Ty’lei Singleton, composer

Ty’lei Singleton is a music composition student at Wesst Chester University with a violin focus He joined the West Chester composition club, Now Music Society, in 2022 and has acted as its treasurer, vice president, and president. Ty’lei has studied with Robert Maggio, Mark Rimple, Nadine Silverman, Ari Sussman, and Adam B. Silverman. He has written for the Philadelphia based ensemble, Network for New Music, The Criterions, the WCU Wind Symphony, the Dali Quartet, and Kitchen Sink. His works include large ensemble writing and cross-cultural fusions featuring Latin rhythms, jazz harmony, and avant garde styles. In the future, he plans to travel and explore more diverse music genres around the globe.
LockedIn
Locked In was written in 2025 for the Now Music Society percussion quartet concert. It features sounds heard in a factory including machinery, alarms, and sirens. The piece was inspired by Ty’lei’s experience working in a bottle factory and fuses elements of Musique Concrete and minimalism.
Space Dog was written in 2023 for the Dali Quartet. It is based on the experiences of the dog Laika that was sent into space by the Soviet Union. Laika was sent on a one-way trip without a plan to return home and quickly died before overheating from stress and spacecraft malfunctions. The quartet was originally written as four movements but was later reenvisioned as a single movement encapsulating both Laika’s bravery and her grief.
RhapsodyforWindSymphony
Rhapsody for Wind Symphony was composed in the spring of 2026 for the West Chester University Wind Symphony. It features a recurring simple melody that is interjected with ostinato patterns and dense textures.

Wind was written in the spring of 2026. It features violin and piano and takes inspiration from the Ghibli animaton studio Wind describes the tenacious breeze of change in our world.
Couth was written for the West Chester University big band ensemble, The Criterions in 2026. It features dense orchestration, Latin rhythms, conversational phrasing, and solo opportunities.
Tie-dyeMemories
Tie-dye Memories was written in 2023 for alto saxophone and piano. It is hallmarked by a nostalgic melody that is reflected upon and reenvisioned. The piece includes improvisation and soloing.
I would like to thank the West Chester composition faculty and Dr. Silverman for assisting me in my pursuit of music in a way that is coherent with my own styles of interest.
