AUDITIONS

Johnny & the Devil’s Box

Join us for a concert performance of the award winning new musical JOHNNY & THE DEVIL’S BOX, written by Franklin local Douglas Waterbury-Tieman. The show made its sold out world premiere run at the Cumberland County Playhouse last fall to enthusiastic audiences calling it, “A godsend, a jamboree jubilee.” (CROSSVILLE CHRONICLE).

Johnny Baker believes he is the best fiddler that’s ever lived, and he aims to prove it. But his boasting attracts the attention of another fiddler- the devil himself- who shows up with a plan for Johnny’s destruction. With fame and fortune tempting his pride at every turn, Johnny must find the strength and wisdom to win a battle of the bows without losing sight of what really matters; family, community, and even a budding romance. It’s a jubilant new musical with one foot in the Georgia mountains, one foot in the Grand Ole Opry, and music that will stir your soul.

JOHNNY & the DEVIL’S BOX is a celebration of love, life and music that the world needs right now!

Featured artists: Douglas Waterbury-Tieman and wife

Annabelle Fox with special guests to be announced soon!

Strength & Conditioning for Middle & High School Wrestlers

This 12-week strength program is designed to guide young athletes through a progressive training protocol that will prepare their bodies for the unique rigors of a wrestling season. The program includes six in-person classes within the 12 weeks that will cover the technique for all of the exercises, ensuring every participant learns skills that will carry over to their workouts outside of the class. Along with the in-person classes, the participants will be provided a daily program of exercises to follow on their own that will allow them to build off of the progress they are making in the strength classes.

Instructor: Dr. Jacob Travis

About the instructor: Sport-specific training is a passion of the program’s instructor, Dr. Jacob Travis, who was a high-school wrestler himself and feels that population has been underserved in terms of specific training and education. As an assistant wrestling coach at Ravenwood High School and physical therapist at a Sports Performance clinic in Nashville, he has a rare combination of knowledge that will serve these young athletes in many ways. His goal is for each athlete to learn the importance of sportspecific training, become comfortable and confident working out on their own, and to get excited about improving their performance on the mat by committing to improving their strength and conditioning over the summer.

The activity fee includes a show T-shirt and scripts. *There is a $25 supply fee that should be paid directly to the instructor at the first class meeting, which covers costumes and props. There is a $25 sibling discount (after first child) if siblings register in the same transaction.

About Disney’s The Jungle Book Kids: The jungle is jumpin’ with a jazzy beat in this play specially adapted from the classic Disney animated film, Disney’s The Jungle Book and features a host of colorful characters and your favorite songs from the movie. Banished by the ferocious tiger, Shere Khan, a human boy named Mowgli and his panther friend, Bagheera, are on the run in the deepest parts of the jungle. On their journey, the two meet a sinister snake named Kaa, a herd of elephants and a giant bear named Baloo, who teaches them the swingin’ musical rhythms of the jungle. After surviving a dangerous encounter with a band of monkeys led by King Louie, Mowgli and Bagheera are forced to run for their lives. When Shere Khan returns, our heroes must rally their fellow animals into battle and restore peace throughout the jungle.

Instructor: Ashley Taft

Performances for both casts will be November 10 – 11 at the College Grove Artsitorium. (NOTE: Classes will not meet during fall break October 10 & 12).

Disney’s The Jungle Book Kids is presented through special arrangement with Music Theatre International (MTI). All authorized performance materials are also supplied by MTI.

Straight to the Stars Auditions – Ghostlight

Straight to the Stars Youth Theatre, WCPR’s children’s theatre program producing non-musical plays starring high school students, is thrilled to announce auditions for our summer 2023 production of Ghostlight by Stephen Gregg. This funny, emotional, and unique play is highly reviewed and offers our high-school aged actors the opportunity to more fully delve into their characters with a smaller cast.

Summary of Ghostlight: When indifferent student Garbiela Nettles is inexplicably admitted to the prestigious Doves Forge Academy, all she wants to do is leave. But before she can get herself expelled, Garbiela starts to hear sounds that no one else hears: ghost echoes from the remnants of a long-ago tragedy in the school’s theatre. As she investigates the sounds (by joining the disastrous play in progress), Garbiela uncovers a story that’s both surprising and surprisingly moving. Theatrically staged using the production’s audience and live sound effects, Ghostlight has hilarious characters, unexpected twists, and a riotous finale. Those auditioning are asked to come prepared with a 1 minute monologue of their choice. Auditionees will also read script sides from the play. Callbacks will be immediately following auditions. A wide variety of roles are available for up to 18 actors.

Those auditioning should refer to website HERE for important pre-audition information and forms.

Rehearsals will be on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays from 5:30 – 7:30 PM, beginning June 19 at the Enrichment Center. The first portion of the first rehearsal will be a parent/cast meeting. Two Performances will be August 4-5 at the Williamson County Performing Arts Center. Once cast, a registration code will be provided to cast members. The activity fee will be $125.

Guest Director: Tyler Worden

Auditions will be held at the Enrichment Center in Franklin on Thursday, June 1 from 5:00 – 7:00 PM Registration for audition timeslot can be done through the website link. For more information, contact Alison.Worden@williamsoncounty-tn.gov

The Star Bright Players present Andrew Lloyd Webber’s School of Rock the Musical

Presented by Image Surgical Arts, the Star Bright Players Spring 2023 production will be Andrew Lloyd Webber’s School of Rock - The Musical and we are excited to collaborate with the Franklin Brentwood Arts Academy to bring this fabulous musical to life! Rock got no reason, rock got no rhyme…You better get me to school on time! Andrew Lloyd Webber’s School of Rock - The Musical is a two-hour, two-act show (plus intermission), based on the hit movie. The tuner follows Dewey Finn, a failed, wannabe rock star who decides to earn an extra bit of cash by posing as a substitute teacher at a prestigious prep school. There he turns a class of straight–A pupils into a guitar-shredding, bass-slapping, mind-blowing rock band. But can he get them to the Battle of the Bands without their parents and the school’s headmistress finding out? (Based on movie rated PG-13.)

Mission Statement:

It is the goal of the Williamson County Community Chorus to engage passions, inspire achievement, deepen connections and broaden community through choral music.

The Williamson County Community Chorus was founded in 2017 under the direction of Dr. Linda Bolding. The chorus grew quickly and at only 2 years old was invited to sing at Carnegie Hall in February 2020. The chorus is open for participation by qualified High School students, adults and seniors who have past experience and a passion for singing. The chorus performs no less than twice a year at the culmination of each session: Fall/Winter (SeptDec) and Spring (Jan-April) and enjoys a break over the summer months. They have performed large scale concerts, singing with an orchestra, and most recently kicked off the Christmas season to an audience of nearly 800. We are delighted for the success of this group and invite residents to audition and to support us in the audience.

The chorus is directed by Karen Mabry Lewis, a veteran choral music educator from the Dallas area who obtained her BM degree with a concentration in Voice from Belmont University and a MM degree from SMU in Music Education and Vocal Performance.

If you are interested in joining the Williamson County Community Chorus or for more information including sponsorship opportunities and audition appointments, please contact Victoria Reed at (615) 786-0186,ext. 2515 or Victoria.Reed@williamsoncounty-tn.gov or visit wcparksandrec.com.

You will need to provide your own snacks and water for hiking outings, and lunch may be an option offered on some sport trips. These outings are weather dependent and if we need to cancel the outing we will notify everyone as soon as possible. Departure and return times vary.
