Local Links Chapter Connects San Antonio to Nationwide Wellness Effort

WestCare Texas had the opportunity to participate in the annual Black Family Wellness Expo in San Antonio on March 15 , a wellness event connected to one of the nation’s largest and oldest volunteer service organizations via the San Antonio Chapter of the Links Incorporated The Links, Incorporated, an international, non-profit corporation established in 1946 has remained committed to enriching, sustaining, and ensuring the culture and economic survival of African Americans and people of African ancestry th President of the San Antonio Chapter of the Links Angela Jolivette hosted the Black Family Wellness Expo in partnership with Texas District 120 State Representative Barbara Gervin-Hawkins to provide vital services such as immunizations, mammograms, financial and mental health resources A strong network of more than 40 community partners and vendors collaborated to make the San Antonio expo a huge success. Organizations including Devine Equality, the San Antonio Food Bank, Big Mama’s Safe House, Krowned Barbershop, 100 Black Men, University Health and WestCare Texas partnered to provide attendees free produce bags, haircuts, and Zumba in addition to the medical resources.

This local initiative by San Antonio Chapter of the Links is part of a larger nationwide effort, with dozens of Links chapters across the country simultaneously hosting similar wellness events. The Black Family Wellness Expo serves as a critical platform for connecting community members with essential healthcare services and preventative measures By bringing together a diverse range of resources in a convenient and accessible location, The San Antonio Links, Incorporated, and their partners are actively working to empower individuals and families to prioritize their health and well-being

The success of this year’s event reinforces the vital role community-based initiatives play in fostering healthier communities and bridging existing health equity gaps.
