(4-8, 2-5)

Head Coach: Stephanie Del Preore

Career Record: (118-182)

Opening Tip...After dropping each of its first two games of the 2024 half of the schedule, West Chester got back in the win column on Wednesday night with an 82-27 drubbing of PSAC East foe Shepherd. The Golden Rams never trailed in this game and led by as many as 56 en route to the team’s largest victory under head coach Kiera Wooden, the largest victory since November of the 2001 season and the largest win over a conference foe since February of the 1993-94 season. The victory improved West Chester to a perfect 9-0 at home while also serving as the eighth home victory by 15 points or more. Today, West Chester will face East Stroudsburg, looking to extend its winning streak against the Warriors to five. A year ago, West Chester swept the season series for the second consecutive year, including a convincing 72-54 victory in Hollinger on February 8 in the second game of the season series. On February 8, 2023, West Chester captured its 10th win in as many tries with a wire-to-wire victory over the visiting Warriors. West Chester led by six after the first quarter and by 12 at the half, never finding itself in much trouble in the Eastern Division triumph. Michelle Kozicki led the team in scoring with 17 points and 13 rebounds, while Emily McAteer scored 17 points of her own to go along with eight rebounds. Anna McTamney and Leah Johnson added 11 and 10 points, respectively, as West Chester saw four members of its starting five finish in double figures. What’s Happening on the Floor... With two assists, graduate student guard Leah Johnson will tie the career-assist record currently held by Colleen McNamara (509). Should the grad student accomplish this in the first half of action, McNamara and WCU head coach Kiera Wooden will present Johnson with a commemorative basketball before the halftime break. Following today’s game and just before the men’s basketball game vs. ESU, West Chester will also formally unveil its plan for a redesign and renaming of the Hollinger Court in honor of legendary head coaches Deirdre Kane and Dick DeLaney, who each led their respective programs for 27 years and combined for 847 wins. WCU Women’s Basketball Notes ... Looking to halt a two-game losing streak and avoid its first three-game streak since 2021, the West Chester University women’s basketball team accomplished this goal and then some on Wednesday night, rolling to an 82-27 victory over Shepherd in its first home game of 2024. West Chester led 7-6 at the first media timeout but got on a 42-0 run following this break, which lasted until the early stages of the third quarter, to take a commanding lead, which the Golden Rams would never think of relinquishing. Emily McAteer followed up her career-high 33-point effort on Saturday with a 24-point performance on Wednesday night, while McTamney and Johnson finished with 14 and 11 each. Needing eight assists to tie and nine to pass McNamara for the career assist record entering play on Wednesday night, Johnson flirted with history throughout the evening, finishing with six assists and seven rebounds as she also continues to chase assistant coach Allison Hostetter’s guard rebounding record. McTamney, the 2022-23 PSAC East Defensive Player of the Year, lived up to this recognition and then some on Wednesday night, coming away with a career-high five steals and a block in the 55-point triumph. East Stroudsburg Women’s Basketball Notes...East Stroudsburg also enters play following a victory over Shepherd, defeating the Rams 84-76 in the PSAC East opener last Saturday afternoon in Shepherdstown. Leading by eight after the first quarter and four at the half, ESU got some much-needed breathing room in the third quarter, stretching its lead back to double digits heading into the fourth. Chestnut Hill transfer Emily Chimel led the team in scoring, finishing with 16 points and nine rebounds, while Izzy Vogel, who is the team’s leading scorer on the year, averaging 8.7 points per game, connected on a pair of threes, while also coming away with three steals and two blocks. As a team, ESU enters play with a mark of 4-8 on the year, averaging 51.5 points per game on 35.8 % shooting from the field. Up next for the Golden Rams ... West Chester will play only once next week, visiting Kutztown next Wednesday night at 5:30 before traveling to Shippensburg on January 24. The Golden Rams will not return home until a January 27 battle against Mansfield beginning at 1 p.m.

