With 40 years of higher education and administration experience at West Chester University, Fiorentino announced his retirement prior to the beginning of the 2023-24 academic year. He will step down as university president in June 2024. Fiorentino, who holds three degrees in economics (baccalaureate, master’s and doctorate) from Temple University, joined WCU’s economics faculty in 1983. His role evolved from assistant professor to dean of the College of Business and Public Administration to vice president for External Operations to his current position of university president. Dr. Fiorentino has been active in numerous leadership roles on campus, helping to secure AACSB International accreditation for the School of Business; developing off-campus academic centers, including the Graduate Center in West Goshen Township; and working with faculty and supporters to create the Cottrell Entrepreneurial Leadership Center. Dr. Fiorentino also spearheaded the development of the Center for Community Solutions, which links business and civic leaders with appropriate University faculty and staff. His responsibilities in his last position included University operations at the State System’s Center City Philadelphia site. Head Coach: Janet Malouf

Career Record: (442-368)

Opening Tip...Currently riding the longest winning streak in the PSAC and the 10th longest in Division II women’s basketball at 10 in a row, the West Chester University women’s basketball team returns to action against Kutztown in its first home game since Saturday, February 3, against Lock Haven. West Chester has not lost since a January 6 setback at Lock Haven, and the Golden Rams exacted revenge for this loss with a 58-49 victory over the Bald Eagles earlier this month. Holding a 48-37 lead in the all-time series against Kutztown after defeating the Golden Bears on the road earlier this season for the first time since the 2017-18 season, West Chester looks for its first sweep of Kutztown since 2017-18, while also looking for its 21st consecutive win at home. West Chester has not lost in front of its home crowd since early January 2023, rattling off a program-record-tying 20 in a row at home, which ranks eighth best in Division II women’s basketball. What’s Happening on the Floor ...Before Wednesday night’s game, West Chester will honor graduate student guard Leah Johnson for breaking the WCU career scoring record last week at Shepherd, eclipsing the record of 1,624 points previously held by Brittany Sicinski. Entering play tonight, Johnson has 1,657 points to her name after scoring a season-high 28 at Shepherd and adding 14 more against ESU on Saturday. WCU Women’s Basketball Notes ...West Chester extended its winning streak impressively a week ago, posting a 77-66 victory over Shepherd in a game in which the Golden Rams never trailed before rolling to a 61-42 win over ESU after leading by as many as 29 midway through the fourth quarter on Saturday afternoon. On Saturday, ESU got out to an early lead, scoring the first four points of the game, but West Chester ensured its deficit would be short-lived, answering quickly and heading into the second with an 18-7 lead, outscoring the Warriors 18-3 the remainder of the quarter. Led by 21 points from its leading scorer Emily McAteer and 14 more from career-scoring leader Leah Johnson, West Chester never looked back from this point, leading by as many as 29 with 5:48 to play in the fourth on the way to a comfortable 61-42 victory. West Chester shot 44.6 % (25-of-56) from the field and connected on 5-of-12 (41.7 %) from beyond the arc in the victory while also ending the game with a 36-27 lead in rebounding and a corresponding 14-12 lead in second-chance points. For the year, West Chester remains among the league leaders in both scoring and points allowed, ranking second in the PSAC in scoring, averaging 73.0 points per game, while also ranking second in points allowed, limiting teams to just 54.7 per game, which is 14th best in Division II. Kutztown Women’s Basketball Notes...Always a formidable opponent, Kutztown enters play with the third-best record in the PSAC East at 12-11 on the year overall and 10-7 in East play despite dropping two in a row. Most recently, Kutztown traveled to and fell to Shippensburg on Saturday afternoon, falling victim to a big second-half comeback, which saw the Raiders outscore the Golden Bears 46-28 to erase a nine-point halftime deficit and earn the 66-57 victory. Sydney Pierson led Kutztown in scoring in the setback, finishing with 15 points, while Olivia Smelas came away with 13 rebounds and five helpers. As a team, Kutztown shot just 34.6 % from the field and 24.0 % (6-of-25) from deep in the loss, while Shippensburg shot just slightly better, shooting 40.4 % (21-of-52) from the field and 35.3 % (6-of-17) from three-point range. Naia Pulliam leads Kutztown in scoring so far this season, averaging 14.0 points per game to lead a Kutztown offense that averages 61.0 points per game as a unit. Smelas leads the team in rebounding (7.1/g) and steals (1.7/g), while Zara Zerman leads the group in assists, averaging 2.4 helpers per game. Up next for the Golden Rams ... Tonight is the first of a two-game homestand for West Chester as the Golden Rams welcome Shippensburg to Hollinger next Wednesday night at 5:30. West Chester will conclude February with its final road trip of the season, visiting Mansfield and Millersville on the 24th and 28th before hosting Bloomsburg on Senior Day on Saturday, March 2.

