From the Head of School

NATHAN WASHER // HEAD OF SCHOOL
GREAT BEGINNINGS
Dear Wichita Collegiate, We are pleased and excited to present this issue of the Connection magazine, which focuses on many of the wonderful things that happened within our community during the first half of this 2019-20 academic year. For me personally, this first semester of my tenure as Head of School has passed by like one of those famous Kansas tornadoes. I have been intentional about getting to know the community through one-on-one meetings with every employee and board member, and through multiple meetings with parents and students. The warm and welcoming community that attracted my wife Mary and me to this community has been reinforced by all the positive support I have encountered through all of those conversations. Something that has stood out as a theme throughout those conversations is the overwhelming feeling that we are one supportive and caring community that treats each other like a family. You will see, throughout the pages of this magazine, lots of stories and highlights of events that reflect that family feeling within our school. In this issue, you will learn a bit about each of our divisions - Conscious Discipline in the Early Childhood, "Windows & Mirrors" in the Lower School, community service in the Middle School, the Good Life Paper in the Upper School, and much more! I am very proud to lead this school, and honored and humbled every day to work with such a talented family of people. Whether you are reading this Connection through the eyes of a student, parent, graduate, faculty member, grandparent, or friend, this is certainly a great time to be a Spartan. Here is to health and happiness in 2020.