Opening Tip... The West Chester University men’s basketball team has corrected course quickly and impressively since the calendar turned to December, overcoming a 1-3 start to enter play 9-5 overall and 6-2 in league action on Saturday afternoon against ESU. Winners of eight of its last 10 entering play on Saturday, West Chester, who captured a share of its first Regular Season crown since 2006, is off to its best start in league action since the 2019-20 season when the team was 7-0 to open conference play. West Chester bounced back from its PSAC East opening loss at Lock Haven with an 82-72 win over Shepherd on Wednesday night. West Chester will look to continue its winning ways today vs East Stroudsburg as the Golden Rams look to run their regular-season winning streak against the Warriors to three in a row after sweeping the regular-season series for the first time since 2008-09 a year ago. West Chester does enter off a loss in its most recent matchup against ESU, falling to the Warriors by an 85-72 final in the PSAC Tournament Quarterfinals to conclude the 2022-23 season. What’s Happening on the Floor ...Before today’s game, West Chester will recognize junior captain Elijah Allen for scoring his 1000th career point in the win over Shepherd on Wednesday night. West Chester will also recognize legendary head men’s and women’s basketball coaches Deirdre Kane and Dick DeLaney with a ceremony that will formally unveil plans for a redesign and renaming of the court in Hollinger Field House. When work is completed ahead of the next basketball season, the court will bear the name Kane-DeLaney court in recognition of this legendary duo’s contributions to Golden Rams basketball throughout their careers. The two coaches led the Golden Rams for 27 years each and combined for 847 wins in their tenures. WCU Men’s Basketball Notes ... On Wednesday night, West Chester improved to 2-1 in 2024 and 6-2 in league action with an 82-72 victory over Shepherd. West Chester trailed only briefly and led by as many as 20 midway through the second half, although this does not adequately tell the game’s story as Shepherd closed the WCU lead to as few as four late in the second half. Robert Smith, who finished with 12 points on 3-of-8 shooting from the field, hit a critical three with just over a minute to play, and Anthony Purnell Jr. picked up his first career double-double with 12 points and a career-high 10 rebounds to help hold off the visiting Rams. Jordan Kellier finished with 16 points of his to go along with 14 from Elijah Allen as he eclipsed the 1,000-point plateau and 13 more from Joshua Walker as the entire starting five scored in double figures for the first time since a 72-57 victory over Kutztown on 1/7/23. Allen and Smith remain the Golden Rams leading scorers on the year, averaging 19.9 and 15.5 points per game, respectively. Kellier nearly averages a double-double, averaging 11.8 points and 9.9 rebounds per game, which allows the grad transfer forward to lead the PSAC in rebounding entering play on Saturday. #16/13 East Stroudsburg Men’s Basketball Notes... East Stroudsburg enters play following an impressive win of its own, a 120-92 victory over Goldey-Beacom, setting a new program record for points in a non-league game in the Warriors DII history. ESU surged out to a 65-45 halftime lead and never looked back in the second half, outscoring the visiting Lightning 55-47 in the second half to earn the victory. Lakeem McAliley and Jaelen McGlone led the team in scoring with 17 and 16 points each as two of five Warriors in double figures. Averaging 87.8 points per game, ESU boasts the second-best offense in the PSAC and the highest-scoring offense in the PSAC East, shooting 45.9 % from the field and 32.1 % from three-point range as one of the most dangerous offensive units in the league once again. Up Next for the Golden Rams ... Today is the second and final game of the Golden Ram’s two-game homestand as the team heads to Kutztown next Wednesday night and Shippensburg on the 24th before hosting Mansfield on January 27 at 3 p.m. in its next home game. .

It was Blair’s mission that winter to orchestrate a return to the PSAC seminals and with it a shot at a PSAC championship. Blair led West Chester to the PSAC postseason tournament in his rst season on the sideline in 2008-09, after inheriting a squad that had not reached the playoffs the previous two campaigns. One of the top guards in school history, Blair made a big splash in his rst season as head coach at his alma mater. The Golden Rams nished 18-10 overall and 9-5 in conference play, nishing third overall in the Eastern Division and leading the Rams to the quarternals of the PSAC postseason tournament. A loss to cross-town rival Cheyney ended Blair’s inaugural season prematurely. He made the leap into the college game from the high school ranks where he led nearby Downingtown High School to the Ches-Mont League boys’ basketball championship -- the rst title in school history -- in 2007 and a spot in the PIAA state playoffs for the fourth time during his tenure. Overall, Blair compiled a high school career coaching record of 173-78 (.689). Blair left Downingtown High as the school’s all-time winningest boy’s basketball coach. He was named the Daily Local News coach of the year as well as ChesMont League coach of the year his nal season. His 2,025 career points stands second all-time at West Chester University and ninth all-time in PSAC history. The ashy guard was a two-time PSAC East player of the year (1994, 1995) and four-time all-league selection, including three rst-team nods, during his illustrious playing career. Blair was inducted into the Messikomer Men’s Basketball Hall of Fame at West Chester University in 2001. Blair played semi-professional basketball with the Delaware Blue Bombers of the United States Basketball League for a brief stint, after his college career came to a close and was even invited to the Philadelphia 76ers tryout camp in 1996. Blair received his bachelor’s of science degree in Education from WCU in May 2006 and is a certied Health & Physical Education instructor in the state of Pennsylvania. He completed his master’s in Athletic Administration from WCU in May 2007.
