty in 1983. His role evolved from assistant professor to dean of the College of Business and Public Administration to vice president for External Operations to his current position of university president. Dr. Fiorentino has been active in numerous leadership roles on campus, helping to secure AACSB International accreditation for the School of Business; developing off-campus academic centers, including the Graduate Center in West Goshen Township; and working with faculty and supporters to create the Cottrell Entrepreneurial Leadership Center. Dr. Fiorentino also spearheaded the development of the Center for Community Solutions, which links business and civic leaders with appropriate University faculty and staff. His responsibilities in his last position included University operations at the State System’s Center City Philadelphia site. Dr. Fiorentino is married to WCU alumnae, Dr. Susan Fiorentino, ’86, a Professor in the Management Department at West Chester University where she is currently serving as Coordinator for the Master of Science in Human Resource Management program. A 31-year veteran in college athletics, Beattie recently spearheaded the development of the Michael Horrocks Emerging Leaders Institute at WCU, which provides leadership training and development to a select group of outstanding student athletes who, as recognized future leaders, will be taking on the mantle of leadership within their team sometime in the future. He has also served on a number of strategic planning committee’s both within the athletic department and in conjunction with the university. In his seven years as the university’s athletics director, Beattie created a Sports Performance aspect to the athletic department implementing additional resources from which WCU student-athletes could benefit. Opening Tip...As the calendar turns to February and the second trip through PSAC East play begins, the playoff picture has become steadily clearer as West Chester and Lock Haven emerge as two favorites for the PSAC East regular season crown. West Chester stumbled only once in PSAC East play, falling to the Bald Eagles in the East opener on January 6, and since then has won each of its next seven, winning every game by at least 18 points, including a historic 82-27 win over Shepherd on January 10 that went as the largest PSAC East victory for WCU since 1994. Today, West Chester will look to match its longest home-winning streak in program history as the Golden Rams look to win No. 20 in a row at home, which would also hand Lock Haven its first PSAC loss of the season. Despite an OT loss at Lock Haven earlier this season, West Chester holds a 36-15 lead in the all-time series against Lock Haven, winning three of five and nine of the last 10 in Hollinger. West Chester has not fallen to Lock Haven in Hollinger since February of the 2019-20 season when the Bald Eagles escaped with a 71-60 victory over the Golden Rams. WCU Women’s Basketball Notes ...West Chester ran its winning streak to seven in a row on Wednesday night, posting a 67-45 victory on the road against Bloomsburg. After slow starts against Mansfield and Millersville, West Chester had no such issue on Wednesday night, racing out to an 18-8 lead after the first quarter, which turned into a 40-22 lead at the half. Emily McAteer matched Bloomsburg in scoring in the first half, finishing with 22 points en route to a dominant 28-point performance in the victory. Leah Johnson continued her march toward history on Wednesday night, scoring 15 points to move within five points of second all-time in scoring and 22 points away from the scoring record (1,624) currently held by Brittany Sicinski (2012-16). West Chester shot tremendously well for much of the game on Wednesday night but dropped off slightly in the fourth quarter, ending the game with a 42.6 % field goal percentage, while also connecting on 17-of-20 at the line. West Chester enters play on Saturday afternoon, tied for the seventh longest home winning streak in DII basketball at 19 games, which dates back to January 2023, as the team’s last home loss came on January 11, 2023, against Shippensburg. West Chester’s longest home winning streak in program history is 20 games, which stretched from the 1995-96 season throughout the 1996-97 campaign. Emily McAteer enters play averaging 23.1 points per game in East play, which has moved her into fourth in the league in scoring on the year, averaging 17.4 points per game. Lock Haven Women’s Basketball Notes...Lock Haven enters play on Saturday tied with Gannon for the longest winning streak in DII women’s basketball at 19 