KUTZTOWN (3-20, 2-15) Head Coach: Bernie Driscoll Career Record: (353-295)

Opening Tip... With a spot in the PSAC Tournament secured for the 12th year in a row and just five regular season games remaining on the calendar, the 2023-24 basketball season is quickly nearing its climax. Tonight, West Chester begins its final two-game homestand of the 2023-24 season as Kutztown makes the short drive to Hollinger Field House for a 7:30 tip against the rival Golden Rams. West Chester enters play winners of each of the last four in the series against Kutztown, including an 87-76 victory on the road earlier this season. This success has helped West Chester extend its lead in the all-time series, entering play on Wednesday evening with an 80-41 lead all-time against the Golden Bears. West Chester has not lost to Kutztown in Hollinger since January of the 2019-20 season, falling by a 92-78 final in what was the 12th-ranked Golden Rams third setback in four games after a red-hot start to the campaign. What’s Happening on the Floor... At halftime of tonight’s game, West Chester will pause to recognize longtime track and field assistant coach Pat Mosley for not only her many years of service to the Golden Rams but also in helping Ralph Casper capture a National Championship in the shot put at the 2023 DII Outdoor Track and Field Championships. In recognition of this, Mosley was named USTFCCCA Men’s Division II Men’s Track and Field Atlantic Region Assistant Coach of the Year. WCU Men’s Basketball Notes ... Normally a tough team to beat in February, West Chester enters play on Wednesday night in need of a win to get back to .500 for the month and .500 in the last six as the Golden Rams are currently in the midst of a 2-3 run of their last five following a 103-74 loss at No. 11/7 East Stroudsburg on Saturday afternoon. West Chester led early on Saturday, holding a six-point lead with 12 minutes to play in the first half and hanging around throughout much of the first 30 minutes of regulation, but a pair of late-half runs proved harmful as East Stroudsburg erased the Golden Ram lead and eventually rolled to the 29-point victory. Joshua Walker had a double-double in the setback, finishing with 19 points and 11 rebounds, while Elijah Allen and Jordan Kellier chipped in 17 and 14 points each. West Chester shot just 38.4 % from the field in the loss, including a 2-of-21 (9.5 %) effort from beyond the arc as the Golden Rams struggled from distance throughout the afternoon. West Chester is currently comfortably in fourth in the PSAC standings, trailing East Stroudsburg, Lock Haven, and Millersville for the top three spots, playing to a mark of 0-5 vs the top three after being swept by ESU and LHU earlier this month. West Chester did complete an important sweep of Shepherd in overtime on Wednesday night, which gives the Golden Rams a solid lead over the fifth-place Rams, making it appear that West Chester is well-positioned to host a First-Round PSAC Tournament game when that begins on Monday, March 4. Kutztown Men’s Basketball Notes... West Chester welcomes a Kutztown team to Hollinger Field House that has played to a record of 3-20 on the season following a pair of losses last week, including a setback at Shippensburg on Saturday afternoon. Jaiden McGhee has been a bright spot for Kutztown this season, averaging a team-leading 12.1 points and 6.0 rebounds per game, while Brendan Boyle is first on the team in assists, averaging 2.7 per game. Freshman guard Brent Ricketts Jr. led the way for Kutztown on Saturday afternoon, finishing with a team-high 15 points as the lone Kutztown player in double figures. The Golden Bears shot just 31.3 % from the field and 22.2 % from beyond the arc while also shooting below 60 % (57.1 %) from the stripe. Hollinger Field House is an all too familiar place for at least one member of the Golden Bears as head coach Bernie Driscoll, who is in his 23rd season at the helm of Kutztown, served as the top assistant coach for the Golden Rams from 1987-2000. During his final three seasons at West Chester, Driscoll helped the Golden Rams win a pair of PSAC East titles and make two NCAA Tournament appearances. Up Next for the Golden Rams ... Tonight is the first of a two-game homestand for West Chester as the Golden Rams welcome Shippensburg to Hollinger next Wednesday night at 7:30. West Chester will conclude February with its final road trip of the season, visiting Mansfield and Millersville on the 24th and 28th before hosting Bloomsburg on Senior Day on Saturday, March 2.

Head Coach Damien Blair completed his 15th season at the helm of the Golden Rams in 2022-23. In his 14 seasons with the Purple & Gold, Blair boasts a 262-142 (.648) overall record with four NCAA Tournament appearances in the last seven years. Blair has orchestrated a 176-101 (.635) mark in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) contests throughout his tenure, and under his tutelage, the Golden Rams have landed inside the top-three of the PSAC East standings nine times, including a share of the regular-season crown in 2022-23 and six second-place nishes. West Chester has advanced to the PSAC Championship Game on three occasions. The West Chester University alum boasts a 11-12 record in the PSAC Tournament and a 1-4 record in the NCAA Tournament. It was Blair’s mission that winter to orchestrate a return to the PSAC seminals and with it a shot at a PSAC championship. Blair led West Chester to the PSAC postseason tournament in his rst season on the sideline in 2008-09, after inheriting a squad that had not reached the playoffs the previous two campaigns. One of the top guards in school history, Blair made a big splash in his rst season as head coach at his alma mater. The Golden Rams nished 18-10 overall and 9-5 in conference play, nishing third overall in the Eastern Division and leading the Rams to the quarternals of the PSAC postseason tournament. A loss to cross-town rival Cheyney ended Blair’s inaugural season prematurely. He made the leap into the college game from the high school ranks where he led nearby Downingtown High School to the Ches-Mont League boys’ basketball championship -- the rst title in school history -- in 2007 and a spot in the PIAA state playoffs for the fourth time during his tenure. Overall, Blair compiled a high school career coaching record of 173-78 (.689). Blair left Downingtown High as the school’s all-time winningest boy’s basketball coach. He was named the Daily Local News coach of the year as well as ChesMont League coach of the year his nal season. During his collegiate playing career, Blair set seven individual scoring records on the career, season and game levels.