games in a row, going unbeaten since a loss in the season opener against Fairmont State at Seton Hill. Lock Haven improved to 19-1 on the year and 14-0 in league action on Wednesday night with a 66-54 victory on the road at Millersville. The Bald Eagles took a 27-5 (22-point lead) after the first quarter and were outscored the rest of the way, including 21-8 in the third quarter, but held on for the 12-point victory. Jenadia Jordan scored 19 points, including a team-best two makes from three-point range, while Jackie Festko led the team in rebounding with 10 in the victory. The Bald Eagles shot 51.0 % (25-of-49) from the field and an even 50.0 % (6-of-12) from three-point range while also shooting 71.4 % (10-of-14) from the line in the victory. Lock Haven also ended the game with a 38-27 lead in rebounding. Averaging 66.9 points per game and shooting 40.2 % from the field on the year, Lock Haven is led offensively by Jordan, who leads the team in scoring (16.2/g) and assists (2.5/g) while also leading the team in steals (2.0/g). Freshman center Madeline Evans has been a pleasant surprise for Lock Haven this year, leading the team in rebounding, averaging 7.4 rebounds per game, which is 10th in the PSAC entering the final month of the regular season. Up next for the Golden Rams ... Tonight is the Golden Ram’s lone Saturday game for February and one of just two remaining on the calendar. The Golden Ram’s second and final Saturday home game will be on the last day of the regular season against Bloomsburg, beginning at 1 p.m. After today, West Chester heads to Shepherd next Wednesday to face the Rams beginning at 5:30 p.m.

Opening Tip... With the first time through PSAC East play now complete and three PSAC Tournament spots secured, the West Chester University men’s basketball team will look to start its second time through East play with a win and avoid its first sweep from Lock Haven since the 2016-17 season. The Golden Rams concluded the first run-through of East play with an 81-68 victory over Bloomsburg a night ago, which saw the team erase a halftime and early second-half deficit to improve to 10-4 in league play entering the regular season’s final month. West Chester holds a 34-10 lead in the all-time series against Lock Haven and has won eight of the last 10 meetings against the Bald Eagles, including a loss in Thomas Field House by a 74-71 final on January 6 to open PSAC East play. West Chester has lost at home to Lock Haven only once since the 2007-08 season, falling to its visitors in January of the 2016-17 season. This does not mean things have always been elementary for West Chester at home against LHU. A season ago, West Chester earned a reputation as a cardiac-type team, winning six games in the final three seconds of regulation or OT, including a win against Lock Haven, which came after a corner three by Kyle McGee with just under three seconds to play. Playoff Picture... An argument could be made that looking at the playoff picture with a month to go in the regular season is a bit early; however, with three PSAC East teams (East Stroudsburg, Millersville, and Lock Haven) already guaranteed spots in the PSAC Tournament, there is undoubtedly a counter-argument to be made. The Golden Rams have fared well in PSAC East play overall, going 5-3 the first time through the East, with their only losses coming to ESU, Millersville, and LHU. With this, West Chester appears comfortably in fourth with the chance to climb in this final month with big games remaining on the calendar, including today. WCU Men’s Basketball Notes ... On Wednesday night, West Chester traveled to Bloomsburg, looking to avoid its first losing streak since the first month of the season when the team dropped three in a row against Virginia State, Fairmont State, and Wilmington while not at full strength. West Chester found itself locked in a good one on Wednesday night, battling to an 81-68 victory over the Huskies in a game that featured seven ties and six lead changes. West Chester trailed at the half and remained behind early in the second half but erased the deficit by the midway point of the half and after a late-game run, including a 9-0, which stretched under a minute-and-a-half to play in regulation, led by as many as 15 in the 13-point victory. Elijah Allen led the team in scoring with 22 points for his seventh 20+-point effort of the season. Joshua Walker, who is third on the team in scoring, averaging 14.2 points per game, added 21 of his own after a career-high 26 vs Millersville on Monday night. Jordan Kellier, who ranks eighth in DII in rebounding, increased his league-leading rebounding average to 10.3 per game after picking up his fourth straight and ninth overall double-double with 11 points and 17 rebounds, finishing one rebound shy of his career-high 18, which he logged opposite Wilmington earlier this year. Today’s game begins the Golden Rams’ February schedule, which has been a favorable month for the team in recent years as the Golden Rams are 14-4 in the last month of the season since February 1, 2022, posting a .777 (14-4) winning percentage in such games after going 7-1 a year ago. Lock Haven Men’s Basketball Notes... Riding a nine-game winning streak, including seven straight wins to open PSAC East play, Lock Haven visited Millersville on Wednesday night and, despite a furious second-half comeback, fell to the Marauders by a 91-87 final. Millersville jumped out to a 10-point lead in the first half, and Lock Haven outscored its hosts by six in the second half but could not complete the comeback. Justice Shoats, who leads the team in scoring (19.8/g), assists (4.5/g), and steals (2.2/g), led the team in both a night ago, finishing with the team lead in all three categories, finishing with 25 points and four steals, and three assists in the setback. Up Next for the Golden Rams ... Tonight is the Golden Ram’s lone Saturday game for the month of February and one of just two remaining on the calendar. The Golden Ram’s second and final Saturday home game will be on the last day of the regular season against Bloomsburg, beginning at 3 p.m. After today, West Chester heads to Shepherd next Wednesday to face the Rams beginning at 7:30 p.m.

Head Coach Damien Blair completed his 15th season at the helm of the Golden Rams in 2022-23. In his 14 seasons with the Purple & Gold, Blair boasts a 262-142 (.648) overall record with four NCAA Tournament appearances in the last seven years. Blair has orchestrated a 176-101 (.635) mark in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) contests throughout his tenure, and under his tutelage, the Golden Rams have landed inside the top-three of the PSAC East standings nine times, including a share of the regular-season crown in 2022-23 and six second-place nishes. West Chester has advanced to the PSAC Championship Game on three occasions. The West Chester University alum boasts a 11-12 record in the PSAC Tournament and a 1-4 record in the NCAA Tournament. It was Blair’s mission that winter to orchestrate a return to the PSAC seminals and with it a shot at a PSAC championship. Blair led West Chester to the PSAC postseason tournament in his rst season on the sideline in 2008-09, after inheriting a squad that had not reached the playoffs the previous two campaigns. One of the top guards in school history, Blair made a big splash in his rst season as head coach at his alma mater. The Golden Rams nished 18-10 overall and 9-5 in conference play, nishing third overall in the Eastern Division and leading the Rams to the quarternals of the PSAC postseason tournament. A loss to cross-town rival Cheyney ended Blair’s inaugural season prematurely. He made the leap into the college game from the high school ranks where he led nearby Downingtown High School to the Ches-Mont League boys’ basketball championship -- the rst title in school history -- in 2007 and a spot in the PIAA state playoffs for the fourth time during his tenure. Overall, Blair compiled a high school career coaching record of 173-78 (.689). Blair left Downingtown High as the school’s all-time winningest boy’s basketball coach. He was named the Daily Local News coach of the year as well as ChesMont League coach of the year his nal season. During his collegiate playing career, Blair set seven individual scoring records on the career, season and game levels. His 2,025 career points stands second all-time at West Chester University and ninth all-time in PSAC history. The ashy guard was a two-time PSAC East player of the year (1994, 1995) and four-time all-league selection, including three rst-team nods, during his illustrious playing career. Blair was inducted into the Messikomer Men’s Basketball Hall of Fame at West Chester University in 2001. Blair played semi-professional basketball with the Delaware Blue Bombers of the United States Basketball League for a brief stint, after his college career came to a close and was even invited to the Philadelphia 76ers tryout camp in 1996. Blair received his bachelor’s of science degree in Education from WCU in May 2006 and is a certied Health & Physical Education instructor in the state of Pennsylvania. He completed his master’s in Athletic Administration from WCU in May 2007.
